Flex :: Font Relative Sizing & Screen Resolution- Flash Player
Apr 3, 2011
We are building a flash based product (coded in flash builder) and need to ensure that the font size is readable for all standard screen resolutions- we coded fontsize to be a fraction of screen dimensions... still we find that it looks smaller on low resolution and larger on higher resolution
we dont have this problem with other assets like containers/images etc
why this happens? Any thoughts on how we can make it uniform across screen resolutions?

We are building a flex project and would like it to render faster. We do have situations where we reference parent module size properties to size current module containers, as well as current module size properties for a bunch of attributes including font size and element positions and sizes.
Would it help to create temporary variables for
a) pcw=parentcontainer.width, pch= parentcontainer.height
b) ccw=currentcontainer.width, cch=currentcontainer.height
and reference to pcw,pch,ccw and cch while doing positioning. Also given the bulk of the positioning will be done in mxml, will setting these interim variables in initialization function, allow them to be used in mxml such that they will resize as browser size is changed.

Screen class in actionscript provides the latest total screen bounds and available screen bound, but doesn't allow to attach listener to listen for changes on runtime.
is there any way of detecting screen resolution changes on runtime, it is required to size the application whenever screen resolution is changed. e.g. in case when machine display is connected to projector/high resolution monitor and then switched back to normal.

I'm developing a Flex application that is designed for screen resolutions of 1280x1024 and more. In the rare case that a projector is used (which usually has a maximum of 1024x768 pixels) I'd like to scale down the application (currently I get lots of scrollbars and clipping).
I've already experimented with the application's properties scaleX and scaleY as well as stage.scaleMode. However, I couldn't quite figure out a way to
render the application without scaling when the application's width and height are larger than certain values use scaling when the width or height are smaller than certain values

I've set the publish settings to 100% width and 100% height and have then added the 'noScale' function into the first frame of my timeline. Here is an idea of what I'm trying to create:
I have three movieclips that are touching the left side of the Stage and want them to touch the left side of the browser but centre vertically. I can do this by adding the 'Stage.align = LC' command, but not sure if this is the right way to go about it.
The movieclip that is on top contains a logo and I want it to have a fixed size. I called the instance name 'logo_mc'.
The movieclip below 'logo_mc' is called 'container_mc' and is a strip of photographs that I need to run from the left to the right side of the browser no matter what the browser size. I need this movieclip to scale proportionally up and down as they viewer resizes their browser so the first photo is touching the left side of the browser and the last picture is touching the right side (without distorting).
The final movieclip is called 'buttons_mc' and is right below the 'container_mc' clip. This movieclip needs to remain a fixed size.
Obviously when the 'container_mc' clip resizes I need the other movieclips to move up and down to stay the same distance above and below the 'container_clip'.
Example of what I am trying to create: [URL]

I have a Flex 3 application in which embedded fonts were being used. However, due to licensing restrictions, I have to remove the embedded fonts. Not a big problem, but now legal wants to know which device font is being used? Seems like I can only provide them a list of "suggested" fonts from my css file, and not the actual font that will be used at runtime.
[URL]
"If the client's system does not have the first font in the list, Flash Player attempts to find the second, and so on, until it finds a font that matches. If no fonts match, Flash Player makes a best guess to determine which font the client uses."How can I determine what is the font that the Flash Player ultimately ends up using?

I want to put together a flash gallery of photography for my photography business. I am very good at Photoshop design, html, css, javascript but I am a novice with flash. I can use it and use some actionscripting but my knowledge is limited.
I see galleries like this one: [URL]
The images expand and contract perfectly as the browser is resized. I am used to having to size pics for the lowest res screens (I design for 1024 width resos's usually).
What size should I make pictures to work like this... Does flash scale them down / up / either... are there quality issues with letting flash manage the sizing.

The problem that I'm facing is in regards to the width of a sliding menu that I've created. The menu slides based on mouse x position and width of the movie. I would like the menu to fit to the entire screen regardless of the users resolution. I wanted to know if there's a way to detect a users screen width and then adjust the variable for screen width within my actionscript .fla if necessary.

I have made a UI control which contains a bunch of TextFields representing the members of an Array. I draw these un a list like in a combo box's drop down. Currently I hard code the height of the TextFields, iterate through the Array and position the TextFields by adding the hard coded height each time. Simple enough.
But now I would like to put the control in another place where I must use smaller text. So I would like to make the thing general so I can resuse it whenever I want, simply by applying a new TextFormat. My problem is that I want to still be able to position the TextFields accurately regardless of the font size used in the TextFormat. I have tried just creating the TextField, applying the TextFormat, setting the text, and then trying to read the TextField's height, but alas this does not work.
what the best way is to find each TextField's height so that I can build my list?

I am trying to figure out how to detect screen resolution through Flash.For example i want to move a "movieclip" to a specific point if the height of the screen resolution is smaller than 768.
Actionscript:
if(screen.height < 768){
movieclip._y = 200;
}
I think i should use this property but i don't know how to implement it!
trace(System.capabilities.screenResolutionY);

I created a swf file for one my clients using a screen size of 1024px x 768px (4:3 ratio), now my client wants to re-use the video in a bigger screen (TV) that still uses a 4:3 ratio but the screen size is considerably bigger (I do not have the exact size yet). Do I need to recreate the flash file using images that fit the new screen size, or the fact that they both use a 4:3 aspect ratio means that the image quality will not suffer?

I am editing my website, a full flash site bought from Template Monsters and it seem there is a problem with screen resolution. When i publish the fla in flash only, it fits the screen exactly with no scroll bar but when i publish in html the flash content is bigger than screen size and menu bar stays outside the screen in the way that i have to scroll down to see menu contents and tabs.In order to make this site more user friendly I have tried to resize the screen to a smaller but seems to be not a good idea. I have also tried to use different .js and includes in order to solve the problem but still not giving the result i am looking for.

How can I make my flash Webpage displayed same size on any screen resolution of my computer? Whether it is 1024 X 768 or 1280 X 960 screen resolution, the size of Webpage (Flash Webpage) should always be same so that user don't need to use horizantal scroll bar to view all the content.
And secondly, how can I scroll my webpage vertical on moving with my mouse like in the following link: The below link also shows that it's webpage size is always same on any screen resolution.[url]...

I am developing a flash based website using mxml. My monitor's resolution is 1280x768 and is widescreen. The problem is while it appears properly in my screen it doesn't appear properly in others.
-Let scrollbars take care of it : If the screen is 14 inch screen with 800x600 resolution it appears zoomed in. So that's a problem
-Get screen resolution and resize using scaleX and scaleY : The graphic components will get resized but fonts give problem.

A few months ago, I started noticing a small annoyance in Flash and the Flash Player. This small annoyance quickly became a rather large inconvenience, so I recently started googling a solution. Nothing to be found, unfortunately.Here's my problem:When I open a swf file with the standalone Flash Player (any version), the size of the player is set to the size of the last swf file I loaded with the "File - Open" dialog. By the way, when I use the file dialog to open files, the player resizes appropriately.An example:I open a swf with "open with - Flash Player" and the Flash Player sets its size to 320x240 instead of the swf's size, 640x480. Or I open a swf that should be 550x400 and it opens at 320x240. The Flash Player always uses the dimensions of the last file opened with "File - Open."
This problem even affects the Flash CS3 built-in "Test Movie" player.The problem is a little difference within the "test movie" player. It seems to keep whatever the dimensions were the last time you resized the player yourself, and full screen mode doesn't work properly.I tried upgrading, downgrading, editing the

Enable the development of apps that use very large bitmaps. BitmapData objects are no longer limited to a maximum resolution of 16 megapixels (16,777,215 pixels), and maximum bitmap width/height is no longer limited to 8,191 pixels.Does this mean that limit does not exist anymore, or it just has been raised to a greater value (as it used to be in previous versions)?

We have this legacy code of a flash video player that functions well enough but still has some loose ends I need to tighten up. It can do the basic "switch to full screen and back to normal size" stunts, however with one exception.
On the first fresh load of the app, if I switch to full screen mode first, and then click to play the movie, the player would be in full screen, yet the movie itself would remain in it's original size.
//trigger
if (stage.displayState == StageDisplayState.NORMAL) {
stage.addEventListener('fullScreen', procFullScreen);
stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.NO_SCALE;
[Code]....
The VideoDisplay object even returns the expected width/height, but the movie just plays in it's original size. If I switch screen sizes during movie playback, then the movie size will shrink or stretch as it should.

I have Dreamweaver CS5, and used the "Insert FLV" function to generate a flash video player. It creates a /Scripts directory with two files, swfobject_modified.js and expressInstall.swf, and it also creates two .swfs in the directory the .html file is located, FLVPlayer_Progressive.swf and an .swf named after the skin (e.g. Clear_Skin_1.swf).
When I have Dreamweaver generate the html code for all this with a relative path, it works. When I give Dreamweaver an absolute path, it doesn't. You can see an example at www.youngstreetdesign.com/staging/flvtest/test.html.
The top is the relative, the second the absolute. The third is something unrelated.Dreamweaver says "enter relative or absolute path here" in the entry where you give it the video's path, and the documentation says that absolute paths should work, so, I'm at a loss.
