ActionScript 3.0 :: Embedding A SWF Inside A MovieClip - Width = 0

I have a class that extends a MovieClip and receives a MovieClip inside it. The movieclip is embedded like this:
[Embed(source='assets/emi_dir.swf')] protected var MyMovie:Class;
and I add it on the Parent constructor like this:
public function Item(content:DisplayObject) {
super();
var lines:Sprite = new Sprite();
[Code]....
When I add a Bitmap the Parent Item grows to accomodate the child, but this do not happen with SWF's...

I am a newbie in Flash CS3. How to resize the width of of a movie clip according to the size the size of dynamic text inside it. I did it by creating a text field 'myText' and then converted it to a MovieClip symbol and named the MovieClip as myClip. The text in myText is assigned at run-time and its width changes according to the text.
I did it as follows:-
myClip.myText.selectable = false;
myClip.mouseChildren = false;
myClip.useHandCursor = true;
myClip.buttonMode = true;
myClip.myText.width = myClip.myText.textWidth + 5;
On doing this I find the clickable area changes according to the size of the text field but the text field doesn't appear at all.

I have a Movieclip on stage with nested movieclips inside. All referenced at 0,0. None of the child movieclips load any dynamic content, animate or have Masked Layers. It does have an input textfield in one of the child MCs. The parent MC shows 280 px width, while it returns 313 px with a .width trace. There is no code that alters the .width value of the parent MC at run-time. And the ParentMC on stage is not scaled (it is at 100% width/height)

I've tried importing a SWF file into a new fla file but when I test it the embeded swf doesn't do anything. I can't click and drag any of the things that I could if I ran the SWF file on its own.
The embeded file uses some php. is this factor? Is there something I need to doin order to make it run? right now its just a graphic.

I'm starting to localize my flash application.I'm trying to see if there is a way to rollback on default operating system fonts for languages like japanese so I don't have to embed them.So far I didn't find anything online.I'm currently using css to define the font family like :

I created a class called GameBoard that uses a pair offor-loops to populate a 2-dimensional array and display the array'selements in alternating rows of 14 and 13 objects respectively. Thefirst dimension of the array holds the arrays for each row of thegrid. The array for a row holds a set of objects from a class thatextends MovieClip. The objects are arranged with just enough roomfor each one.
The objects are displayed via addChild(). Their coordinatesare set via .x and .y properties. Does anyone know how to get the width and height in ActionScript for a Flex application running inside the flash player in the web browser.
e.g. In the web browser I can use the tag to embed a Flex application (as a .swf). To the embed tag, I can provide the dimensions. I would like to get these dimensions inside the flex application action script.

In a flex project that I have that is designed to scale 100% to the web window, I have a spark list. And I have a simple itemrenderer that takes the data and displays a name, and a message. Just think of it like a simple instant messenger display. The problem is that for my msg_txt label I want to give it a width thats the width of the parent list thats holding it.I tried turning the horizontalScrollPolicy to off, also tried width="this.parent.parent.width}" (as well as this.parent.width) for the spark label inside the item renderer. and in the label i tried some things like left="0" right="0" maxWidth="{this.width}" but nothing really does the trick.How can I make this label have a max width of the list thats holding it, AND make sure it resizes if the size of the browser changes and the list size changes?heres the list:

On my website, I display uploaded PDF files in a flash player for my users to read. I already use various tools to extract the text and produce a serious of high quality images from the file and the system works well. The last piece of the puzzle is to be able to highlight specific parts of the document to help users with accessibility issues.
However I cannot figure out how to calculate where the specific text is positioned on the page? Notes: The documents uploaded to the system are from 3rd parties, so fonts may be embedded. Meaning that I cannot be sure of the width of specific letters. The text to be highlighted may not be unique, the same text may be repeated How can I calculate the coordinates, height and width of a specific piece of text on a PDF, so that I can then draw a box around it?

I've reviewed all the documentation and Google results surrounding this and I think I have everything setup correctly. My problem is that the symbol is not appearing in my app. I have a MovieClip symbol that I've embedded to my Flex Component. I need to create a new Image control for each item from my dataProvider and assign this embedded symbol as the Image's source. I thought it was simple but apparently not.
Here's a stub of the code:

I am having some trouble with some Movieclip, whenever I try detecting the MC's width, it always display zero for some reason. On the 2nd frame, the following function will start loading. After the initial turn, I have another condition statement to check whether it should go to another frame or not. If it's staying in this frame, it will load this function again, and the temp_counter will increases.
tel_phrase_holder is just a dynamic textfield I use to display the width only.

I have the scenario below. I have a movieclip on the stage (root). Inside this movieclip I have a frame with the action below:

I cant get this working with AS3. How is the correct way to do that inside a MovieClip with AS3?

I'm creating a menu bar that is a movieclip and inside the movieclip consists of the buttons.Now the menu bar is twice as WIDE as what is visible on the stage.The only part you can see is the text 'menu' on a bar.Then when the mouse hits the bar, it flies across the screen to the otherside of the bar where the menu buttons are.Now the menu bar does its animation over 20 frames - the last frame being the frame where the menu buttons are now visible.

How can I get a button inside a movieclip link to a frame in another movieclip on the scene? I tried this code:

I have a movieClip button in my library that I dynamically add multiple instances of to the stage using code (so each instance has a unique name). The button has two frames, so it has a basic rollover effect (just changes color. To make the rollover work, I've had to dynamically add an event listener to each new instance of the movieclip, which triggers the rollover function.
I was wondering, instead of adding an event listener each time, can I somehow have an event listener within the movieclip to take care of the rollover? Or will it not make any difference to the number of event listeners, as it will still add a listener with each new instance of the clip?
