ActionScript 1/2 :: Overlay Display With Parent Disabled?

I am creating a game using flash. When the player looses the game, I need to show a message like "You lost...!!!" as an overlay to the currently displayed view. So when this message is displayed, user should not be able to click the controls (may be button or some movie clips) behind it. How can it be possible?

I have a main movie that contains some combo boxes. Some of them may be disabled.By pressing a button I load another movie using loadMovie. The loaded movie also contains combo boxes.When the button is pressed, the clip that shows the combo boxes is removed from the stage and the loaded movie is displayed. By pressing another button, the loaded movie is unloaded and the clip with the combo boxes is displayed again.Well, once the other movie has been loaded, when I go back to the clip with combo boxes, the disabled combo boxes have a small gray button covering the black down arrow.I have determined that so long as the loaded movie contains combo box in the library, the problem occurrs, even if there is no actual instance of it.The combo boxes that are not disabled are not affected. The combo boxes are disabled by setting "cb_name.enabled=false".If the combo box is enabled, it displays correctly, but if disabled again, it goes wrong again.My project is targeting Flash 8, so it uses AS2.I'm using Flash CS4.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Keeping A Disabled Button Disabled After Navigating Away From The Frame

I'm making a VERY basic Jeopardy game, and I need buttons to be disabled after being clicked on once.

Oh, and I'm working in CS3, but I'm using AS 1&2 because that's what I learned... I have no idea how to use AS 3...

example: frame 1 has btn11 in it. btn11 when clicked takes the person to frame 2. when done with frame 2, they click on return.

the return button (btnReturn1) has the following AS

on (release) {
gotoAndStop ("Round1",1)
btn11.enabled=false;
}

the problem is that it works at first - the button disables when I get back to frame 1, but the next time I click a different button then return to frame 1, the first button I disabled isn't disabled anymore.

my actionscript so that my disabled buttons stay that way no matter how many times I come and go from the frame? or if you have a better way to do it, that'd be great. basically, it's like the jeopardy screen, and after "songs" for 200 is clicked, I don't want it to be clickable again at all.

I use the method addChild() to add a Movie Clip intoa nother one.mc1.addChild(mc2);But once the Movie Clip is added (and the second Movie Clip is higher than the first one) then it's displayed outside the first Movie Clip. Is there a way to prevent to display outside the parent?

I need to access a non-display list top-level (Parent? Ancestor? What's the correct term?) object from a display list object, and I don't know how.

In my code, ResultX is an instance of my custom class Result. Card is a sprite, a visual representation of the ResultX object, defined inside the Result class and attached (or removed) to the stage via a separate function inside the result class as needed.

I want to refer to the correct Result object when the user clicks on the corresponding card to call a function there. In accessing the sprite manually, ResultX.card works fine, but I don't know how to go upwards trough the path - card.parent (or actually target.parent, since it's done via event) just returns Main, of course.

[code]All clips are squared.Ok, on the PlayerPlane, there are little soldiers, which have hotkeys. The effect I'm trying to create is I want to position the GameStage so that the currently selected soldier appears in the center of the GameClicker clip.The GameStage is movable by the player (to scan other areas of the map)by holding the CTRL key, so it's easy to kinda lose track of where your players are.I have tried using localTo Global and globalToLocal techniques, but I think I'm lost on the actual math of getting the GameStage to move the correct distance so that the selected soldier is centered to the GameClicker.[code]

if I add a clip to the stage as a child and remove the parent and set the parent equal to null, does the child get collected and removed from memory? What if the child has an image loaded into it as its child? 

In my application I'm loading a series of png images as overlays that can be tinted for customizing in this app. When I trace my memory, the basic app idles at 64,000 k. The exact second I load those overlay images it goes up to 205,000k. If I remove those clips and "clear" the stage I should go back down to 64,000 k if everything is removed and collected correctly, right? It's not, it's hanging at 215,000 k. Are my images being cached and that is the reason for the memory staying up? If so, how do I prevent that. Or upon removing the parent of the image how can I un-cache the image.

If a user switches between models and loads several different items then the application actually crashes the Flash environment because of too much memory usage. It also does the same to browsers.

I am trying to access a function that is on my document class for my AS3 project, from a nested class. That is, the Document Class calls Class A which then calls Class B. So I am trying to access a function from Class B, I am trying to use MovieClip(parent).function(); but I am getting error 1120. The MovieClip(parent) (fixed to reflect my document class, etc) works when I try it from other classes but not from this nested class.

Flash :: Drag And Drop Application Where Mc Is Dragged Out Of One Parent Mc And Dropped Into Another Parent Mc?

Simple drag and drop application where mc is dragged out of one parent mc and dropped into another parent mc.All works OK until I added 2 text boxes to the mc's -- one is a non-selectable dynamic text box (a label) which is set by the code, the other is selectable input text that the user can amend.

Finger cursor disappears when user hovers over the section of the mc that contains the text fields (even non-selectable text??) When the user trys to drag the mc by inadvertantly click-dragging anywhere within both text areas it causes this error: TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert flash.text::TextField@2374a381 to flash.display. MovieClip (same error appears for both text boxes)

The input text box may confuse the user - how do they sometimes click to drag and sometimes click to amend? I need to create an overlay area within the mc that is click-detected for the drag? Here's the relevant bits of code:

I have a parent swf which loads many child swfs (though only one is displayed at a time). My intention was to use the loaded SWFs document class to retrieve an array of objects to be assigned a tab index, combine this with the parent's own array of objects and apply sequential tab indices to them all. But what happens is actually that the parent's objects are assigned an index, but the external swf is unaffected. In fact, the external swf retains its automatic tab indexing, when I would expect that having set a value for InteractiveObject.tabIndex, automatic tab indexing would be disabled.

I've seen similar tales elsewhere. Most posts I've read are wanting to load an external swf, give it focus and loop through those objects, then close the swf and return to looping through the parent. However I would like loop through all objects as one. including manipulating the focus manager(s), and basically fiddling with every tab-related property I know.

Recently I created a simple flash text card animation with arrows allowing the user to scoll through the different cards. I wanted to go a step further and make an overlay so when the user rolls over it, it would expand showing a variety of buttons for them to click and link off to in different places this is where my problem began. I created to overlay as a movie clip and when a small arrow is rolled over the movie clip overlay_mc plays and expands to reveal the buttons and the rollout function causes it to contract. The buttons however are un-clickable and after some research i discovered this is because the overlay_mc clip acts as a layer over the buttons.Is there anyway I can create an overlay with the buttons remaining active?

I know that CSS component support was disabled in CS3. Is this still true for CS4 (AS3)? I have a set of component skins that I bought real cheap, but I bought it knowing that it was designed for Flex (came with a .fla, .mxml, and .css) but I was hoping there was a simpler way to skin my components than sitting down and replacing each individual part of the component (plus the new skin graphics are named remotely close to their intended usage so I'm kind of clueless what goes where).

My question is how to I temporarily disable a button so it appears highlighted but you cannot click it when you are in that spot.
