ActionScript 3.0 :: Setting Individual Timers To Sprites In An Array?

Jun 21, 2009

What I have:

Code:

var glideShootingTimer:Timer = new Timer (500);
glideShootingTimer.start();
glideShootingTimer.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, glideShoot);

[code]....

What it does:Every half second create a torpedo underneath every "glide" sprite on the stage.What is wrong:Every "glide" fires at the same time as the others.What I need:A way to individually time the firing. A way to make it fire in independent half second intervals, not all at once.

Actionscript 3 :: Android - Attach Mouse Event Listeners To The Stage Or To Individual Sprites?

Aug 16, 2011

In AS3 on Android is it bad from a performance perspective to attach mouse event listeners to individual sprites rather than to the stage? I am writing an app for an Android phone using AS3 in Flash Builder. The app has multiple screens that respond to user touch. The screens are arranged in a hierarchy and show list data so that when you click on an item in a list you are presented with a new screen with a new sub list on it.

I have been using an event listener to detect mouse / touch input and based on something I read that indicated that performance is much better if you keep the number of objects you are listening to to a minimum I have attached the mouse listeners from each screen to the stage object.

This all works fine but I am finding that as I move between screens (and they get popped or pushed onto the dislay stack) I have to keep track of alot of adding and removing listeners to the stage object. If I don't then windows higher up the hierarchy than the current screen keep receiving mouse events.

If I used listeners attached to sprites in each window then when the window was removed from the display even though it is kept in memory (ready to be popped back when a child window is closed) it won't receive any mouse events....

Performance doesn't seem to be impacted using listeners directly on sprites when using my HTC phone to test with, however I obviously don't know what it will be like on other phones. Does anyone have any experience either way or a view on the best approach?

1) How do I reference individual values of a specific column so that I may set them.
2) How do I then set those values or should I create a new column array and pop it in place of that column.

Flex :: Setting Properites Of Individual Columns In Grid Mxml Tag?

Feb 26, 2010

Is it possible to control the properties of 'advancedgridcolumns' in 'advanceddatagrid' mxml tag. For e.g. suppose the grid data provider has 3 different fields. Out of these 3 fields, one field is 'to_be_decided'. This field should not be displayed initially. Only the remaining 2 columns should be displayed (visible true) and the third column (one with data field as 'to_be_decided', visible flag will be false here ) should be hidden. It will be visible when some event like a button click or something is fired.

We can do this in action script coding by accessing individual columns of grid and taking appropriate actions. But will it be possible to do so in mxml? Is there some default property in grid that can be used here ?In mxml I can not access them individually in the grid (under tag) and hence I can not set the visible attributes individually for each of them. To add them one by one in 'columns' tags I would be required to know the data field in array collection and that I dont know. Only data field known is 'to_be_decided', rest two fields will vary time to time. Therefore even if I addd this one gridcolumn in 'columns' tag what about the other two?

Something like this :

<mx:columns>
<mx:AdvancedDataGridColumns dataField='to_be_decided' visible=false>

<!-- How to add other 2 columns here ? -->

</mx:columns>

ActionScript 2.0 :: Setting Frame Rates For Individual Layers In Flash?

Jul 18, 2007

Is there a way where I can compile or build different frame rates into the various layers I create using an action script?? I.e. If there are say six layers running in a particular player, each layer should be running at a different frame rate, independent of each other

The problem am facing is am playing multiple media content in multiple layers (masked, so that it appears as if all the layers are playing in the same level) and each media content played in different layers needs to be played at a different frame rate to get a good visual effect!

ActionScript 3.0 :: Using Array To Deploy Series Of Timers?

Jun 1, 2011

I'm building a page that uses an array to deploy a series of timers that do a variety of things. The problem is at any point the user needs to be able to navigate away from the page and when they do they get a timer tick error. To stop this, I have been trying to write a function that stops all the timers which I can do when I write all the timers out the long way, but I'm failing when trying to stop the timers created with the array. I'm getting the following error:
ReferenceError: Error #1069: Property 3 not found on flash.utils.Timer and there is no default value.

Here is the code:
Code:
var timerRepeats:Number = 1;
var currentTimerLength:Array = [1500, 4500, 500, 1500, 1500];
var i:Number = 0;
var timerCount:Number = 0;
var totalTimers:Number = 3;
[Code] .....

I assume that this relates to my attempt to use the variable to identify each of the various timers and stop them (apparently flash is not actually creating an instance name for each of the timers like it would for a movieclip).

ActionScript 3.0 :: Duplicate Sprites From Array?

I'm having one of those brain cramp days..I'm trying to add a number of items (sprites) from an array to the stage. There are 5 items in the array, and I want to randomly pick one of them, add it to the stage, and do this 100 times.My end result only has 5 items. ActionScript Code:
private var sizes:Array = new Array(15,10,5,20,30);

A way I've tried to this is by creating a first array(array1) and populating it will all the variable names found on the main timeline, and another array(array2) containing the values of the variables the user has changed(which are displayed on some dynamic text fields). To make these changes, an "apply" button is pressed which will set the values found in array2 to the variables in array1.[code]How would you do this so that var1, var2... are updated properly according to the values found in array2?And because array2 contains strings(read from dynamic textfields), how do you deal with that since var1 and var2 are numbers?
