I have been working on a Flash movie that loads variable data from an external XML file and dynamically displays the item names in a menu which may then be clicked to display other dynamically-loaded content that corresponds to the menu item that was clicked. I have now come to a standstill in the project as there is something I'd like to achieve but simply cannot work out how. This is my first attempt at working with XML in Flash and one of my early attempts at using variables. What I'm trying to achieve is; once the user has viewed the item's content, they can simply click "next" and "previous" buttons to display all of the content for the next or previous items in the XML document.
I know it probably sounds simple and I'm sure some of you could achieve this in 5 minutes (!) but I can't get my head around some of the coding. I assume previousSibling and nextSibling would come into play here as well as some sort of functions which access arrays of data for the previous and next items, but I'm just not sure how to correctly put these things to use. Right now the images are listed in an array. is it possible to make an Array of Arrays so that I could load different Arrays for different image galleries? Is this somewhat how it would work? Lets say I were to switch to a section entitled 'landscapes' which we will pretend is the array "var a:Array = new Array();" for now.

View 1 RepliesI am trying to load 2 arrays.the first array is a dynamic navigation menu (linkName). The second array is the corresponding title that is loaded in a dynamic textfield. For example if link1 is clicked I want the dynamic textfield to display title1 from the array if link2 is click display title2 and so on. as of right now the dynamic navigation loads fine I just cant seem to figure out a good way to do this without writing a bunch of if statements. I would like it if the programming assumed the that the length of the title array is always going to be the same length as the link array and it finds the corresponding index.

with this code(below) I am trying to load images into multi-dimensional arrays that will be used in another class... hopefully my code will explain my intent. Anyways, at runtime I'm getting the Error #2044 Unhandled IOErrorEvent: Load Never Completed. I've got this error many times before, and I somehows always fix it, but have never been able to figure out the problem... I've been working on this pretty much all day so my brain may be fried and I'm missing something simple, but regardless, it's quite annoying.

I have a text file with about 1000 rows of data and about 100 values (separated by spaces) in each row. What I need to do is to load the data into Flash into a separate array for each row of data, but am not sure how to get started. I will no doubt have to name each array dynamically as I don't want to hand code 1000 names for arrays!

View 15 RepliesI'm trying to write a function where I can specify any amount of array, and the return value will be an array containing the contents of all of the specified arrays.I've done this, but it seems like a really slow and ugly way of doing it:

A little explanation: Im making a random arranging number Array. So instead of using a loop and assigning 0 to first array element, 1 to second, etc.I need to make it totally random but without repeating any numbers. To do that I made a second Array that will have the same number of children to serve as a reference.Each of them will be an Object with a property "num" , wich will be its actual number, and a property "called" wich defaults to false.Like this:

I've had a problem for awhile that was really odd. After some intense debugging, I realized the problem lied in setting an array equal to another array.[code] When setting one array equal to another, the values aren't copied over, but a reference to that memory is stored. So no matter which variable you change, they are both references to the same memory and thus both will reflect the changes.With other data types, this doesn't happen.I could fix it by looping through t1 and using push() to add each index from t1 into t2, but that seems a little messy.

I'm currently working on a project that contains a lot of data, about 14.000 records. This means an xml file of about 3mb. Now my question is: Should I use the xml file to load all the data at once, or should I use a webservice, that provides the data when I need it? Keep in mind that I'm new to webservices.
