AS3 :: Flash - Add Multiple Buttons To Stage With Eventlistener?

Feb 3, 2010

I've got as far as adding multiple buttons to the stage with AS3 and giving them unique instance names, but now I have a problem. There is no limit on the amount of buttons that could be present, there could be one or one hundred so I can't hard code.

How would I go about creating event listeners for each button? I tried pushing each instance name into an array then looping through but that gave me an error about how the buttons didn't exist, so it can't listen.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Buttons And Eventlistener Work Through Multiple Levels?

Feb 6, 2010

Working on a photography website and I've hit a speed bump. I have 5 separate movie clips for each page.on one section the Portfolio section, I have four buttons one for different areas of the Portfolio.The buttons are located within the movie clip.There's an eventlistener to direct to the appropriate frame within the portfolio movie clip. The problem is when I click on the portfolio button to go back to the main portfolio frame it does nothing. I get a trace statement but no action. I'm assuming that since the movie clip is already loaded its just staying at the same frame.how to get back to frame one of the portfolio movie clip.Here's the code:

frame 1, scene1

ActionScript Code:
//handle events for buttons
about.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, clickSection);
home.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, clickSection);[code]....

Flash :: Using An External Class With Multiple Frames On The Timeline And Multiple Stage Placed Buttons

Sep 21, 2010

I have a problem when making flash applications with more than one frame that has symbols placed on it in that I can't declare all of the event listeners for the objects at the same time and I have found that even if I put them all on the first frame, add the event listeners, then click through to the next frame then the buttons won't work on that frame.

Does anyone have any idea how I could solve this? I did consider myself a fairly competent AS3 programmer until I realised I had no idea how to handle this sort of thing. Solved: I initialised the clips from my external class and then addChild'd and removeChild'd them as I needed to and placed their x and y on addChilding.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Dynamically Create Multiple Buttons On The Stage?

Jul 26, 2009

I want to dynamically create multiple buttons on the stage. The number of buttons I want to load will eventually be retrieved from an XML file.

I've made some progress but I'm a little stuck. I have no problems with the XML at all. I've created a button with rollovers and given it a linkage class name and it can be added as a child to the stage.

The problem lies with creating multiple different buttons, each with unique button listeners.

Flash :: Using Stage.numChildren And Other Stage Methods When Using Multiple Components

Oct 18, 2011

I created a custom textfield component that I need multiples of in a single swf. I also created a non-visual wrapper component to manage them. I am sending info from the textfields to wrapper. I was planning on using the child index to associate the info with the right component. The problem occurs when I have two instances of the textfield component and one of the wrapper on stage and I use stage.numChildren and it returns 1.

ActionScript 3.0 :: EventListener - Select / Deselect Sprite On Stage

Oct 26, 2010

I have the following code:
Code:
btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, select);
function select(evt:MouseEvent):void {
addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, unselect);
} function unselect(evt:MouseEvent):void {
removeEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, unselect);
}
The idea is to be able to select the "btn" sprite and while it is selected you can click anywhere on stage to deselect it. I thought this would work but somehow after a single mouse click it also executes the unselect function. Since I add this function after the mouseclick I do not understand why it is doing this. Is this not the way to do such a thing?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Math.round.trip - Add An Eventlistener To The Stage To Respond To A Resizing

Sep 13, 2010

I am trying to add an eventlistener to the stage to respond to a resizing. When doing so i want to keep the relative position of a movieclip-object constant to the upper and leftmost edges, without changing the alignmode of the stage to top left. This can be achieved as shown below - examplified with two classes and reference to fla implied. The problem is now: When supplying the crucial statements with a Math.round, the movieclip-object gets displaced pixelwise with each new resizing:

myMovieClip.x -= Math.round((deltaX / 2));
myMovieClip.y -= Math.round((deltaY / 2));

Whereas the solution without Math.round is rock stable so it doesn't move at all, as it is not supposed to either! Can anyone figure out why? I know it's a luxury-problem, as my use case is solved. The problem is that i don't know why? Shouldn't the use of Math.round just assure the int-value? Such a small issue could easily spoil the whole app! And i fear that i have misunderstood something fundamental in as3, and suddenly become unpleasantly surprised.

ActionScript 3.0 :: EventListener - Have Multiple Button / Movieclip "sets" That Are Able To Call The Same Function?

Mar 13, 2009

I'm pretty new to AS3 and am getting my feet wet as fast as I can. Currently I have a fairly simple thing I'm trying wherein I will have a button_mc that on ROLL_OVER, it triggers a function that will make another MC move. That part I can do- my question though is how can I have multiple button/movieclip "sets" that are able to call the same function? As an example, I'd have "button1_mc" trigger "shape1_mc", "button2_mc" trigger "shape2_mc", and so on. I want to avoid having to have separate sets of functions for each button/movieclip pair. I hope that makes sense.

Here's where I'm currently at with the first eventListener and corresponding function. You can see how in the function I have a specific MC (shape1_mc) named, which of course I'm trying to avoid, as I will likely have 5-10 similar buton/mc pairs like below. Is there a way to call the movieclip (shape1_mc) in the event handler itself without having to name it in the function?

Flash :: Targeting Multiple Buttons And Get Different Value By Clicking Different Button

Suppose there are 3 buttons: "button01", "button02, "button03".

This is my code:

for (var i:int = 0; i < targetArr.length; i++)

I have a small flash movie with three buttons I would like to link to three different URLs. My code for these is below, however, when I test the movie there is a namespace error (copied below). where i need to make changes so the code understand that "thisButton" should take the user to URL#1 and "thatButton" should take the user to URL#2?
