ActionScript 1/2 :: MovieClip Setup - Auto Scrolling Feature

Oct 21, 2009

So I have this movieclip setup so that when you rollover it it activates a scrolling feature where the clip (just text really) moves up and down with the location of your mouse so you don't need to use a scroll bar to scroll. Problem is it continues to scroll even when you're not over the clip.

panel.onRollOver = panelOver;
function panelOver() {
this.onEnterFrame = scrollPanel;
delete this.onRollOver;
} var b = stroke.getBounds(_root);
function scrollPanel() {

ActionScript 3.0 :: Setup A Text To Speech Feature In Flash?

Mar 11, 2012

I'm trying to see if I can set up a text to speech feature in Flash. I found this post, which details how to integrate Google's text to speech functionality with Flash. Seems pretty good, but the post seems to be written for uber-genius AS3 programmers...well not really, but at least those who already know how to stitch these pieces together.

I know a bit about using classes and packages, but can't seem to figure out how all the chunks of code in his post would be stitched together.

Any chance anyone can check this out, and give me a basic rundown of how all these pieces would go together?? So I can try implementing this myself...

PS. Also open to another solution to text to speech in Flash, if you know of an easier one..

Professional :: Auto-save Feature Was Turned Off?

Jan 16, 2012

I started an animation in flash recently and the autosave feature was turned on.  I had a good animation, but decided to play around with it a bit.  After a little while, I decided to call it a night and exited the program making sure NOT to save my work.  Upon opening that file the next time, I come to find out that Flash has autosaved my file while I was playing around.  Now I have a worthless animation, and have to start from scratch.  Is there any way to revert to a previous save, or autosave at this point, or am I about to do a lot of work again?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Auto-complete Feature Doesn't Work Well / When Creating New Class File

Aug 3, 2010

For some reason, in the past few days, the auto complete feature doesn't work well when I'm creating a new class file. I'm trying to write a new class which uses away3D, and even though the auto-complete works well when I start a new AS3 file, it just doesn't work as far as away3D is concerned when I try to create a new AS3 Class file. Other features of the auto-complete don't work as well, for some reason.

ActionScript 1/2 :: Variable Auto-scrolling Text?

Dec 27, 2011

I'm currently trying to add an autoscrolling text box. The text that will display in the box will be variable. I want this text to then scroll left and right to display all the characters.I have added a scrollbar from the components, but i want the text to scroll by itself rather than have to drag the scrollbar manually if the text string is too long. How do i create the variable text entry?How do i make that variable text scroll?What im working on is a very simple game. After the into screen i want a box to ask for the names of two teams. The player types in the variables. The text entered is then displayed in the respective text boxes, IF the text is too long to all fit in the box i want it to autoscroll, if it fits then no scrolling is necessary.

Flash :: Auto-scrolling Text Areas?

Nov 22, 2010

I'm creating a Flash game...blackjack, actually. It uses a back-end made from Java.Anyway, there's a basic chat in the game, where new messages are added to the bottom...pretty much your standard chat window.This is how I do it now:txtArea.verticalScrollPosition = txtArea.maxVerticalScrollPosition;However, that does not always work. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't (oddly enough). I'm looking for a permanent solution. txtArea is the component TextArea (d'uh), and I'm using ActionScript 2.0.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Auto-scrolling The Output Window?

Sep 6, 2011

i'm finding that the output window is increasingly useless for debugging. i tend to spam it with hundreds of tracces per second, as a result of tracing things in per-frame functions. unfortunately the useful part of the output for me is usuall the last message that was written.

this is a problem because the output window does not automatically scroll down. Once there's more than enough messages to fill up the visible portion, i find it loses all usefulness, and scrolling through repetitive data to find the part where i did something, to see what output i got, is slow and tedious

i'm aware that stemming some of the flow of debug messages might be a good idea, but this slows down work as i often have to alter the structure of my code in ways which are otherwise useless, to only get debug messages to fire exactly when needed, as well as often having to place them multiple times.

making the output window automatically scroll would be the most ideal solution. in lieu of that i'm almost considering writing my own debug window with text objects just so i can make it behave usefully, but that seems silly and i'd rather not.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Auto-Scrolling An MP3 Player Listbox?

Dec 23, 2006

I've created an MP3 player based on the now classic code at:http:[url]....One of the shortcomings of the player (that users seem to notice) is that the listbox doesn't scroll to reveal the currently selected item when the player is in "continuous" mode. The selected items disappear from view. I'm wondering if using FListbox.getScrollPosition and FListbox.setScrollPosition could be used to get the listbox menu to update and scroll the current selection to the top of the menu screen. If the listbox data object siimply returns an index number it seems like that number could be used to feed the getScrollPosition function.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash Continuous Auto Scrolling HTML W/o Buttons And Scroll Bar?

Aug 18, 2010

I know ZERO about flash/actionscript and have been tasked with creating a vertical text/html scroller. This would act like a news ticker but would scroll several paragraphs of text with images vertically continuously.

Here is a sample of the data that i would like to scroll vertically:

<image>
some text here
some more text
<image>
more text
more text

This pattern would repeat and the script would continuously scroll the information. I will be pulling that data from XML as HTML but i think i have that part under control. Just cant seem to get a sample of scrolling html/text.

Actionscript 3 :: Setup An Array Of Movieclip Buttons To Navigate Across Timeline?

Mar 12, 2012

I wanted to setup an array of movieclip buttons to navigate across my timeline via labels, this is where it went pear shaped.

Having spent three days reading and attempting most online solutions I couldn't find a method which worked 100% without failing in some way or another.

I've had some joy with the method below having seen a blog entry covering different ways to call frames etc and which highlighted the bugbear below :

clipArray[i].mouseChildren = false; //Hidden bugbear

I've added the full code below so hopefully it may help anyone else who similarly nearly resorted to hari-kari in trying this.

import flash.events.MouseEvent;
import flash.events.Event;
var clipArray:Array = [btn_1,btn_2]; // Movieclip's called btn_1 etc...

[Code]....

This works fine, now however my understanding of whether it is 'good' code or not is an issue, if this could be improved in any way I'd like to know why and how as the problem with learning AS3 from 2 is that often you use code having seen it online without fully grasping the detail.

Adding MovieClip buttons with fluidity and which cancel out from an array became a three day mission when you're learning...

ActionScript 2.0 :: Auto Center MovieClip According To Height / Width Of Stage

Dec 5, 2009

I know normally if I want to center a movie clip I would

mcName._x = Stage.width / 2; or * 0.5;
mcName._y = Stage.height /2; or * 0.5;

my problem is I'm using a component that changes the width and height, but the real problem is that the registration point of the component is the top left. I know I seen code somewhere that gets the width of the movieclip, figures out where the center is then positions it accordingly but I'm not quite sure how it's done.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Making An Auto-play/an Auto-resume?

Jan 2, 2009

I'm making an interactive film. At certain points within the film, the viewer has the ability to select from a few options that will direct them to an external video clip (they are flashback scenes). The main story pauses when the user selects a flashback scene and I'm clear on how to achieve this.

However, my issue is that once the flashback scene ends and the external video closes, I'm not sure how the main story will resume. Is it possible for it to auto-play (resume) in some way? My last resort would be to have the viewer select a play button - this is only because I do not want a break in the narrative and want to limit the amount of clicks the viewer has to make.
