ActionScript 1/2 :: Preloader Not Displaying In Simulate Download - White Screen?
Sep 1, 2010
I followed a tutorial on gotoandlearn.com and followed it to a "T," yet cannot troubleshoot this myself. I built a simple preloader in AS2, but when I simulate the download for a Flash website in Adobe Flash CS4, all I see is a white screen, then it continues to the website. I previewed the bandwidth profile and I can see that it's working it's preloading magic; I just can't see the animation.
I looked through numerous forums and I am not using an components that are exported to the first frame -- at least that I know of. Has anyone experienced the same issue?
I'm using Flash CS5 with AS2. However, there's this project I'm working on right now. When I simulate a download, the preloader is somehow skipped. I'm staring at a blank screen for a minute instead of a preloader and then the main menu pops up. You just see the preloader for one single frame.
Now the code for my preloader is really the standard code: Actionscript Code: stop();onEnterFrame = function(){ p = getBytesLoaded()/getBytesTotal(); percent_txt.text = String(Math.round(100*p)) + " %"; if(p == 1){ nextFrame(); delete onEnterFrame; }}
I have some code on frames 2 and 3, but I tried to see what would happen if I left it out, and the same thing occurs regardless of there being code on frames 2 and 3. All I can really tell you that may mean something is the file size is 2.9 MB. Why Flash Player doesn't just display the preloader, especially since I've never encountered this before.
currently I'm having some problems with my preloader.I have an as3 class website with the following code:
public function Website() { addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, PreloaderStart); } private function PreloaderStart(e:Event):void { var bt:int=loaderInfo.bytesTotal;
[code]...
I painted my stage black and when I simply run my flash file it traced "loaded" so everything is loaded well and it builds the UI. But when I simulate by pressing ctrl+ enter twice I get a white screen and after about 10 sec. (my swf is 1mb and it simulates at 100kbs) it displays the preloader instantly at 100% and loads my UI. So my text doesn't change from 0% -> 100% but I just get 100% when everything is loaded.
I've done two Flash animations, and both, when I use the Simulate Download function, show what appears to be a digital artifact in the upper left hand corner. It looks like a series of small squares or rectangles briefly fluttering from left to right. As far as I can tell, this doesn't show up in the actual .swf. Has anyone else seen this? Is it a sign that I've done something wrong, or should I just ignore it?
I want to check to make sure my preloader is working right, so I'm trying to use the Simulate Download function. At any speed, when I start the simulation, it just sits there, and does nothing. No images, no backgound, nothing. Running the program normally does not produce any problems, it's just when I do the simulation. Now, I think it may just be that I have a gigantic file, but I let it sit there for several minutes, and not a single thing happened -- heck, I have the preloader on frame 2, and a trace on frame 1 that just says "test" to see if it's even getting THAT far, and its not.
I'm declaring that there MUST be a bug in importing of XML files to Flash 8 and I will NEVER use it again in this version of Flash. For the third time I have completely re-written the entire code of this movie. And once again, just like the other 2 times, when I run the movie in "Test Movie" all 32 of my text files load and trace perfectly. When I switch to "Simulate Download" a raft of "undefined" text error messages appear when I click on the text field links. There is only one movie running. All variables are declared globally at the beginning of the movie. A preoloader (debugged and verified to be working perfectly) loads all images and XML text and CSS before proceeding. All text is loaded into a single text field dynamically. There is never a problem with undefined images - only text.
So basically when I used to run my code using Flash cs3 there was a button under view that had simulate download would click it and it would simulate download. Now am using flash builder and had to install some kind of flash debugger player or smth like that and can't find that button now...
One last time and then I abandon this idea of importing XML files forever
I have attached a sample .fla file plus folders with the other files in the Variables not found only on "simulate download" post if you want to try running it.
There are 42 XML text files and 42 buttons on stage. In 'Test Movie' all 42 external XML files load perfectly every time - switch to 'Simulate Download' and keep clicking. It won't take long to "break it" and an 'undefined' will appear. But if you keep clicking, the same text will be defined on the next time around - so this isn't simply a case of the array not being created properly.
This is the frame in the preloader that creates the array that holds the XML files - it loops until they are all loaded - the counter is set and incremented in the other preloader frames:
Code: function loadXML(loaded) { if (loaded) { //loops back to load all text
[Code].....
'textNum' will never fail to show the number clicked when 'undefined' appears - but 'textForStage' which is the actual text in the array will show 'undefined' in the output window.
I have several flv files displaying just fine on my website. All I am am trying to do is replace an enormous .flv file with a smaller file of the same movie. The new smaller file is just 25 MB, compressed with a bitrate of 1000kbps. The test page that contains the smaller file previews just fine of course in Dreamweaver, but after uploading the clip, the html page, the .swf files (in the same directory) and the Scripts folder to my host's ftp server, the browser shows me that dreaded white box on my test page for a full seven minutes until the file loads up completely. Then it plays through beautifully with no buffering. On the other pages of my site, the videos all show up without such a wait, even the enormous 179 mb flv!
I have a WP 3.0.2 site. When I try to embed a swf file I have uploaded, all I get to show up, in either a post or a page, is a white area the size of the height & width paramaters. In order to play the flash video, I need to right click and select "play" from the menu so watch the movie.
I am trying to figure out what I am doing wrong or why there are not play, pause stop, controls showing up and why the video preview image does not show up either
I am pulling my hair out over this one.surprised
NOTE; The WP SWFObject Plug-ins do not help with this. I have tried many of them to no avail.
I've a strange problem. My project is an SWF that load an external SWF trought loader. My intention is that until external swf desn't fully loaded, his reproduction don't have to start.
I have a project where I have a main project which loads external .swfs, and those external .swfs in turn load more external .swfs. In my main project, everything works perfectly when I preview using simulate download, but once the .swf is published it doesn't work properly. I'm assuming is has something to do with my main site Preloader, that's why I posted here. I'm pasting the code here and attaching the latest size report.
I tryed to do this several times, and it didn't worked. The main problem is that if I test simulate the movie (56Kb) the preloader doesn't work. First it loads the entire file, then it loads the preloader which is not needed then, and the 2nd scene after that.
I found a tutorial online to do a Image Slideshow. [URL]. But, I can not get anything to work. I am new to this and unfortunately do not have time to do any formal training right now. Probably when this project is done. When I "test movie" I just get a white screen w/ nothing on it. I should be getting a box 500x500 w/ a box that is 400x400 for my frame. I just finished step 3, and I do not get my frame box like a should.
Here is what my .xml document says: <slideshow width="400" height="400" speed="5"> <image url="images/1.jpg" /> <image url="images/2.jpg" /> <image url="images/3.jpg" /> .....
And here is the action script. var myShowXML = new XML(); myShowXML.ingoreWhite = true; myShowXML.load("slideshow.xml"); myShowXML.onLoad = function() { [Code] .....
Should bring up a login when you go to that site. However in Chrome It seems to be loading something and then I just get a blank white screen. Sometimes it loads but if you then hit refresh it will bring you to a blank white screen instead of reloading. Also interestingly if you are staring at the white screen, if you double click, click drag click around alot on the page it will come up kind of like its there but not being displayed. this problem only displayed in Chrome -- IE, Firefox, safarii etc. Perhaps my HTML is bad? I can't believe that because when I use the raw-HTML output from a publish in CS5 It is still giving me this behavior? Also others have had this problem with my site so it isn't just my browser/computer combo.
I have a slideshow that is set up to run on an LCD screen. The problem is the slideshow turns to a white screen when left running overnight. I would like the slideshow to continuously play without having to do a browser refresh each day. I am thinking there is some build up of memory that is causing the problem. I have a loop to continually check my xml file to see if anything has been updated.
I am working on a website right now and when I go to the html version of it, all it does is just sit there. A blank white screen for maybe a minute and hwen it finally loads the preloader only comes up for a half a second.
I just started working on a preloader screen that includes a preloader mask over a logo and a percentage dynamic text. I can get either or to work but not both at the same time. I notice that if I remove stop(); I can get the percentage to work but not the preloader image. With the stop(); embedded the image preloader works but the percentage doesn't.
I tried to create this preloader and test it but it seems not to work. I saw this tutorial, i tried to do it but unfortunately it doesn't work for me. I want to do it the easiest way possible. just : a loading bar ( white line) a background bar ( a blu background bigger line ) a AS ( which i am not able) i sent the file in attachments please look at the AS inside the symbol, an tell me where i'm wrong
have just built a website in Dreamweaver CS4 which has a different Flash banner on each page with a fade in/out text. My problem is that in Firefox the whole screen flashes white for a second when moving from page to page. It seems to work fine in IE. The link is [URL]
All my scripts are being loaded non-blocking, all are before except for one in but I tested removing it and the white flash is still happening on page loads. All my stylesheets are using link rel in the head. I'm out of ideas.
I was looking at making a site similar to this [URL]..The way the white frame scales into whatever the screen res is with no distortion and the center movie I have code to allow that to stay centered, but not sure how you restrict it from overlaying the frame thats on top of that.
Basically I was just seeing if anyone was able to replicate this exact movie, with out the graphics, and I can build the rest. If you need code that I have sourced already that is fine. I can send some of that.
I've installed a swf banner on my site but only get either a white box that's the same dimensions as the swf should be or thisContent on this page requires a newer version of Adobe Flash Player.
I have the Netbook version of Ubuntu Maverick Meerkat and installed Google Chrome stable. I installed the latest version of Adobe Flash. Here is the behavior:1. YouTube videos appear as a white screen when embedded on the page in Chrome. I hear sound.2 The video is normal when I switch to full-screen mode.3. HTML5 videos display normally in Chrome4. Firefox displays YouTube videos without any problem.5. Ubuntu Lucid 10.4, with the same software components, displays YouTube video in Chrome without problems.Any thoughts on correcting this odd problem?
