I've got a really simple Grid inside an ApplicationControlBar:

All I want to do Is make the Grid stretch 100% across the full width of the screen, however the above does not.
I'm using a mx.containers.Grid to layout some data, and the last column is a set of checkboxes. MXML Code snippet:[code]Basically, I want the labels & text values to align however the Grid component sees fit. However, I'd like the checkboxes to be right-aligned. I've tried setting the width of the textValues to 100% and it does nothing. I don't want to use hard-coded pixel values/canvases/etc because it is important that this is easy to change/update.

View 1 RepliesI'm trying to setup a DataGrid that contains a column of combo boxes. The values of the combo boxes are defined by data specific to that row. I cannot get this to work though, I'm asking for a solution to this, either fixing what I have below or a recommendation on a different way.One of the columns of my DataGrid has an object derived from a ComboBox for an ItemEditor. The itemEditor is set like this:

I have an application control bar at the bottom of my Flex application (with attributes width="100%", dock="false", left="0", bottom="0", height="50"). It contains a lot of elements (like buttons and labels). The width of the SWF is the width of the browser.When the user makes the width of the browser window smaller, after a certain point, thecomponents on the application control bar gets "squished": they are forced on top of each other. And so, it becomes confusing and ugly. To ensure that that doesn't happen, I've set the minWidth attribute to a value so that it'll always display the components without them overlapping each other.
But then, a horizontal scrollbar appears and hides the bottom half of the application control bar.I've googled and I found this article: flex verticalscrollpolicy bug (referenced by this SO question: Flex: Prevent scrollbar from covering content when automatically displayed).But that seems to apply only to a fixed size component. My component's width is a percentage. how to have the horizontal scrollbar appear and have it not cover up the application control bar?

The idea is to have a list of items and only allow one to be selected and pre-select one at start.I've got the single button selection working, meaning that when I click on on toggle button, the others are deselected.My problem is to create a way of pre-selecting an element of the data grid or simulate a click on a row and selecting the corresponding toggle button.If I use the datagrid.selectedIndex the result is a selection but the toggle button doesn't get selected.Here is the code exampleIn this example I am using the array value "selected" to define selected button, not my favourite solution but the one that worked first.The array collection:

why I can't get the width of a Sprite when it has components in it.
For example

Does anyone know how to get the width and height in ActionScript for a Flex application running inside the flash player in the web browser.
e.g. In the web browser I can use the tag to embed a Flex application (as a .swf). To the embed tag, I can provide the dimensions. I would like to get these dimensions inside the flex application action script.
I'm currently working with the OLAPDataGrid component and got stuck at a relatively simple task: I want to style the last row of the grid differently from the rest, so my cell item renderer needs to know whether he's rendering the last row with content in the overall grid, including those rows currently not rendered because they are outside the visible grid space. AdvancedGridListData's rowIndex property only gets me the row index of the renderer relative to the range of visible grid rows, i.e. when I scroll down the grid, a data item with an index greater than 0 gets the rpw index = 0.

I am creating a nav in flex that pulls in buttons dynamically from xml. THe problem i am having is setting the button width to the text width. currently the buttons are all the same width and if the text is larger then it just cuts off. I have a class that extends a MovieClip and receives a MovieClip inside it. The movieclip is embedded like this:

and I add it on the Parent constructor like this:

When I add a Bitmap the Parent Item grows to accomodate the child, but this do not happen with SWF's...
Once I've set either the width or percentWidth property on a flex label, is there a way to reset the width to its default (i.e., the width of the text plus padding)? I'm using the label as a renderer. In some cases, I'd like it to automatically size to the text, and in other cases, I'd like it to be a percentage width of its container. Obviously, I could use two separate labels, one for each of the above cases, but I'm curious if it's possible to reset the label to its default behavior.

View 3 RepliesI am a newbie in Flash CS3. How to resize the width of of a movie clip according to the size the size of dynamic text inside it. I did it by creating a text field 'myText' and then converted it to a MovieClip symbol and named the MovieClip as myClip. The text in myText is assigned at run-time and its width changes according to the text.
I did it as follows:-
myClip.myText.selectable = false;
myClip.mouseChildren = false;
myClip.useHandCursor = true;
myClip.buttonMode = true;
myClip.myText.width = myClip.myText.textWidth + 5;
On doing this I find the clickable area changes according to the size of the text field but the text field doesn't appear at all.
In a flex project that I have that is designed to scale 100% to the web window, I have a spark list. And I have a simple itemrenderer that takes the data and displays a name, and a message. Just think of it like a simple instant messenger display. The problem is that for my msg_txt label I want to give it a width thats the width of the parent list thats holding it.I tried turning the horizontalScrollPolicy to off, also tried width="this.parent.parent.width}" (as well as this.parent.width) for the spark label inside the item renderer. and in the label i tried some things like left="0" right="0" maxWidth="{this.width}" but nothing really does the trick.How can I make this label have a max width of the list thats holding it, AND make sure it resizes if the size of the browser changes and the list size changes?heres the list:

I am working on a grid example in flex using advanced grid control. I know we can easily group data by specifying the field name. At the group node level, other than the gorup name I want to be able to show data in the rest of the cells ( calculated data ) and I am looking for some dataRowBound event or similar to be able to hook some data in it.
Example: Grid displaying list of towns grouped by state. At the group level ( for each state) I want to show the total number of towns in each state. Here how can i show the total number in the town column.
I need to create a simple multiplication grid where children will fill the grid. Its an empty grid at the begining, when they start the time start as well.Its a grid of 10 x 10. when they enter the last number, the grid should show what they did wrong and the time they spend. It's an idea of how it could work but if anyone has something that looks like this.

I already use various tools to extract the text and produce a serious of high quality images from the file and the system works well. The last piece of the puzzle is to be able to highlight specific parts of the document to help users with accessibility issues.
However I cannot figure out how to calculate where the specific text is positioned on the page? Notes: The documents uploaded to the system are from 3rd parties, so fonts may be embedded. Meaning that I cannot be sure of the width of specific letters. The text to be highlighted may not be unique, the same text may be repeated How can I calculate the coordinates, height and width of a specific piece of text on a PDF, so that I can then draw a box around it?
I want to make a square grid of fixed side length but varying grid number using code.That is, the number of grids should be specified by the user (say 3*3) and after pressing a button, the stage should be broken into 3*3 grids.I don't want any code, just a method on how to do it. I have tried it by using simple loops but the method just fails for no reason I can figure.

But I would like to ad or vertical scroller (I'm unable to find it here too, maybe I'm blind, just I'm more at the end of my seeking options) or a make a grid thumbnails, that will show 2 columns of thumbs and 5 pictures in each columns, then under the 2 columns i would like to ad a sort of arrow or button that if my gallery have more then 10 pictures it will go on the next thumbnail list. I'm not looking for any extra fading effects or special movements. Just would love to have a single thumbnail grid on side, with option to have lists of thumbnails by 10 if there is more then 10 pictures or so.

I have built a grid using an array and for loops and attach movieclips dynamically to that grid. What I want the moviclips to do is to look in the four spaces either side of itself i.e. up, down,left and right.I have managed to pull the grid coordinates out of the grid which enables me to tell the clip which grid space to look at but have been unable to successfully get the code to work.Here is my code:
