View 1 RepliesI trying here to avoid having to bind resources to all my components labels ( ie a button) and find a way to have this automated.
Problem: It corrupts the layout in design mode to bind directly in the mxml label="{resourceManager.getString('myResources', 'submit')}" and makes the design view useless. but when declaring bindings elsewhere, in actionScript or via a bind tag, it is counter productive and prone to many errors and miss.
Proposition: I would like to create my own button that automatically invoke resources to localize a button label. So the author puts "Submit" in the mxml description of my button, and when running it would take the value of the label ie "submit" and use resourceManager.getString('myResources', 'submit').
but I can't find the way to override the set label function, Is it possible if yes how? else how can I go about it?
Maybe I am missing an essential process here that would make the use of resources more elegant, as well as how to override such thing as a button's label.

I'm loading in 5 jpegs from an external file using "loadMovie" and i have 5 corresponding buttons (1-5) to load them with.
I want to change the jpeg the button loads in depending whether a separate navigation button has been pressed -
i.e.
navigation buttons:
-motorbike pics
-car pics
-lorry pics
If a user clicked on "car pics" then the loading buttons 1 to 5 would load "car1.jpg", "car2.jpg" and so on...
similarly if the user clicked on "lorry pics", the same loading buttons 1 to 5 would load "lorry1.jpg" and "lorry2.jpg"

I have an AS3 program that calls a function multiple times. The function must return multiple variables, so I created a class for the function to declare an object containing all of these variables. For example, here's my class:

Let's say the calling program calls the function, which returns the variables into data_set1 (where data_set1 depends on input variables arg1, arg2, arg3) using:
var data_set1:PER = function_name(arg1, arg2, arg3);
The calling program does some stuff, then calls the function again, but returns the variables into a new variable name, data_set2:
var data_set2:PER = function_name(arg4, arg5, arg6);
My intention is that data_set1 and data_set2 are different (e.g. not linked together).
My question is, given that arrays are passed by reference, will data_set1 be modified to agree with data_set2 upon the 2nd function call? Why or why not?

I have a TabNavigator, and each tab is a Module. One of the modules is labelled Units and the full code of the module is posted in this post. There are several problems:
1) Forms are not populated with data from the datagrid selection.
2) Selecting a row and clicking delete gives the very-common error: TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
A trace on the valueObject unit within the selectionChangeHandler function gives NULL. Why? Note: In other modules (other tabs of the TabNavigator), I have DropDownLists populated with units. This means that the valueObject Unit is defined in the other modules. However, valueObjects should be private to modules, and not shared.

View 1 RepliesI have an an array of objects. I populate the datagrid from the array. The nmber of columns in the datagrid is fix i.e.5 and the first column always shows serial number (0,1,2,3,4). I have a link button called 'CLEAR' in the last column of the datagrid.

I have a button that when you roll over it a big window pops up, but then when you click on it, it pops the window up again, now its not a problem but i would like to know if i can disable the click function somehow. so that only the roll over works.
I know you can probably use a movie clip and just tell it with actionscript to load when rolled over, but i don't know how

View 1 RepliesI am new to AS3 and building a simple flash banner. There will be four movie clips consisting of just one word each (in the sample below I'm just using rectangle for now). When moused over each word will show a rectangle with a message in it, like a large tool tip. I have a rudimentary version working fine, see code below.
Question 1: Is there a way to just write on function which will work with all four buttons changing the message, say using variables like AS2?
Question 2: Does the code below look relatively efficient? I'm sure there are better ways to write it.Here's a link to the rudimentary version, http:[url]....
I'm trying to add a simple getURL script to a simple text button-- should be really simple, right? But when I select the instance of the button on the stage it says the current selection cannot have actions applied to it. This, despite the fact that I am able to open an old .fla that has the same type of button and it does have a getURL action applied. What gives?

I have 4 instances of the same button on a single layer in a timeline of the mc 'coverflow_mc' named 'ThatsMe_btn_a' to 'ThatsMe_btn_d' ie same button, same position.. it just changes instance name on 4 keyframes. Why does it call the function fine for button a but not for b,c, or d? There is a stop on each of these frames and I can see from the swf that it is stopping at the correct frames.
