I have some variables created on the main timeline and a mc called options which will be where those variables can be manipulated. A way I've tried to this is by creating a first array(array1) and populating it will all the variable names found on the main timeline, and another array(array2) containing the values of the variables the user has changed(which are displayed on some dynamic text fields). To make these changes, an "apply" button is pressed which will set the values found in array2 to the variables in array1.[code]How would you do this so that var1, var2... are updated properly according to the values found in array2?And because array2 contains strings(read from dynamic textfields), how do you deal with that since var1 and var2 are numbers?

I want to identify specific strings in a text box from user input to add to a score variable, like so -

The example given adds 1 to the score, but if a user adds a space then a second word the text box views it as a whole and not individual words, resulting in no values added to the score variable.The problem lies with the whole text box being viewed as one entire string. Instead, I want to split it up so word1 will add 1 to the score, word2 will add 1 to the score, etc.
I have Flex 4 DataGrid, what I would like to do is when an cell has been edited, I would then like to walk through the values of that column and preform math on the values, e.g., I want to total up certain values.
1) How do I reference individual values of a specific column so that I may set them.
2) How do I then set those values or should I create a new column array and pop it in place of that column.
I have piece of ActionScript code which is supposed to evaluate a string of HTML and break it up into individual pieces. So a string like <p>Hi</p><span>Hi</span><a href="index.php">Hi</a> would be translated into:

I've gotten as far as getting a listbox with a list of articles to display the articles in a dynamic text box, only i can only get it to work if i use one huge external text file that contains all the articles. what i want is to have each item on the list open up its own external text file, i.e. for each item on the list, there exists a separate text file. The code works fine, but I am getting unexpected results; the array seems to be shared across multiple instances of the same class? I've coded an example to highlight what is happening:

keep all objects/arrays separate across multiple instances of the class.
I'm using the .unshift method therefore the newest values go into [0] and the rest are pushed down.
What is a good method to remove a value from an array once it has passed a certain length? For example i only want my array to hold 5 values.
Also, is there a method for clearing the entire array, ie removing all values? Or will i have to manually change all the values with a loop?

There is a bird, and you control its upwards movement with a key. It has thrust, gravity, it works fine. The problem is I have a bunch of icicles that come at the bird that he is supposed to avoid. I tried this first with math random to use as an x coordinate and than move across the screen, but the icicles had the same x-coordinates sometimes. I tried does not equal(!=) but that doesn't work. I made an array and each number that came out of the array I assigned a different variable. This works fine. I put this variable into the x-coordinate such as mc.x=((n)*60)+480. I did this for five different icicles. All their differnt variables have a different value, and I put them into the same function for each individual video clip, but they still don't go to the right coordinate. basically extracting the value from the "category" tag. This is based on the XML Slideshow gallery tutorial on Kirupa. There doesn't seem t be anything wrong with my XML file as all the images load up as it should. The values of the category tag is either A, B, C or D. I traced (category[p]) and got the correct value tagged with the image in XML to show up in Output, but I can't seem to use that in an if statement like

Ex:

(Assuming I don't know the value of box) How would I get the value of "box" out so I could search for the value "color" as if it were a variable? I need to convert a value to a variable name is what i'm getting at... I think.
I've got an xml file that contains some data (which will be created by an external file later on in the project) and i want to be able to check the data in that XML file against a variable stored in flash.
If the value in the XML is equal to or greater than the value in the variable i want to jump to a different frame. If the xml value is less that the variable value i want it to stop and tell the user a message. i've included my code below. I just cant get it to work. Regardless of if the value in the XML file is higer or lower than the variable in flash, it always continues to the final frame instead of stopping accordingly.

I want to insert input data from Flash into a database through a PHP file but although I seem to be able to create new records in the db through this script, no actual data (in this case the value of a variable called "nombre") is recorded. What am I doing wrong? Here is the AS3 script:
