Apparently there's a problem with the nagivateToUrl function in Flex, namely that it tends to get blocked by the popup blockers in some browsers. A project I've recently joined is using a workaround for Firefox using browser sniffing, but a new feature would be a lot cleaner to implement if I could drop this. whether this problem still exists with current Firefox versions? What about Firefox 3.6?

It seems to be blocked in IE.
Clicking the button sends the text to a backend server where it does a profanity filter.I'm using an event listener to get a response from the back end. If there is no profanity, the swf does a navigateToURL.Unfornetly the url request is blocked by many browsers.When I skip the profanity filter and the navigateToURL is fired in the MouseEvent function then it doesn't get blocked

This 'popup' needs to stay up even when the user interacts with the background.I would use modal, but I need the ability to interact with the back. The itemRenderer consists of Hbox, Vboxes and labels.And I have created a List component.What I want to do is to populate data in my List component and make it visible using my ItemRenderer. Depending on the data that is pulled out from the database I want to show the itemRenderer's correct state. Hence if the record pulled out from the database is a song, I want to display the Song state, if it is a movie, I want to show the Movie state and so on.So depending on the data that's pulled out, I would like to change the current state of itemrenderer.
View 2 RepliesI have a button that animates when you rollover and animates when you roll off. Let's say it is my home button. But I don't know how or what code to have so that my home button stays paused or stopped at the end of my rollover animation when the movie clip page associated with the button is currently displayed. And then if I click on another button like the 'About Us' button to make the 'about us' page load, to have my home button stop being highlighted when the home page is not displayed anymore.

I have this code about navigation using movieclip buttons. I just made the currently selected button disabled when it is in the current page but I just cant figure out on how to maintain it in its hover state (It keeps on returning to its normal state).
Here's the code I've written on the first frame on the main timeline(scene1), I have 4 buttons namely mcButton1, mcButton2, mcButton3, mcButton4 and 4 labeled frames, page1, page2, page3 and page4.:

It's my understanding that view states can be useful when switching the layout of design elements. Such as, a loading page as one state and the main application design in another state. Is this the correct use of them? Additionally, I have a label in State1 and I cannot figure out how to access that label via actionscript. labelID.text = "New Text"; is not working.

Before the panels state is set panelView is null but I presume there must be an IDefferredInstance floating around somewhere that I can use to kick off the creation of the view. I have a web application which contains a data grid. Double clicking on any row of that grid will open a popup (lets call it popup1). Now this popup1 again opens a new popup(lets call it popup2). When I close the popup2, I need pass an Object to popup1. Which is the easiest way to do that?
(PS: While opening popup2 from popup1, I am adding an event listener on Close event of popup2)
I have a parsley popup that can create another popup.The issue comes when I close the root popup, when I open the popup again and click on the child popup, it's actually opening 2 child popups.Any idea why this thing happen?

I have a question concerning pop up blockers. Would I somehow be able to create something in flash, and when clicked the link opens in a new window (_blank) however, as I have it right now, some pop up blockers are preventing the new window to open.So, would I able to implement something into the code to prevent this from happening?

I was recently testing the Amazon MP3 Widget on my site. It was not appearing and I realized it was being blocked by my ad blocker plug-in that prevents cross site flash objects. I want to know if there is a way to tell people that they are missing this content. It seems like the ad blocker simply removes any embed code. What can I do to tell people they might be missing something they actually want to see. I'm hoping there's something similar to the no script tag, but I'm assuming its more than that.
View 1 RepliesIm currently using AS3 code with some javascript integrated into it which allows me to open an image in a popup window which is the same size as the image. The problem im having is that it triggers pop-up blockers and becomes an inconvieience to the audience. Ive seen pages where it doesent trigger the pop-up blocker - and am wondering how this is done.
I asked a friend of mine, he didnt know either - but assumed it might have somthing to do with emulating a pressed CTRL key.
My flex app has a call in it to navigateToURL(new URLRequest(_rURL),'_self');
But it takes about 3-5 or even more seconds before it will leave the current page.
If I omit the '_self' the new window opens immediately and the page loads immediate...but only when I set it to _self I get a few seconds of a delay before it loads...I have no idea why but it is annoying.. I am wondering if anyone might have any idea why this is happening or anything I can do?

View 1 Repliesi'm using the centered pop up window script from: [URL]. i have multiple buttons in my flash movie which open screenshot html pages in external browser windows. the script works fine except when a popup window stays open. the rest of the buttons don't open/replace past that one popup. i tried changing the window name in the onRelease script to screen1, screen2, etc for each button, but that didn't work.

Basically I'm wanting to create a popup which will scroll with the parent container - this is necessary because the parent container is large and if the user's browser window isn't large enough (this will be the case the majority of the time) - they will have to use the scrollbar of the container to scroll down. The problem is that the popup is positioned relative to another component, and it needs to stay by that component.

I have a parent w/ a popup child. When parent loads, I have to call a function within the popup without showing the popup (thus, I load "pupLove" but don't include it in layout)....I then pass this data to the parent. When the user manually clicks another button to open the popup, the same function is called & data passed to the parent. However, I am not able to pass dg.length to the parent. I believe the root problem is that I am loading "pupLove" & thus the parents are getting confused.....I'm guessing if I get rid of "pupLove" I can pass the data correctly but will need to call the child's function at creationComplete of the parent....how do I do that?Here's my parent:

I am trying to get converted to Actionscript 3 from AS2.In old versions of flash, you simply placed the sound in a keyframe inside the button on the over or down state. Worked fine, but not anymore.I guess the sound must be set up with actionscript and a listener.I understand linkage. how to make one sound on the over state and a different one on the down state?

I would imagine this is a common problem, before I embark on writing my own does anyone know of a good flex tri-state checkbox component somewhere I can use :)
