ActionScript 2.0 :: Create An Array Object As A Member Of A Movieclip?
Jun 22, 2007
I'm having trouble wrapping my head around creating an array as a data member of a movieclip, i.e. dynamically adding it to that movieclip depending on data brought in at runtime.
Would I have to create an array seperately first and then somehow assign it to a new (typeless) data member of the movieclip?
I'm trying to set up a menu. Because this menu can have a varying number of entries, I'm generating it instead of hard-coding it. The Menu object contains an Array of MenuEntry objects, and each MenuEntry has a framework.Button object which contains the text and box that actually gets drawn to the screen. I can add a MouseEvent.Click event to the Button, but not the MenuEntry. If I do it that way, though, I'm unable to access the data in the MenuEntry object that contains the button, so I don't know which MenuEntry was clicked.
The only solution I can think of involves checking the mouse position against the position of each MenuEntry, depending on the number of Menu Entries. This does not seem like the right way to do it, though, as it is not scalable. I tried having the MenuEntry class extend the Button class, so theoretically, the MenuEntry itself could dispatch mouse click events, but that didn't work.
I want to have an array, where each value is a function, where each function also has a set of arguments.
What is the correct syntax for setting a value of an array as a function?
Lastly, how do I pass arguments into the array's value?
Code: var funcA = new Function(a:Number, b:Number){return a + b}; var funcB = new Function(a:Number, b:Number){return a - b}; var funcC = new Function(a:Number, b:Number){return a * b};
If my class has declared a private var _iDontGetDefined:EnormousObject; but never creates anything to be stored there, does this impact performance or use a significant amount of memory?
My project downloads an array from a MySQL server that has URLs for pictures in it. Part of my script then downloads these pictures and splices the array (removing the URL and replacing it with the bitmap). Now i need to use those bitmaps on the stage but i need two instances of the same bitmap at the same time, and it seems like flash is having a problem with this.
How do i create two instances of the same array bitmap?
Still trying to get the hang of AS3 here. I basically have 4 MovieClips on my scene and a collection of MovieClips in the library. I want to be able to select 4 from the library at random, and display them on the stage. They will end up being clickable as its a kind of quiz where they click on the objects and the score is recorded. For now I need to get the hang of loading them at random. I also want to be able to make sure there are no duplicate buttons loaded to the stage. So far I have one movie exported to AS and displayed across the stage:
I want to create an array of object so that I can store the _level I want to load image at specified level and and to keep track of levels in an array so that when any new image will be loaded I can get location of previously loaded image and place the new image before the last image
I'm trying to create object and insert them in an array, for moving them across the screen. I'm trying to use the attachMovie for this task:
attachMovie("MyObject",arrayVal[counter],1); the problem is that the second parameter must come in "" like attachMovie("MyObject","arrayVal[counter]",1);
So, as you can see, i'm not able to tell which number comes on the "counter" variable
arrayVal[0] arrayVal[1] ...
and i'm not able to use it latter:
arrayVal[0]._x++; ...
How is this usually done? (i'm a as3 developer, so i'm stuck here)
var new_array:Array=new Array(5,4,5,6);for each (var number:Number in new_array){ var but.number]:box=new box(); // here i don't know how to declare but.x=50; but.y=50; addChild(but); but.x+=50; }
In my actionscript program, I draw a polygon using the methods : this.graphics.moveTo() and this.graphics.lineTo(), and in the update function of the polygon model I change it a bit, and then draw it all over again. Eventually, every call to the update() function draws the updated polygon and I can see it changes.
On some point of the program, I want to be able to use this polygon as a movieclip, so I can attach a mask to it - so as the polygon drawn over and over again, I could see a nice background in the form of that polygon, fills it inside.
Problem is - I do not know how to take this array of points I have, which is my polygon representation, and turn it into a movieclip ( if possible at all... )
I am creating a platform game through the use of arrays, and i am inserting the platforms in a variable called blockHolder. I have successfully inserted generated blocks, but i want to insert my own movieclip, so i replaced this code:
Before:
Code: else if (lvlArray[i] == 1) {//making a new block var newBlock2:Block = new Block ;
[Code]....
And it gives the error: Implit coercion of a value of type class to an unrelated type flash etc.
I am currently trying to create a piece of code that will retrieve values from a 2D array and use them as x and y values to position instances of a MovieClip called mcMain. The code for the array will look something like this...
Code: var lvlMain:Array = new Array(); lvlMain.push(new Array()); var xAxis:Array = new Array([150,400,200,300,100]);
[Code]....
how to create a piece of code that would retrieve the x and y coordinates listed in the arrays and use them to create instances of mcMain. So going from the code above it would create the first instance at x=150 and y=100, second instance........fifth instance at x=100 and y=500.
I worked in flash cs3. Have "People.swf"- library MovieClips, they have export for actionscript and first frame. Names classes "Head1"..."Head2" and so on. How i make create object "Head1" in other flash project?
googled it and hardly found any answer(seriously)need a quick solution for this:- How to create object from class that extends MovieClipSay i have a class name MC
I am using this method to create a slider to control frames in a movie clip.
[Code]...
The slider works well when I'm in the scene that contains the slider. When I go to a scene that does not include the slider, I get the following output error. TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. How can I stop the stage.add.EventListener when I navigate to other scenes that don't include the slider. This is my first as3 project. The project functions as it should but I don't know if the output error will cause problems later.
Is it possible to, if you have an array of class names like ActionScript Code: var city01names:Array = ["pic_01", "pic_02", "pic_03" ...] make a new array which would read these names, instantiate them, and push them into a new array containing the instances of all these pictures, which I could then use for a slideshow?
I am trying to build an MXML application with Flash Builder 4.5, and I am integrating an API that requires the root of a display object to be a MovieClip. Personally I think this is bad design but I have to go with it. The root object always seems to end up as the stage, because of course I have to add the object to the stage for it to be added to the display list. Is there some way that I can either change the stage type in an MXML application to a MovieClip or is there some way to force a MovieClip wrapper to become the root of a display object?
I am curious if this is an okay implementation of the Array.filter() method.
[Code]...
I was not able to figure out an implementation of the callback function for the filter() method, where the callback was outside of the getGallery() function. I wonder if there is a way to get the isGallery function outside of the getGallery scope?
I have been trying for an hour to clone an array, It seems that nobody has a true reference on how to do it. Two arrays - movieClipArray 1 and movieClipArray2 I want to duplicate movieClipArray1 entirely so that when I addChild(movieClipArray2[0]), it doesn't take away from movieClipArray1 or reference it in any way.
I am trying to use the following code to convert an object read in from a ByteArray to an Array and store it:
var data:Object = ba.readObject(); var invObjects:Array = data as Array;
In debugging, I find that 'data' is indeed populated with the correct data and takes up memory and is in an Array friendly format. However, invObjects is NULL. How does merely saying 'data as Array' make the holding variable suddenly null?
I am trying grab all the member variables in AS3, and then foreach one i would like to process it in various ways. I would need the name and then if it is a collection of some type I would like to loop through that collection as well. I am attempting to essentially serialize in a somewhat custom fashion.
my question is, is there a way for you to do a sample .FLA file of what you talked about so I can then adjust that to what I need because I really don't know much action scripting and don't know how to implement the code in this case. I've done some intricate Flash websites like: [url], but simply because I used a sample tutorial and adjusted it to my needs.
