Flex :: Detecting Whe The Image's Source Has Changed?
Jun 3, 2011
I have an image which its source depends on a bindable property of another object.I'd like to know when this source changes, for example, by capturing the bind event or another related event of the Image control.

My ant buildfiles tell mxmlc.jar to recompile target mxml source. However, if the target mxml source file has not changed, either ant or mxmlc is ignoring the file and will not create a new swf. This is an annoyance because I'm editing files imported by the target mxml. I need it to rebuild when those files change. I'm guessing that the mxmlc is creating a cache file somewhere and comparing the target mxml (or maybe just a hash). Is this what is happening? What's the standard work-around? At the moment, I'm editing the target mxml just to cause a file change.

I have two mx:TileList controls that I'm using to allow editing of objects in batch. The first contains a collection of all available data, and the 2nd contains the current batch. Both are bound to ArrayCollections, and using the native drag-n-drop functionality of the TileList control the data is moved from one ArrayCollection to the other when an object is dragged between them.
I need to change the currentState to show & reset the batch manipulation controls when the batch count goes from 0 to n or n to 0 items. Based on the documentation, I would have thought that I should listen to the dragComplete event, but my testing shows that instead of firing after the data has been removed from the source ArrayCollection and added to the destination ArrayCollection, it fires (consistently) between these two actions.

I was wondering if it is possible to capture whenever properties are set/accessed/created on dynamic objects?Basically, among others, I want to create a little quick system which acts as an Array and allows you to set the same value of all items inside of it.For example:
Code:
var dynamicObjArray:DynamicObjectArray = new DynamicObjectArray();
dynamicObjArray.push(mc1, mc2, mc3, mc4, mc5, mc6);

In Flex, how to assign swf as image source at runtime, not embedding it.[Bindable] public var myImg:String;<mx:Image id="intImg" source="{myImg}" width="96%" height="96%" />In my application, I fetch image url dynamically from a web service call, and assign it to "myImg". But until I don't get the response from the web service call, I want to show a loader swf in image control above. I assigned something like:myImg = "assets/AS3.swf";and the path of swf is correct, but it doesn't show up.UPDATE:The code I've shown above works perfectly in a Flex 3 app but the swf does not show up in a Flex 4 app. Is it because Image control has dropped the support for swf in Flex 4 ?

img1.source = _bytes; /*this last bit works*/[code]....

I have a TileList that's loaded with data from Flickr. The tilelist uses an imageRenderer to make a bunch of thumbnails. I'm trying to create a custom drag and drop function, but I want to get the image source of the tilelist mouseEvent target. Here's what the code looks like for the drag handler:

in my mxml file I have images declared like this:
<mx:Image x="0" y="0" source="assets/bigpicture.png" id="picture1"/>
and at some event I do:
picture1.source = "assets/bigpicture2.png";
However this results in flex removing the picture, and when it has loaded it will show it again.
How can I make the mx:image make so that it will continue to show the image until the new image has been loaded?

I am presuming this is because the image hasn't finished reading the png file off the disk yet. What event can I monitor to know when it's width and height will have the right values? The 'Complete' event only seems to work for DOWNLOADED images. The 'Render' event happens EVERY FRAME. The (undocumented?) 'sourceChanged', happens as soon as source changes, and has the same problem! What event do I watch that will let me know when the image's width and height properties will have valid values? Or is there some Synchronous version of I.source='xxx.png', that I don't know about?
P.S. Yes, I know I shouldn't use "C:" in an Air Program. This was just for illustrative purposes, so that you won't suggest I use "Complete", which never even seems to fire when the file indicated by source is local.

So inside my src folder I have my app.mxml file. I have a source directory pointed to my actionscript library.It appears that Flex does not look inside that source directory including an .as file within the master mxml file.
Code:
<mx:Script source="com/domain/something/somethingelse/app.as"/>
I could just have the main app.as file inside the src folder along with my app.mxml file but it would be nice if it could live in the actionscript library.

Is it possible with actionscript to detect if an image is present before loading it?For instance I am using loadMovie to load an external jpeg.
Code:
instanceName.loadMovie("/folder/image.jpg");
Is there any way I can test to see if that image exists using Actionscript, then tell the timeline to do something else if it is not there?

I'm working on an image pre-loader where i get the images i want from their respective url's, and once finished, proceeding to the next page. I have gotten it to load the images as i want/need, through lines of code similar to this:
Code:
var loader:MovieClipLoader = new MovieClipLoader();
this.createEmptyMovieClip("imgcont",1);
loader.loadClip("*url to img goes here*",imgcont);
All i'm looking to find is how many of my images have loaded completely. At first, i thought that getBytesLoaded() and getBytesTotal() would have been able to help me, but it seems that the images brought in through loadClip has no weight on how much has been loaded.
Is there any way of determining how much of those images has been loaded?

I am able to load images into my file by designating their locations in an XML file using AS3. I'd like to be able to determine the width and height of the individual images without having to manually enter each one into the XML file.I think once I reach this point, I'll be able to figure it out on my own:I want to be able to load an image to the stage and trace its width.

Is there a way to detect the _height and _width of a incoming image?
I'm going through a loop, duplicating movie clips with mask, loading an image, and squeezing it down to 100 x 100 for thumbnails. The client wants the thumbnails to be actual proportions but I used so many tweens and setup functions based on the 100 pixel width it's going to be a nightmare.

I'm implementing some kind of combobox control (by extending spark.components.supportClasses.DropDownListBase)
Now, inside this control; I need to know:
If the dataprovider is changed/assigned. (which I can do... the first approach below works); if any item in the dataprovider collection has changed.
I tried 2 methods that did not do the trick...
1ST APPROACH:
2ND APPROACH:
UPDATE: Edited above.. The first approach lets me know if the dataprovider is changed but not if any item is updated in the dataprovider collection. The second approach does not work at all..
