Javascript :: Resizing Flash In IE8 Is Buggy
Jan 21, 2011
Problem When resizing a Flash object in IE, it's resize handler incorrectly thinks that only the stage width has been updated. Steps for reproducing the bug You roll over and click a Flash button The button makes an ExternalInterface call to JS. JS resizes Flash among other things. In all non-IE browsers, Flash is notified of the dimension change and executes its resize handler flawlessly. In IE8, the resize handler is called but is only its stage width has been updated. It still believes its height is the same. To finally get IE8's Flash to acknowledge its true height, roll your mouse out of the SWF.

I am trying to open a new browser window popup from Flash. I am using:
[Code]....
What is supposed to happen is that the popup should open in a new smaller window whilst the original window keeps displaying the flash file. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Is there a better way to go about this? NOTE: I know that you can call JavaScript functions and house your js in the HTML file, but I cannot edit the HTML file since it is a page from a remote site.

I have a Flash/Flex object (Flashlight-VNC), which I would like to dynamically resize to fit the entire window after pressing a button in the Flex app. This would preferably happen without restarting the Flex app (and therefore the VNC session). I would just use the built-in Flash fullscreen mode, however Adobe's somewhat silly security restrictions prevent keyboard input while in fullscreen mode.
How exactly can I do this? I'm already using SWFObject to embed the SWF, if that helps. I am open to any solution utilizing ActionScript, JavaScript, or both, however I am not all too familiar with ActionScript or Flex, and the AS-based solutions I have found involve extending a "Sprite" object to add resize functionality, which Flashlight-VNC does not seem to use.

I have flash resizing it's container div by using external interface to call the javascript:[code]Now this appears to work fine in every browser except chrome. For some reason after the div is shrunk back down to size, the flash player looks like it's frozen. It's actually not frozen because if you resize the window the flash player starts playing again and you can see it had made progress since it appeared frozen. This only happens in chrome. Does anyone have any idea why something like this might happen?The site so you can check it out yourself(yes I know it's a broken mess in IE, but I'm kind of ignoring that for now):[code]I've tried different window modes but that doesn't help. The problem is when it resizes the div back down because if I comment that line out the flash never appears to freeze. But I need to be able to resize the div...

I've been having a strange problem with Flash 9. This morning I opened my project and at some point, some animations became "corrupted". The tweens I had flicked and didn't work properly. After some investigation, I discovered that changing something within those animations "reset them" correctly and back to fully fonctionnal. Does anyone know why this problem would occur and what I can do to resolve it, or better yet to avoid it?

I'm having huge issues with Flash CS5 11.0.2.489 (even to see the version, I had to open the dialog box several times in order to see the version, WTFFF...). I'm working on Mac OS 10.6.6 64 bits. Sometimes Flash freezes (very often) and I have to reboot. Sometimes it goes down on its own.... And when I'm working on my Macboo pro, it just go down 10 or 20 times a day !!!! Sometimes, when I double click on a movieclip and come back to the scene, there is no movieclip left... They have all disappeared. Have to reboot.... And as this F*** software is a piece of ***, I try to save every 5 minutes, but saving takes a loooong time. And in a day, it can be a matter of 1 hour lost..... On the previous versions, I had no real problem.
Flash CS5 is just a pre-alpha version or what? The bug report site should have so much report that mines are surely not read. So I'm here to beg Adobe to do something quickly. This is just not a software made for production.

My client wants a silly intro page where, onClick, doors to a warehouse open into the warehouse itself (redirect into the website). I created a 1920 x 1174 SWF that does just so. It can be seen here. As you will notice, the backdrop of the warehouse and sky are included in the SWF. Just a minor question: is there a better way to do that? One thought was to crop the sky out of the SWF and make the animation smaller so it could be centered with CSS on the intro page. Then make the background-image the sky.
My big problem is the resizing. My (possibly ignorant) assumption is that if I make the SWF really large, it can be scaled down for different resolutions and the aspect ratio kept. I have tried both of the suggestions at www aleosoft com/flashtutorial_autofit.html and they wildly distort my SWF (which can be seen here). Is this because of my publishing settings?

I have a (flex) app that, on the click of a button, resize a div (in javascript) at the bottom of the page and shows your position in google street view in it.
The things is that if I open the browser at 80% of width, click on the button and then maximize the window, the div won't take 100% of width. I have a function that his being called 'onResize' on the body tag of the page, but it doesn't seems to work. Here is the code :
function handleResize()
{
document.getElementById('streetviewDiv').style.width='100%';
}
...
<body onResize="handleResize()">
How can I achieve the auto-resize of the street view? There must be a specific id for that object so that we could get it by javascript, but I haven't found it.

I'm working on a kind of coverflow layout and I'm using an XML file to house my links and information about those links. in my ActionScript, I'm using getURL to point to the link the user clicks and open the link in a new window using the following script:
getURL(infostruc[current - 1].artLink, "_blank");
I need to have the new window open up to a specific size (1014x714), but I'm not sure how to write the AS for this kind of action since I'm calling the link from an external file.

I need to include a feature on an app I'm building that allows the user to upload an image and manipulate it in various ways including adding text. This is basically a way to design custom printed merchandise as is already found on many websites and will be overlayed on a background image of whatever is being customised e.g. T-Shirt.The basic requirements are: resize, crop and rotate image against background. Overlay and change position/colour/style of text against image. Preview the final design against the background.
I know that flash is possibly the best solution but I was really hoping to avoid it and use Jquery instead. While there is plenty out there for resizing and cropping images with javascript there doesn't seem to be anything that fits my needs.

Firstly, is it possible to speed up the process of compile and run (ctrl+shift+enter), because it's so slow and it's very annoying when you do minor changes and you want to quickly see the effect
Secondly, many times at compile & run command flash player doesn't fire up, because it's running in memory for no reason, and there in no flash movie playing, so it's really nasty that I have to keep killing process to be able to run the movie.

ive tried not using swfobject and static embedding in swfobject, and the flash itself in IE was buggy in both cases (size and position of movie clips and text inside the flash). using dynamic embedding in swfobject fixed this, however, now the size and position of the whole flash object is buggy, not the individual elements inside the flash.funny as it may sound i consider this an improvement,especially since most of the advice i am getting out there is that no matter the case i should be using dynamic embedding with swfobject always.the page consists of three divs,a content div, and a banner and menu div in which there is flash content dynamically embedded to stretch to 100% of the divs width and height,and the divs themselves are programmed to maintain the correct aspect ratio no matter how the window is stretched with the doResize function in the dimentionator.js file,which is called when the window loads and whenever the window is resized.
this works fine in all browsers except IE. in IE, when the window loads, it doesn't resize, it just shows the banner maximized for some reason. you have to actually click and drag the bottom right corner of IE to resize it manually and then see it proportion correctly. and, if you do it to quickly, the flash doesn't have time to catch up and it will be bigger or smaller than it needs to be. finally, if you maximize or minimize the window the size is what it should have been before you pressed the button.so all of those problems could be fixed the divs are resized when the window is idle right? i have tried making a timer to call the doResize function every 5 seconds, and actually increasing and decreeing the size of the divs by one pixel every five seconds, but the flash stayed the same size. i am sure that the functions were actually called, and the divs themselves resized, but the flash stayed the same size.heres the site, check out dimentionator.js (you can see it and all the rest of the stuff i used in this site by going up a directory)

I put this script into my fla before the movie starts. mcName equals a frame label, mcText equals dynamic text shown inside a movieclip, and url is the link on each movieclip. So it's supposed to load a random frame and highlight the name on that frame, and it works 90% percent of the time, but sometimes it seems it doesn't read the array or something because it brings up the first frame and no name is selected, but the names at least show up, which I don't get. Could it be the order I'm calling the events?

when the embedFonts is removed, it works perfectly as expect. Otherwise when an image is clicked, it selects the whole text around it.
testtext.htmlText="Curabitur dolor eros<a href='event:test'><img src='003.jpg'></a>eget odio.</p>";
testtext.embedFonts=true;
did anyone come across this before? is there another way to make an image clickable inside a dynamically loaded xml text?Alternatively can anyone suggest a method to style dynamic textfields instead of using html?I've tried with many different fonts, and many different stylesheets, its still the same.

I am not simply trying to contain things and have the container resize without the contents resizing. I would just use a simple MovieClip for that.. My main focus is on the use of BitmapFill. I'm trying to make a repeating background image for a container; thus far I'm able to draw my BitmapFill sprite to the size I want. (Which is the stage's height) but when the stage is resized, I want to re-size my container but have my containers BitmapFill crop or add more as the window is resized bigger or smaller. Allow me to illustrate what I mean:
I've got a simple rectangle sprite that fills with a bitmap from the library and a simple resize handler function that detects when the window has been resized.what I would like to do is have my rectangle resize to the height of the stage.stageHeight maintaining its bitmap fill, but not resizing the bitmap fill or any children within the sprite.
From what I've read, this is a little tricky because the sprite resizes in relation to what it contains.. or.. something like that.. I really don't know any more.. I saw one example where a person extended the sprite class but I don't know why or how..
in my library there is an image called 'pattern' and my code looks like this:
stage.align = StageAlign.TOP_LEFT;
stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.NO_SCALE;
stage.addEventListener(Event.RESIZE, resizeHandler, false, 0, true);

I'm loading a few pngs/jpgs externally so they can be swapped out occasionally, and the issue I'm running into is when they are shrunk they become fairly choppy. Is there a way to have flash re-render them, or do something to smooth the resizing as opposed to going in and resizing every file manually myself?

I need to execute some javascript string code from flash swf file using actionscript 3.
I read that it could be done by passing the javascript code to the parent html document , using externalinterface.call function. Then I assume it will be faster if I can declare functions in the javascript code in the HTML document in the first use of externalinterface.call funtion ; if flash code calls the javascript code repeatedly. So let me ask you how to do that. For details , any javascript to be loaded is unknown in design time and I can not prepare a javascript file to be loaded.

Is it possible to pass file names from a running Flash application, which only purpose is to enable multiple-file-selection, to a JavaScript application which handles upload of all files to the server?I have examined various Flash upload solutions (like SWFUpload, Uploadify, etc.) and none of them meets my needs. I want an easy to implement solution (like Uploadify) which also lets me specify various parts of the HTTP request.
The reason I need this is because my upload form uses session cookies (for user authentication) and an CSRF token both passed to the server when uploading files.Is it technically possible to pass filenames (+ paths) to a JavaScript application which then handles the upload?

Here's the challenge: I have a Flash movie which will be embedded in a page using an unknown DOM ID that I want to be able to identify/store for callback in a JS function. My ideal user flow would be: User clicks button in Flash. Flash pauses any animations / video / sounds / etc. Flash calls an injected JS function to display a page-covering overlay experience. When user closes overlay experience, a callback method on the Flash object is called. Flash resumes playback.
The problem is, when AS3 uses the ExternalInterface.call("functionName", args...) method, there doesn't seem to be a DOM event triggered, and thus it is impossible to tell which object called a JS function, so having a "registerMe()" function doesn't seem to work. Basically, the injected JS function has no way to determine which DOM object to call, because the ID of the Flash object is unknown.

With all the recent hype about JavaScript and HTML5 replacing Flash, I wanted to know - How would it be possible to protect client-side js code? Of course, it is possible to obfuscate it, but that would only make it a little harder. Also, for games which submit high scores to the server, wouldn't it be incredibly easy to modify those scores before they are sent to the server? I know even Flash files can be decompiled, but they can be obfuscated and flash decompilation is not as easy as modifying data in JS - could be done easily using a plugin such as Firebug. I'd like to know everyone's views on this.
