Jun 28, 2010So, I'm writing an AS3 program that tiles floor tiles. I want the user to be to be able to create their own floor schematic represented by different rectangles. It'll be drag-and-drop. They will lay out their schematic (which is composed of different size rectangular tiles) and drop colors/patterns onto them.
This schematic will then be tiled on a 3D plane to represent what the actual floor would look like.
I've got the 3D part working, drag-and-drop working, etc. What I'm missing is the floor schematic stuff. I've spent a lot of time trying to figure out the best solution, but I can't QUITE get there.
Here are some examples (out of a WHOLE bunch of possible combinations) of how the floor schematics could look:
The different tiles within the schematic are the droppable regions. My problem: How can represent these schematics in XML? Don't worry about tiling, sizing, etc. I've got that all figured out already. I just literally do not know how I can represent a tile schematic in XML and draw it correctly with AS3.

fancyupload - looks buggy.
phpfileuploader - looks heavyweight, and looks commercial (?) I cannot read the licence (you can download it but are you allowed to use it forever without paying?) plupload New version of pure javascript (no flash) Valums' ajax upload claims to handle file size limit and progress bar, which is quite suspicious to me: these features require to guess the file size before the upload, which seems impossible in javascript (look also here). Or can it work?

Mar 6, 2012In Flash I am able to create a font asset and add it to the library:I want to convert this asset into some BitmapData that will contain all of the characters with the correct letter spacing/line height etc.
Is there an inbuilt way of doing this other than manually creating text fields, adding a character, using BitmapData.draw() and then adding the result to a sprite sheet?
If I need to do it manually like above, is there a way to retrieve all of the embedded characters? For example, in the above screenshot I'd expect only a-z, A-Z. Or will I need to note these manually as well?

Open A Flash File And Convert It/export It As .mov?
Jun 4, 2009I have flash as part of the CS3 suite but I never use it, don't know how. However I have a need to convert some flash files to something that can be uploaded to the web, ala YouTube. So naturally I opened a .flv file with Flash and simple went to File->Export hoping (but doubting) it would be that easy. Of course, that did not work. The result was a half second of blank white screen.
Is there a quick and simple way to open a Flash file and convert it/export it as .mov (or some other format for uploading to video sites that don't accept flash files)?

For normal Flash projects, I can create an executable (*.exe) file that includes the Flash codec so that the viewer doesn't need to install Flash beforehand.
Can I create something similar for the SWF file created by InDesign?
I'm using CS5 Design Premium. Intermediate knowledge in InDesign, basic in Flash, will likely need clear steps.

Feb 12, 2012It would appear that FileReference.upload() is the only way in which you can upload a file to the server in Flash and get feedback about its upload state via a PROGRESS callback. All other methods just go off into the ether and come back when the file upload is completed.
Unfortunately, FileReference appears to insist that a user select the file to be uploaded. There doesn't appear to be a mechanism by which to set the file through code. The reason I need this is that I'm allowing the user to upload massive files and am uploading them in chunks, so, I want to just pack a chunk of data into a FileReference (maybe 5 or 10 megs) and send that off and watch it go. Does anyone have any thoughts on whether it's possible to manually load data into a FileReference object? The data property is read-only, sadly.

I've worked passing them to HTML before, but the doc to HTML conversion is messy, ugly and doesn't output valid HTML code, besides, it's a chore to clean the embed CSS style the conversion leaves inside the code. is there a library that allow to use a more portable format? if not, is there a clean way to convert a doc file to valid html code?
