AS3 :: Flash - Finding Out What Button Was Clicked From Looped Dynamically Added Buttons?

Jan 12, 2012

have a loop that creates buttons. Each button stays on the screen, but scrolls off, meaning there are at any one time upto 4 buttons on the screen. There are a total of 241 buttons.t is to my understanding that using an array will allow me to access these buttons later, and that is great, but I can not find a way for it to tell me exactly which button was clicked.Am I missing something very simple here?

if (canAdd == true)
{
canAdd = false;

ActionScript 3.0 :: Finding The Instance Name Of An Dynamically Added SWF?

Apr 26, 2009

What I have is a navigational button. On click, it adds a MovieClip that contains a SWF.This SWF is a third party news reader/blog. My problem is that when I click on another Navigational button, I can't remove the added SWF (whether I use removeChild() or unload()).The container MC that was added to hold the SWF is removed but the newsreader stays. I assume this is because, that while the newsreader itself works great, it has too many unremoved event handlers, connections.

My main problem is that I can't figure out how to call that added swf by it's name and where on the displaylist it resides. Because I really want to use this newsreader, I've come to accept that I can't remove it. What I'm doing instead is trying to set up a conditional that looks to see if this SWF is already on stage, if so, do nothing but make it visible again(don't re-add the SWF).This is what I have so far, but it's not working (or at least not working without error)

Code:
var blogNewsMC:BlogNewsMC = new BlogNewsMC();
function loadBlog(url:String) {

ActionScript 2.0 :: Buttons To Stay Orange Once Clicked And Only Roll Out Back To Grey When The User Has Clicked On Another Button In The List

Feb 7, 2007

I've got about 6 buttons laid out, one on top of the other in a list format. In their normal state the buttons are grey in colour, when I rollover them, the buttons flash and turn to orange. Now, what I need to happen is this: I want the buttons to stay orange once clicked and only roll out back to grey when the user has clicked on another button in the list. I've been told that the best way to do this is via adding a listener, however I am a little unsure as to how to go about this. I've checked the flash help file and have a basic understanding of how listeners work...but can't really wrap my head around applying it to this situation. Perhaps I will need to have all the buttons as separate broadcasters?

var btn:Array = new Array();
for(var i = 0; i < numberOfButtons; i++) {

would work, and Im simply trying to target a child item within btn[i]

ActionScript 2.0 :: Dynamically Change The Colour Of A Graphic Once A Certain Button Has Been Clicked?

Jul 5, 2004

I'm looking at creating some template designs for presentations and stuff like that. The only problem I have is not being able to get the consumers tastes down to a tee. The thing that is letting me down at the moment is that im not sure how to dynamically chage the colour of a graphic once a certain button has been clicked. e.g "say if i have index as my default page and the colour scheme is different tones of red how would i be able to change this to blue or green once another button has been clicked."

It would be much better to have this layed out as 'AS' rather than having many different (goto frame label and stufflike that. Im trying to phase myself out of tweens and focus more on the AS side of the whole game.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Disable Buttons For 3 Seconds When Another Button Is Clicked?

May 20, 2009

I'll explain the problem I have having as Im sure there are a few solutions, I have a flash website which has four main links, HOME, SERVICES, BLOG, CONTACT.

When the services button is pressed 5 more buttons come in from the right hand side each is slightly delayed to give a stacking effect.

The problem is if the user clicks on the Services button and then quickly presses the another button the service buttons tween in onto the wrong page!

The solution I am thinking is to set a time delay on the services button so when it is pressed the other buttons are delayed for a few seconds to give time for all teh serivecs buttons to tween in.

If so how could I implement it? I have bene trying many things to get it to work, I almost have it, but the delay only works the first time the button is pressed and I cant seem to get the timer to reset!

ActionScript 3.0 :: Stop Looped FLV With Button?

May 29, 2010

I want to create a SWF with 10 embedded FLVs as they are smaller file sizes than embedding the video in the main FLA timeline. I have imported using Import Video>Load external video with playback component.

For each of these FLVs i have created separate Movie Clips and placed each Movie Clip in a scene with forward and back buttons.

I need the FLVs to loop when played so I used this code in frame 1 of the Movie Clip:

Code:
import fl.video.VideoEvent;
SWFfilm01.addEventListener(VideoEvent.COMPLETE, videoFinished);
function videoFinished(event:Event){
SWFfilm01.play();
};

The issue I'm having is that when the Next button is pressed and the playhead goes to the next scene, the sound from the previous scene pauses for a moment then continues to play through.

This is the code that I have at the moment in the first frame of the scene:

Code:
stop();
invis01.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,play_S2);
function play_S2(event:MouseEvent):void {
SoundMixer.stopAll();

ActionScript 3.0 :: Finding Out Which Movie Was Clicked?

Oct 4, 2009

Let's assume that I've got 3 instances of a movie, each labeled team1, team2, team3. In this movie is a BUTTON (named buttonTest) and a TEXTFIELD(teamReply).

I'd like to write a function in the root that the event listener from the button within the movie would call on, but how do I find out 'which button' was pressed dynamically in order to send a line of text back?

For example: if the team2.buttonTest button was CLICKed, how do I pass that information onto the function to tell the function to send the text BACK to that same movie?

ActionScript 2.0 :: [F8] Filters Affect Rollover - Clicked Button To Grow And Stay Larger Than The Other Buttons

Oct 24, 2006

The problem with this version is that i want the clicked button to grow and stay larger than the other buttons. And when you click another button, that button becomes large and the last clicked button gets smaller. I've figured out how to do that, which you will see in a moment, but that is not my problem. Now, with this version I am actually using a proximity formula for the rollovers instead of actual rollOver handlers, and the buttons seem to respond well. Here is the modified version of the nav, using rollOver handlers and growing and shrinking the appropriate buttons:[URL]

As you can see here, this version seems to be working fine as long as you are rolling over the buttons fairly quickly. But, if you put your mouse right on the edge of the button, I think you'll see that the button goes into some sort of pulsing action, larger and smaller. It may stop after a moment or it may not. In an effort to find the problem, i removed each property (alpha,blur,bevel, etc) one at a time and basically figured out that mainly the blur filter is causing the button to act erratically. Without the blur filter, it works just fine.

I'm wondering if anyone else has had this sort of problem and if there is a solution to it (besides getting rid of the blur ). I could go back to using proximity for the rollovers, but i had a hard time keeping the buttons enlarged when you roll away from them. That's why i went back to using onRollOver instead. Sorry for the long and rambling post, but sometimes it's hard to explain certain things in just a few words..

ActionScript 3.0 :: Finding Which Class Instance Was Clicked

Feb 17, 2011

I am importing multiple class instances into my document class. They are buttons that I want to load larger images when clicked. The problem I have is that I don't know how to tell class instance was clicked to load the appropriate larger image.

this is how I am importing the buttons:

ActionScript Code:
package {
public class DocumentClass extends MovieClip {
private var myProj:Content;

[Code]....

I worked with trying to assign myProj.name but I understand in AS3 that isn't the best way to go about this. I also worked with trying to populate an array but I wasn't sure how to get the addEventListener to work when one of the class instances in the array was clicked.

Flash :: MovieClips Don't Keep Their Base Class If Childed To A Movieclip That's Added Dynamically

Dec 19, 2010

I have a holder movieclip, its base class is foo.[code]I put a trace in the constructor of bar so I can tell if it's being loaded properly, and when I drag out foo onto the scene and run the clip, all the little bars within it fire off correctly. However, when I add it to the scene dynamically, such as like this in the Main class:[code]Suddenly, all the little bar movieclips within foo revert to regular old movieclips and don't fire. What's interesting is if you typecast one them as Bar at some point, and their normal class is set to Bar (within the movieclip itself, rather than base class), it works and the constructors all fire, like this:[code]However, if you want multiple different types of Bar clips, and give each a base class of Bar, this won't work. They all spawn as generic movieclips. It DOES work if you go through and typecast them as either Bar1 or Bar2, but that means in practice you would have to try to typecast every child as every top-level object type every time you added the clip to the stage. You also can't have a bunch of movieclips of the same type since Flash doesn't allow it, so each one needs to be a new class, and have that class typecasted when the parent is placed on stage. Kind of defeats the purpose of OOP.

This seems to be a bug in Flash itself, but is there any way to fix it?You can download an example file here with a couple extra traces to show off what's going on: url... It still has its children, they're added and displayed, but their type changes to MovieClip, ignoring the base class.

Can Flash Remember Buttons Clicked For A Game

May 18, 2009

I am making a game for the university I attend.  I am having students choose between college and high school by two buttons to see if they choose the correct answer. Then I want it to display the number correct on a result page I will have them print out for the instructor of their freshman seminar class.Can flash remember if a specific button was clicked?  I have each button with a unique name and could it tell which one was clicked to help me figure out results?

Otherwise, I was wondering if there was a way I could have flash keep track of "points" so I can display the number correct.  Would it be possible if I gave each button a numeric value and somehow added up the numbers from each button to put over a total score of 12 (that's how many questions there are)?  Could it be done in a dynamic text field?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Keep These Buttons Enabled After The Next, Prev Buttons Are Clicked?

Jul 23, 2011

-Alright so I have made a next, and a prev button. That navigate the timeline inside an mc "tabs_mc." This mc ison the the main stage.-When the next and prev buttons are pressed they goto 1 of 4 frame labels on this timeline inside tabs_mc.-When one of these lables is reached an mc "thumbs" appears on the screen / stage.-These mc's "thumbs1, thumbs2, thumbs3, and thumbs4" contain buttons that SHOULD be clickable.-But are not after the prev, and next buttons are press. They are before the next, and prev button are press, but not after.

way this is or even better how to keep these buttons enabled after the next, prev buttons are clicked?I thought of making some sort of boolean to tell the each button that is needs to stay "true" after prev, and next are pressed.But I'm a beginner so I don't know where to start.Heres the next, and prev button code:

Flash :: Graphic Added Over Button Is Blocking MouseEvent?

Oct 29, 2009

I have a couple of buttons that slide up and down, when in the up state I add an X graphic to symbolize a a close button. However the X graphic seems to be blocking my button action.I have an example in the movie I've been working on >> here <<.There are 2 movies here, the big one if you click either blue tab you will see what I'm talking about, X button shows up, but clicking over the X area will not drop the button down. You have to click on blue button area to drop the button back down.Now I've made a smaller test movie adding the X button basically the same way and if you will notice it works fine (will animate to the right even if you click over the X graphic)Here is my code in the Big movie (I hid the tween code so it won't be so long):
