ActionScript 2.0 :: Flash Library Won't Function

Jan 12, 2010

I have an AS2 project where the content is pulled in dynamically via XML and is displayed in a multiline dynamic text field with HTML turned on. In one page I have text and a few links in it as well. Every once in a while (not with every page) the text with "shift" when I roll over the text link. This happens on pages where I have another image (which is also a link) being pulled from the library and not externally.On another page, the linking image from the Flash library won't function. I've been staring at the code for days and cannot figure out why this is happening.

ActionScript 3.0 :: How To Interact With Interchangeable Function In Library

Aug 21, 2011

I have written a library. This library has a function that has an argument being a function.
Actionscript Code:
//(its static)class MyClass {
function foo(method:Function):void;}

I have created over 30 functions that are acceptable as an argument to that function. But they raise the file size by 6kb alone! So I've found that most people won't use more than an average 6 functions in a program, so why use all that extra space? I am trying to find a way to have all of these functions available in their own 'namespace' so that compiler only puts in the functions that are referenced specifically. I also want a way that I can still force all of them to be compiled in (like a manifest).

Below, is how these functions are currently setup:
Actionscript Code:
class MyClass {
function foo (method:Function):Array;}class Methods {
function bar1 (param1, param2):void;
function bar2 (param1, param2):void;
function bar3 (param1, param2):void;
function bar4 (param1, param2):void;  etc...}

I really just want personal preference input here. If you were using a library that was built this way, how would you want to interact with these interchangeable functions?

Options:

1. Package Level Functions: Make them all package level functions. You would import one at a time.
Actionscript Code:
package com.net.methods {
function bar1 (param1, param2):void;
}package com.net.methods {
[Code] .....

To cover the manifest problem, I could create a class that imports all of the functions, then all you have to do is reference that class in any class.
Actionscript Code:
package {
import com.net.methods.bar1
import com.net.methods.bar2
import com.net.methods.bar3
import com.net.methods.bar4

2. Grouped by Functionality: Another idea is to group the function by commonality.
Actionscript Code:
class Xbased {
function bar1 (param1, param2):void;
function bar2 (param1, param2):void;
function bar3 (param1, param2):void;
[Code] .....

3. One Class, One Function
Lastly, I guess you could make a separate class for each function. Maybe this would give me greater flexibility in the end but that is unclear.
Actionscript Code:
class bar1 {
function execute (param1, param2):void;
}class bar2 {
function execute (param1, param2):void;
[Code] .....

ActionScript 3.0 :: Function To Load Library Images?

Jul 2, 2011

Not supposed to send the linkage class as a string in the function call.

I can load an image in from the library with code by

1) creating a new object of the linkage class,

2) creating a new bitmap object using the new object, then

3) sticking it into a Sprite, but when I try to make it into a function it doesn't work.

ActionScript Code:
//linkage name, width, height, string for .name property
container.addChild( crtLibImg("PNGlinkageName",100,50,"myPNGname") );
function crtLibImg(thisPng,w,h,mName)

ActionScript 3.0 :: Assigning Parameters Instance And Library Item In Function?

Mar 4, 2009

Basically looking for a way to get the instance created when I use this function I've made, it seems to me "libItem" will be a new instance and I would like to re-assign that back to the item passed into the function so I can access the instance later.

Here is the function I created to create library on the stage...
Code:
function objectPlacer( libItem, instance:Class ):void {
libItem = new instance( );
addChild( libItem );
}

So here is how I call the function
Code:
// Function( var name, library item class name, pos x, pos y )
objectPlacer( i_ranks, txt_Ranking );

My problem is, I try to access "i_ranks" later with the following code...
Code:
i_ranks.x = 100;

And I get the error:
TypeError: Error #1010: A term is undefined and has no properties.
"i_ranks" is defined as a class member.
Also, if you know - what should types should I be assigning the parameters instance and libItem in the function?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Load() Function From The Sound Library Splitting Mp3 Files To Too Many Packets?

Oct 16, 2011

I paid someone to write a Flash application, he did what I asked him, but there is one problematic aspect that he doesn't know how to approach:The application consists of many small mp3 files that have to be preloaded in the beginning. The problem is that is takes FOREVER for these files to load. I changed the server to a VPS and nothing changed.The programmer uses the load() function from the sound library to load the mp3 filesI installed an HTTP packet sniffer and found out that every file is being split to many small packets, 1.3Kb in size each. So for example a 76Kb mp3 file is loaded in over 60 requests!

Professional :: Use A Shared Library - Recompile The Library Folder When Do The Smallest Changes To A Component?

Jul 20, 2010

I am working in two different applications, one to be compiled for desktop use (AIR) and one to be compiled for the web. They are part of the same project and use the same visual components, but they are completely different apps. When a visual component is changed in one application then it should also change in the other one. Is this a good situation to use a shared library fla? I am new to the concept of shared libraries and I am considering the options.

On one had I would not have to update 2 applications everytime I change something, on the other, I would always have to recompile the library folder when I do the smallest changes to a component.

Actionscript 3 :: Library For Interactive Path Drawing (or Any Other Library For The Equations)

Oct 31, 2011

I am making a flash app where I want to have a user defined viewport like the stage in the flash IDE which the user can use to define objects that have a starting postition somerwhere off or on the stage and an ending position either or on or off the stage with the object then tweening between the two points. My question is this: I want the user to be able to define a curved path for the object to tween along. Is there a library of code that I can use to define curved paths for the app?

Ideally I would like something similar to the functionality available in Flash, so a bezier curve sort of path that is subdivided into handles that can be dragged to define the path of the tween. If there isn't an existing library, then do you know of the functions that I would need to define (mathematical equations related to drawing curves etc)?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Referencing A Library In A Library?

Jul 29, 2011

As one would expect, Classes within my RSL can access the classes and methods of the embedded swcs. In other words, classes in my library can for instance call import org.alivepdf.Print and then call AlivePDF's Print.print() method. But it there any way for my project to also use those third-party classes and methods, by "tunnelling through" my RSL??? Even though my project is using my RSL, when I try to type out org.alivepdf.Print it cannot be found.(Obviously I can make a manager class in the library to "pass through" specific commands to the embedded swcs; I'm looking for something a little more generic and all-encompassing here).

Actionscript 3 :: Library Symbol Extend Another Library Symbol / Assuming Each Are Linked To Class?

Dec 9, 2010

Library symbol "Card" is linked to class "Card" which extends "MovieClip". Library symbol "Card" contains a card background image.Library symbol "Ace" is linked to class "Ace", which extends class "Card". Library symbol "Ace" contains a TextField with a big letter "A".So we have Ace extends Card which extends MovieClip. Ace therefore extends MovieClip, but does not DIRECTLY extend MovieClip.When I drop an instance of Ace on the stage and compile the clip, all that shows up is the big letter A. However, I expected the background image from Card to be included, since Ace extends Card, and the Card symbol contains the background.It seems like Flash ignores symbol content unless it belongs to the top-level class being instantiated.I think it's LAME that one symbol can't extend another. The IDE could easily draw Card as a non-editable background while I'm editing Ace which extends it, and it should instantiate Card's content and then Ace's content when an Ace is instantiated.

Actionscript 3 :: Flash Run A Function Only If Instance Within Function Is Defined

Mar 3, 2011

I have a situation where, upon loading my swf, I add an event listener to the stage to listen for keyboard commands. One of them is to listen for the spacebar, and if it is pressed, it should play a movie. The problem is, that movie is not loaded until later on, depending other user interactions, therefore, until it is loaded, the reference to it would be undefined.

But if I wait and add the listener for key commands only when the movie is loaded, then I can't utilize the listener for other keyboard commands, like RIGHT or LEFT, which are the buttons which get you to the movie in the first place. Is there a way to add a conditional or something to prevent that code from being executed if the video is not defined yet? Here's my code:

Flash :: Access Top Level Function When Class Has A Function Of The Same Name

Dec 16, 2011

I have a class Debug with a function called trace inside it which puts a TextField on the stage and outputs the text. Now I am trying to get the Debug.trace() function to do a "normal" debug trace as well from within side itself. of course this causes a recursive loop. I am trying to figure out how I can access the top level separately. I tried using namespaces such as AS3::trace but to no luck.

I know a solution is to rename my function to stop the conflict, but I would like that to be a last resort. It is being used in quite alot of places throughout my entire code so replacing it everywhere is going to be a ballache.

Actionscript 3 :: Flash CS5.5 Library & Flash Builder 4.5 Workflow

Sep 24, 2011

Because of intricate animations for an iOS project, I'm kinda forced to use Flash CS5.5 IDE, but I'm trying to use Flash Builder 4.5.1 to code library movieClips. For the most part this is working; I'm making movieClips in the library, giving them class names I then edit in FB 4.5. My rationale is for iOS it all has to be one big ass file anyway. I don't really want to make everything a swc and embed in Flash Builder, just want to make movieClips and edit their code in FB.But, say I have made a ball in the Flash IDE. In the Library I give it a class name of 'Ball' that extends MovieClip. When I go back to Flash Builder in my main class I use [code]The code works and the ball is placed from library onto stage, however there is the "?" next to the Ball instantiation suggesting the type cannot be found or is not a compile time constant. I don't really want to make a custom class for Ball - although I'm pretty sure if I did and imported a custom Ball class it would find it and the '?' would go away, but is there not a way to force Flash Builder 'see' the Flash IDE library objects/classes?
