Flex :: Using Trace() Command In Flash Builder 4.5?
Nov 10, 2011
New AS3/Flash Builder user here. I'm debugging an AS3 project using Flash Builder 4.5, and debug version of Flash plug-in in Firefox. I'm using a trace() command, but it's not outputting anything in the Console window of Flash Builder (is that where it's supposed to place stuff?). However, I'm wondering why the trace() command is even needed because the Variables tab in the debug perspective contains all the variable values anyway. Is the trace() command redundant or otherwise useful somehow in this environment, or is it intended for command line debugging, etc. (non-Flash Builder environment).
I've built a simple application in Flex Builder 3 with some trace() calls. It's an "ActionScript Project", no MXML or AIR involved. I don't run the app from within Eclipse, I just open the generated html file with Firefox.
I'm using the Flash Player 10 Debug version. I've correctly set mm.cnf to log trace output, following the official instructions. A flashlog.txt file is generate in the appropriate location.
Despite all that, trace output is not shown in the log file. What am I doing wrong?
(I suspect it's a compiler option, but I can find no such option in the project options in FlexBuilder)
(If I do run the app from Eclipse, by pressing F11, I can see trace output but only inside Eclipse, not in the log file)
i have this flex app (it's a flex project created from flash builder), and it compiles fine when i build it from the IDE.it fails to compile when i do it from command line through mxmlc.i am invoking the mxmlc at the location "flash-builder-installation"sdks"flex-ver"inthe mxml file is test.mxml.i don't have any dependency on any of custom swc file.i am getting the following type errors when i compile it.[code]
i am using Flex builder 4.5 and my problem is this that this code doos not work, when i used trace(event.target)i get following in result in console, deleteme.ApplicationSkin2._ ApplicationSkin_Group1.contentGroup.VGroup5.button1.And if i replace this long line in 'if' statement code works.(deleteme is the project name). Dont you think it should only say button1 instead of this all long line with all hierarchy , if that is the case then how we can shortend it?[code]
I know trace() function can print information, but it must run under flex builder environment or other GUI tools environment.I want to know if there is a statement can replace of trace(),because sometimes I need print information for debug and I don't want to use flex builder too,and I only use mxmlc command to compile as file into swf file. When I click swf file,I want to get trace information. I search the google,it say C:Documents and SettingsAdministratormm.cfg can log trace information,I make following content in this file:ErrorReportingEnable=1TraceOutputFileEnable=1When I use flashplayer_10_sa_debug.exe to run this swf file, then I lookup C:Documents and SettingsAdministratorApplication DataMacromediaFlash PlayerLogsflashlog.txt, but I can't find any information in this file! Why? Where is wrong? My OS is XP.
i was wondering if actionscript does have anything that allow it to trace colors or vectors on the screen, example. i have a moving red rounded shape, so action script will identefy its _x,_y,Wedth, Height,
Does anyone know if there is a way to make the new Package Explorer window in Flash Builder emulate Flex Builders 'Flex navigator' window?
Bottom line is I don't always need to peer into SWC's, and I don't like having a 'default package' automatically created for me. Not sure why the interface wasn't made simpler, allowing access to more power and complexity only if necessary. I want to focus on the code, not on how to navigate and use the bells and whistles in the coding environment.
I just upgraded to Flash Builder 4 (beta 2) from Flex Builder 3 which I have been using since it came out. Problem: All the projects that were in my workspace from Flex Builder 3 did not carry over into Flash Builder 4 (e.g. in the "Flex Navigator" view if FB3). Flash Builder 4 now uses the .FXP format to manage projects, but Flex Builder 3 did not. Is there an easy way to get all my projects back into Flash Builder 4?
Well i have an adobe air which runs vlc-player at background as service. i check that in Windows Task Manager , the service runs when air application launches. here is the code
processArgs.push("--extraintf"); processArgs.push("rc"); //Remote control processArgs.push("--rc-fake-tty"); //Use terminal as output
I want to call 3 commands one by one , the relation between each commands are command should execute one by one in the previous command result. How to Queue Command's? What is the best practice to handle Queue command , my requirement is adding n number of commands and execute them.Main -> Execute c1c1 got the Result - Execute c2c2 got the Result - Execute c3
I have an AIR project that I was working on Flash Builder 4.5 which now I'm trying to import to my updated Flash Builder 4.5.1 and it is prompting me to fix some paths before the import is completed. I'm kinda clueless what I should put in those fields.

I am trying to migrate a project from Flash Builder 4.0 to Flash Builder 4.5. After Flash Builder prompts me to choose my new SDK, I choose 4.5, Then I get the following error:" error "The required skin state 'disabledWithPrompt' is missing".
When setting up a source control repository for a Flex Builder workspace, what do you consider to be worth checking in? Do you exclude the workspace .metadata folder but keep the .project and other project specific files? Keep both? Throw away both? Is there a guideline you use to decide which is worth holding onto or do you do it out of practical experience?
A few days ago, I began to develop a flash with text editor and Flex SDK which is free. But I found Flex SDK doesn't support Alert or Scrollbar. What are the differences between Flex SDK and Flash Professional or Builder? Are there any other limitations of developing flash in command line with Flex SDK?
From a video on AdobeTV, I tried to play with example empWeb (LiveCycle Data Services). In Flex Builder 3 (FB3) everything works fine. When I tried this on Flash Builder 4.0 Beta (FB4) it doesn't work. When I replaced original xmlns declarations (2009, spark, halo)with declarations from FB3 (2006) it works. Could you explain why?I'm using the default SDKs (Flex 3.2 for FB3 and Flex 4.0 for FB4). I investigated this (please see 3 source code examples). Source #1 works OK in FB3 and FB4, Source #2 gives a FB4 compilation error message: [code]
I have a Flex module created in Flash Builder 4 as a swf file. I am trying to load and run in within a Flash application. I can get the module loaded but I can not get the flash application to access any module functions. Here is how I load the module in Flash and the error I get. If I change the module to an application type swf then it loads and runs but now I have two applications on top of each other. I would like the loaded module swf to be able to have access the Flash stage object.
ReferenceError: Error #1069: Property application not found on MyModule__mx_core_FlexModuleFactory and there is no default value. var loader:Loader = new Loader();
I'm interested in learning just enough Flash/Flex to do things that I can't do from HTML and JavaScript alone - play sound files and video, use multiple file upload things, perform cross-domain Ajax requests using the crossdomain.xml file etc. As such, I don't really want to learn (or pay for) the Flex IDE. I'm not much of an IDE guy in any case.
The problem is, most of the tutorials I've found talk about the IDE. I've figured out how to compile .mxml files at the command line using bin/mxmlc - now I just need to learn MXML, ActionScript and the various APIs! What are the best resources for learning these? I'm fine with buying a book, I just don't want to shell out for the API itself.
I'm trying to make my Flex SWF act like a Flash movie SWF so that when the user issues the Play command in the FLash Player it can trigger an event in my Flex SWF file. I'm not sure what event this would hook into or if this is possible with Flex.
how can I strip trace() messages from a flex and flash applications? I write flash and flex applications and i use a lot of trace messages for debugging, but when i product the actual swf i want it to be stripped from any trace messages.
I just got CS5 master suite which includes Flash Builder 4 and Flash CS5 Pro. When I create a new AIR app in CS5 pro it says "AIR 2" but when I create a new AIR project in Flash Builder I do not see anything indicating that it is AIR 2 or 1.5?
Is there a way to tell which AIR runtime it is using?
I am using Flash Builder 4 on my MAC. Flex SDK 4.0. Flash Player 10.1.By executing this code below I only see the trace saying "start". And if I look at the Declaration of the ENTER_FRAME is see the error saying: "Source could not be found for flash.events.Event.Enter_Frame in...."But the playerglobal.swc source is there, and I have tried different SDK versions and FP versions. If this is a Flash Builder problem I can not be the only one having this issue?[code]
I'm setting up a build system for a Flash Builder 4 (Flex 4) based project; and I'm struggling to get a setup that compiles in the IDE the same as it does from the command line on the build server.I come from a C# background; and my expectation is that I'll be able to create a "solution" with a collection of "projects" that I can compile from the IDE, or from the command line on the build server. The best I've managed sofar is 2 separate build "scripts", a custom ant script for the build server, and the default Flash Builder IDE config based on a workspace; but this is making my DRY daemons jump around in fury.
I've been working in Flash BUilder 4.0. I installed Flash Builder 4.5, and switched to the workspace I had used for 4.0. Then we were told to go back to 4.0, and now I can't run or debug. I can build, but then I have to double click on the .html file to run. Right clicking doesn't bring up run or debug, and the run and debug icons are not in my toolbar.
