ActionScript 2.0 :: Flash8 - Pause Game As Start Point To Terminate Code
Oct 17, 2009
I'm designing a platformer game, in which the code is all held within the character MC. I want to pause the game using something like 'delete this.onEnterFrame' as a start point to terminate code. The code layout within the character is like so:
onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
...
this.onEnterFrame = function(){ //within clip event
...
if(btnon == 1){ // when button pressed(on stage)) global value of 1 is true
delete this.onEnterFrame;
}...}}
Due to the fact its within a clip event structure, it doesn't pause it, instead it slows everything down. Would I have to construct all my code in a frame layer or can I still use an MC to terminate this?

I have frames with bits of audio. I'd like to click on a button (movie clip) and have audio from 2 separate frames play. Trouble is, they play on top of each other. What I need is a pause between playing the first frame and then the other.
Basically it looks like this:
Code:
gotoAndPlay(3);
// NEED TO PAUSE HERE ABOUT 750ms
gotoAndPlay(4);

Brand new to CS4 - downloaded last week, installed update, went through Adobe online tv tutorials.I took an wmv file and added it into the Media Encoder and exported it to f4v file. I went to CS4, created a new Flash Action Script 3, imported video, with one of the skins for client playback control. I saved the file. I published using "pause at start". In IE7, which is what the stats on the website are showing 40% of my visitors use, the Flash movie starts immediately. How do I get the Flash movie to appear on the screen with the first frame showing and the instrumentation there, but paused so that the client controls the start?

- how can I start the player from the position "pause" (so without playing a song when I open the flash) (and so with the button in position "play")
- I would like to add the button "previous track".. what code I need to create into the "mp3player.as"? (I think the button is the same of next but with "negative image" and with different names..)
- for a button like "stop" what I have to do? (a button with a simple action like: stop(); or stopAllSounds(); ?) (I've tried but without success...)

I have attached the file for reference but would like to know how to start the mc 1936 when the file is published and the swf is first opened. I can get this to do this HOWEVER I cannot get the 1936 to then respond correctly as per the actionscript IE close when 1938 is clicked? 1936 keeps opening and I cannot get this to ONLY do this ONCE when first opened.

I have a set of MP3s that I am playing randomly (SoundA = random number in this script below). I created a play, pause, and stop button for the MP3. The play and stop buttons work perfectly, but I am having problems with the pause button... It does stop the MP3 when clicked, but when play is then clicked after pause, it restarts the whole MP3 rather than starting where the MP3 was paused.

My idea is for a movieclip to flip horizontally when reaching an _x point, which is 225 (it should be half the stage). Now, I know about _root.movie_clip._xscale, and I've tried it, but it didn't work. Here's my code:
onClipEvent(load){
if(_root.poke._x=-225){
_root.poke._xscale=-100;
[Code].....
And I'll upload the .fla for you, so you can see what the problem is.

After I publish my entire project to SWF it plays as it should without a hitch, but just about the midway point of the cartoon the animations simply freeze on me. What's even more confusing is that the audio of the movie, all set to play as Stream, do NOT stop and continue playing in the proper order -- and that includes audio from subsequent scenes. So basically once my cartoon reaches X I can hear my movie playing normally but everything else is frozen.
-I'm working in Flash8 and using FlashPlayer9
-There are no actionscript commands in the scene where the animations stop. The only actionscript commands in the entire project are a Preloader/Start button at the beginning and a Stop command at the very end.
-When I publish only the troublesome scene it plays fine.
-This project is actually a very long movie, clocking in at just under 24 minutes. There are a total of 42 scenes in it and all principle animations take place directly on stage, not broken down into graphic numbers or movie clips.

I tried to create simple animation from this Kirupa's tutorial My aim is to make a circle run from left to right and when it is almost to the edge it will move back to the origin point and it will loop only 3 times. So I came up with totally baby script like this:
[Code]...
But the MC is not move back to the original place. Sorry for not even finish the script for stop looping. Only tweak on play loop it make me very confused. My knowledge is quite in entry level but I eager to learn. Could you let me know what is wrong with the script?

I have a full flash site that loads a lot of external flash files. They are not all needed though for the main interaction. So let's say there's five links from the homepage, each one sending to a different page. Out of those five, there's two that are essential and that are pre-loaded, and three that will be loaded only if the user clicks on them. Now, I thought that, while the user is browsing one of the two essential pages, why not preload the other pages in the cache? This way he won't have to wait later on.
So my config is:
1 - preload pages 1 and 2
2 - Load pages 3, 4, 5 in the case user is browsing page 1 or 2
3 - If user clicks on page 3, 4 or 5, load this page
4 - If user clicks on 3, 4, or 5, preload the clicked page and stop the preloading of the two others
5 - If user clicks on another non-essential page, resume loading of the page
Ok, steps 1, 2 and 3 are obvious and easy. But I'm stuck for steps 4 and 5. If I begin preloading the pages 3 4 and 5, how can I "pause" two of them to let the page clicked by the user use as much bandwidth as possible? And if the user clicks another page, and it has been loaded up to 70%, or 30% or whatever, how will I resume the downloading from there? I am confused. I hope my question is clear enough. Basically, if someone can point me to a way to stop a preloader, meaning, stop it from downloading an external file, and resume it later from where it stopped, I think I could work up the rest.

Im trying to make a FLV cue point pause the FLV and also pause the entire timelines inside the swf. Then everything would continue playing when the user would click a "continue" button.
Basically I have a flash presentation that load an external FLV and a bunch of graphics that go with the video. At one point I need everything to pause so a small flash game can come in and the user can play it and then when they are ready to move on they can click "continue" and the FLV would continue where it left off along with the rest of the timeline.

I've been working on a video-centric project that requires a very specifically designed video player, which I've built from scratch -- no skin. Things were going great until I actually uploaded the video and SWF to my server and tried it out. Here's the issue: The video, which is an F4V that's been imported into Flash as an external asset -- I'm not using NetStream, nor am I using a Flash media server -- starts loading almost immediately. But when you use the custom-built scrubber bar to jump ahead in the video, it freezes up until, I presume, the video has loaded to that point, at which time the video starts again. If you open the SWF and let it sit for a few minutes, this isn't an issue -- you can jump back and forth as much as you want.
So clearly the problem here is that the video is loading from the beginning and the user can only get to a certain frame when that frame has already been loaded. But it must be possible to start loading from a specified point, right? After all, the video doesn't load all together and become available only when the whole thing is done. It starts loading at 0:00 and continues progressively. I just want to change where it starts loading by telling it not only to play at that point but to start loading at that point, too.

I'm making a game, and I'm at the point where I want to add pause and resume functionality. The main onEnterFrame is no problem, but I have a bunch of objects that have their own onEnterFrame functions. These objects also have different functions, for example one for moving, the other for exploding. So each object is in a different state. I can't use hasEventListener, because it only checks for the type of event and not which function is part of the event. Is there a way I can check which functions the ENTER_FRAME event has? If a particular object doesn't have a particular function in its ENTER_FRAME event, I don't want to put it back when I resume the game. I suppose I could have a global variable that tells each function whether or not it's paused, but that feels messy since I would need an if in every single function I have.

I'm working on a flash gaming site, BeardedGames.com. I just recently implemented a "Panic" button that makes the entire site display: none and display: block's a iframe with a allowed in school website of the user's choice.It works well so far, but the user's flash game still runs in the background while hidden. Is there a way to pause (not reset) the game, that will work on most, if not all, flash games? It needs to be accessible from javascript (possibly just javascript, or a flash wrapper?), and it has to work in IE 6 and greater (I know... I know. Can't help it.).Failed to make it clear that the user must be able to "un-pause" their game after the unpanic button is pressed.I haven't made these games, these are already made games like linerider.
