Javascript :: Create A Progress "bar" Similar To Grooveshark?

how would I go about creating a custom progress bar like the one Grooveshark used to have? If you look at the image below, the progress bar is an image in the shape of a shark and fills in as the page loads.
I think this is very cool and would love to know how it is done. Can this be done programmatically, or is it done in flash? I would really like to do this in JavaScript (jQuery) if it is possible. Where/How do I start?

I have an SWF movie (1375 frames) and created a progress bar (248px wide) with a slider that moves according to the movie progress. I'm doing that next way:Calculating the distance for the slider to be moved each frame (248 / 1375) On each ENTER_FRAME moving the slider for the calculated distance The problem is - the movie ends far before the slider reaches the end of the progress bar.
I'm thinking that the distance (Step 1) is is somehow ends floored by Flash and the actual distance it moves the slider is smaller than required. That's why the movie ends, but the timeline control just passed the 2/3 of its way. My question is - is there any solution for the problem? Or any other way to go, if it's a wrong one?

I have a solid programming base (C, C++ and C#). I was looking for some Flash samples over the Internet and I found a Flash Carousel but my doubt doesn't regard it but something simpler than that.
Consider the following sample: http[url]...., when the user clicks on any of the buttons of this carousel a screen is opened with the corresponding image on it but the user still can see the background because the opened screen has an alpha (close button and a legend). I'd like to know how that is done, I've seen this kind of behavior in many galleries and stuff on the Internet but I don't know how that is called and how to create a similar screen.

Im trying to create a banner similar to the one seen on this website:[URL].. It has numbers to take you through the images, previous/next tabs and it autoplays with a pause button also. All the pictures link to various places around the site, and i cannot find anywhere on how to go about creaating something like this.
Ive been reading and watching tutorials all over and can do the basic tweening and autoplay/loop funtions with timer and timer reset in it, but i dontknow how to go about this one as im very new to this.

I'm trying to create a number of similar variables using a for loop, rather than having to explicitly write out each variable. i am looking to create something similar to the str_replace function (from PHP) that will replace all occurrences of the search string the replacement string from within an larger string. Does anyone have something like that created already (save me the time)?
ie

I am totally new and beginning my journey in actionscript 3. I want to create a progress slider for a control window where I have play pause btns and i am loading external swf on the stage and controlling it. so I want to create a progress slider for that externally loaded swf which slides as the swf proceeds and stops after it finishes. It wll be more efficient if it shows tha timing of proceeding swf.

Is there any "mainstream" library used for this purpose? Commonly spread, well maintained, documented etc.I found these (using flash):
Uploadify - not many releases, latest 12/2010, no documentation (!)
SWFUpload - latest release 03/2010, documentation
fancyupload - looks buggy.
phpfileuploader - looks heavyweight, and looks commercial (?) I cannot read the licence (you can download it but are you allowed to use it forever without paying?) plupload New version of pure javascript (no flash) Valums' ajax upload claims to handle file size limit and progress bar, which is quite suspicious to me: these features require to guess the file size before the upload, which seems impossible in javascript (look also here). Or can it work?

i'm trying to create a game that has a similar concept as Dance Dance Revolution - if shown is a down arrow then press down, if up arrow is shown then press up ...i'm having problems with the "if shown is a ... arrow" part - i managed to get pressed key check working, so if you press the correct key you'll progress but if you press the wrong one the appropriate action will execute.
in frame 1 i have the movieclip that contains the arrow display with the following code:

looks ok to me, but when i tested by changing the if condition for the mc action to if (_global.x = "down") the thing still executed as if _global.x = "up" .

I'm trying to create a "floating" style navigation similar to the link below but WITHOUT and 3D effect. Just text/navigation that is floating and reacting ever so slightly to the xmouse/ymouse and maybe scaling on rollover or something...I don't know where to start...

What is the best way to create a 2D plot, with different points in different coordinates (x/y coordinates) such that they are represented using different shapes on the plot, and whenever we click on one of them, or go with mouse over them, we see a text changing in a small window next to the plot?
If I could do this in HTML, that would be great.If there is a generic Flash component that could do that, simply by loading some text data from URL, that would be IDEAL.
