Flex :: Audio - Recording From Microphone From Within The Browser Using Flex Or Processing?
Jul 24, 2009
A groups of friends are working on a little game that would listen to the microphone as part of the interaction. We've tinkered with processing and flex. What we'd like to know is if anyone has succeeded in:
recording from the microphone using a web app
performing an FFT on this microphone data
In the case of flex, according to the docs "Because sound data from a microphone...do not pass through the global SoundMixer object, the SoundMixer.computeSpectrum() method will not return data from those sources."[1]

i have build a small test app in Flash Pro 5.5 overlayed with the AIR 3 sdk.is has just 2 buttons to record and playback audio from the microphone. when i test this on my iPhone 3g - i record myself saying "1-2-3-4-5". but when i playback a half a second or so is missing from the beginning : "3-4-5-".
when i test this on the desktop all is fine is this a result of the iPhone 3g's cpu power or is it a bug or is it my code?

I would like to record sound that is currently played on the local computer (i.e. form winamp or youtube). I saw some codes that use the microphone, but this is undesired. The client machine may not have a microphone hardware or may play the sound on headphones. I think this must be possible but may be not a common task so that's

I am trying to create a Flash application(more like a game) where a user can add sounds to a timeline and then play the resulting "song". That is not really hard to do, and the resulting track can be saved and played within my app, but the problem is that I would like to export the created track as a .wav(or .mp3). I know that recording from a microphone with MicRecorder is possible and then the record can be exported with WaveEncoder, but I didn't find a way to create a custom sound stream from multiple sounds and than export it. Is this possible?

I am currently an English teacher and I am familiar with programming in DOT.Net platform. I am completely new to Flash. I turned to this platform because I thought that would be the best way to prepare interactive computer based exams in English. My real problem is, I don't have the slightest idea as to how I can create a Flash application which records the sound through the microphone and saves it on the local disk.

Let me first establish what I want to do:My user is able to record voicenotes on my website, add tags to said notes for indexing as well as a title. When the note is saved I save the path of the note along with the other info in my DB.Now, I have 2 choices to do the recording, both involve a .swf embedded in my site:
1) I could use Red5 server to stream the audio to my server and save the file and return the path to said file to my app to do the DB saving, seems rather complicated since I would have to convert the audio and move it to the appropriate folder that belongs to the user in a server side Red5 app, which I'm not very aware of how to build.
2) I could simply record the audio and grab its byte array, do a Base64 encoding on it and send it to PHP along with the rest of the data that is necessary (be it by a simple POST or an AJAX call), decode it on the server and make the file with the appropriate extension, audio conversion would also occur here using ffmpeg, this option seems simpler but I do not know how viable it is.

I have a working mic recording script in AS3 which I have been able to successfully use to save .wav files to a server through AMF. These files playback fine in any audio player with no weird effects.
For reference, here is what I am doing to capture the mic's ByteArray: (within a class called AudioRecorder)
public function startRecording():void {
_rawData = new ByteArray();
_microphone.addEventListener(SampleDataEvent.SAMPLE_DATA, _samplesCaptured, false, 0, true);
}

The audio file plays at double speed! I checked recording bitrates and such and am pretty sure those are all correct, and I tried changing the buffer size and whatever other numbers I could think of. Could it be a mono vs stereo thing?

I'm trying to implement a flex app that will be able to record a video from a webcam and then upload it to a server. I've only found tutorials and examples that require a media server running such as Red5, Flash Media Server and Wowza and an open rtmp stream to the server. However, I want to know if it's possible to record a video locally and then submit it to the server with a simple HTTP request. Is there a tutorial somewhere that shows how to do this? I'm really new in flex development

This is not a specific question, instead I'm trying to get an idea of flashes capabilities. I'm building a website that has an Mp3 upload component on it. Serverside I can use the command line audio tool "SOX" for most of my heavy lifting but I'd like to offload some of it onto a flash client. Essentially, client side, needs to be able to do the following: User selects an mp3 file off their harddrive. Render it as a waveform. Display a scaled indication of 30 seconds of the waveform that the user can drag backwards and forwards. This will record a start time. Upload either the full mp3 or just the selected start time plus 30 seconds.
I've never programmed anything in flash before so I'm not really sure what it's capable of.

I want to extend AdvancedDataGrid to show a Waterfall Chart in one of its columns.
To do that I already created custom cell render that shows bars as I need.
Now I have a little challenge: I have to pre-process data to show my Waterfall Chart properly. I have to do it before my grid is show. So, I assume that I have to extends AdvancedDataGrid and overwrite some methods.

I've been working with a 3rd-party multiplayer engine for a game I'm developing. A lot of messages get sent during certain times (loading, etc) to the point where it is possible that multiple messages may be sent per gameloop. To solve this problem, I am attempting to create a delayed message processing scheme. this function is invoked every time a new message is received:
Code:
// called by the Client
public function PushMessage(gameMsg:GameMessage):void
{
messageQueue.push(gameMsg);
}
And at a point in the gameloop, I want to process these messages and clear the message queue. The only problem: there is no assurance that the messageQueue won't be modified during that time. The messages in AS3 are basically interrupts (possibly overlapping), and I can't find any way to temporarily disable event dispatching for a specific EventDispatcher-derived class.
So at this point I can think of only two options. The first is to write a mutex using a Boolean and setTimeout. I do not want to do this for obvious reasons (bad! BAD!). The second is to give up on a delayed processing model.

I am a newbie to this Flash Segment. Though for my recent project i am diving into it. I want to make "A Flash app which will Capture user voice from microphone. It can be appended if paused. After recording done i want to upload the file to the server. so that i can play it back when required." I tried this with java applet but the UI is too bad so i am thinking in respect to flash. What i found till now is for this i have to go for Flash Media Server which is not possible in my project. I want a simple player. You guys rocks that i can easily understand after some wondering in this forum but did not get my solution so thought of posting it.

I'm creating some image uploader in Flex with client-side image processing. Processing consists of two steps:
1. Resizing (solved)
2. Converting resized image (represented by ByteArray in PNG32 with alpha-channel) to gray-scale PNG with bit-depth = 2 and no color-palette. Is there any existing library that is capable of second step? Something like libpng for C++, maybe?Edit:It seem I stumbled upon rarely encountered problem. However my descision was to create an AS3 class that is capable of converting bitmapData to 2bit grayscale PNG. I used standart PNGEncoder and PNG format specification (which is not so good as I expected) as basis.

There may be more than one answer to this, but I'd like to know if there's some technology out there that exists to handle Audio Processing / Playback in realtime, so that Flash can:
Interface with the technology / plugin to generate sounds with no delay or lag. Apply DSP effects (Reverb, Delay, Dynamic Range Compression / Expansion, Distortion, etc). Manipulate DSP parameters in realtime (sweeping an EQ filter's band or Q).
The most important thing of all, would be for this technology to be available to most users, as it would likely be used for Gaming environments or online Audio production, even. So far, Flash has a few ways to manipulate Audio Data, such as the SampleDataEvent, Andre Michelle's Popforge library, chiptune libraries like SiON, and possibly some other unheard of libraries.
I'm not really convinced though, that these methods are the optimal ways to create interactive sounds - sounds that change depending on game conditions, sounds that closely responds to the users actions. Nothing (that I've seen so far) easily allows developers to create or communicate with a DSP effect in order to manipulate the sound in this way, in realtime.
I know that Flash has the ability to communicate over sockets / ports, so perhaps there is an existing library that can communicate with an external plugin, and can be easily distributed to users at the same time.
Is there such an audio solution out there?

I'd like to record audio from a microphone and I'd like the user to be able to add cue points during the recording so when he loads the file afterwards, he can jump easily to a specific position.
I don't really know what file format I should use and how to store the metadata (cue points)
I thought about
encoding a wav/mp3 and stores metadata in a .cue file (easy to do but 2 files to store)storing XMP data in a mp3 file (seems a bit harder but standard metadata embedded in 1 file)flv/f4v with audio only and standard cue points but I'm not sure I can create them directly from the client

When I test my deployed app in a browser the popup window continues to be displayed even after it should be closed. Everything works as expected when debugged in Flash Builder 4.
Following is currently what's happening: the request is sent to my restful web service, which processes the request, (seemingly) the ResultEvent is called which in turn dispatches the profileEvt dynamic event that changes the view state. However, the popup window does not get closed and the applet gets 'stuck.'
Below are the flex applet web service event listeners/handlers:
webService.addEventListener(ResultEvent.RESULT, function(event:ResultEvent):void
{
var rawData:String = String(event.result);
var profileEvt:DynamicEvent = new DynamicEvent("profileSaved", true);
