View 3 RepliesI'm animating a series of vector based objects (brought in from Illustrator and converted to movie clips - want to keep them as vectors as I'm changing scale a lot and want to retain the clean vector edges etc) which I have applied a blur effect to in the motion editor (to give the appearance of 'motion blur').
Once I add the blur filter to the given Tween Span and test the movie, that particular part of the animation is very slow and jerky and I get the Output error:"Warning: Filter will not render. The DisplayObject's filtered dimensions (3745, 4692) are too large to be drawn.
Now I realise that the vector is too large to apply this filter to at this point in the animation and thus is affecting performance etc, but as I need to keep the image large, as I want to have a part of it go full screen at one point in the animation.
We have some very complex animations that, for performance reasons, we want to have them be bitmaps at runtime..
For example, maybe i can write a jsfl script to copy each frame and paste it into a new .fla as a png instead of as vector art, but I haven't explored that option much.
So, the actual act of scaling a vector object has a bit of a cost to the CPU, and so animating an object from one size to another has a significant cost -- but is there any additional cost for simply playing an animation that has previously been programatically scaled?
My initial thought was that if I took a character -- it's a little dude with a walk cycle, done in vector, and skooshed him to like 0.66 scaleX and scaleY then there would be some performance hit for even just playing his walk cycle in skooshed mode vs. playing it at normal size, but I can't manage to confirm my suspicion.

First: When creating a Vector, does it have to contain a Flash data type (uint, int, Number) or can I have a Vector of objects I created classes for?
Second :I cannot instantiate a Vector object. All of the documentation I am finding is saying[code]
I get "1084: Syntax Error: expecting identifier before lessthan". I was thinking that maybe I needed to include a library, but the error seems like it knows that I am trying to create a Vector.

ok lets say you create a button that when held down play an animation of 20 frames if realsed it goes to frame one and stops if held down it plays out this animation. for the topic lets say you have a fire animation and you want the fire to apear and if the user hold its down the animation reaches the end of the time line and loops back and plays the last 5 frames of the animation and as soon as it is let go it goes to and stops at frame one. Well i know how to make a button that when held down plays out an animation. And i know how to say when released goes to and stops at frame one. What i dont know how to do is to loop the fire at the last 5 or 6 frames so the user can hold it down all day long and play out that animation.
View 1 RepliesI'm currently building a create-your-own t-shirt application using AS3. My client needs the resulting design as an Adobe Illustrator file for printing. Is there a way to dynamically create an AI file from your Flash app? The only solution I have been able to come up with is recreating the design in a special version of the app that only the client has access to (the app would automatically load and create what the customer designed). This version of the app uses PrintJob to create a printable version of the design that the client saves to a PDF and then opens in Illustrator. It works, but as you can see, it's a messy process and creates additional steps for the client.

However I need to create a utility method that should be able to create a vector of any given datatype. Is it possible to specify a type using a variable instead of hard-coding it?

I am currently being confused by the Vector class.I wrote a beautiful XML to TypedClass parser. Works beautifully and without fault. UNTIL a co-worker noticed we got a Conversion Error for Vector.<Number> to Vector.<*>.
Every Vector I've ever tested all extend Vector.<*>.
Vector.<Sprite>, Vector.<String>, Vector.<Point>, Vector.<Boolean>, Vector.<TextField>, Vector.<CustomObject>, etc etc etc. ALL of them.

Now I have accounted for these 3 vectors individually as even uint and int does not extend Vector.<Number> as I would have expected.
And my parsing function works for all types correctly again. But my confusion comes as to WHY this is the case, and why I couldn't find any documentation on the subject.

View 1 RepliesI'm in a class in which I have to create a web app with animation, etc. The animation part I got after some sweat. I managed to create some buttons with the graphics for the 4 states. When I try to use those button is where I start getting lost. I've reference 3 or 4 books, lynda.com videos, etc. I can follow the code when I see it, but I have no idea what to do. Some seem to set the stop and start in the button, some in a layer with AS3 -
What I have is a background layer with static graphics, another layer with the animation, also static in that the picture changes BOOM each time, no tweening. There's a layer with audio that is lines up with the animation. I can get the audio and animation to play together. I just can't get them both to stop and start when I hit any buttons.
All I want to happen is some text (6 words) animate in from the right hand side and slow to a stop in the centre of the banner. Simple.
The problem im having is the when the text animates on it tends to stutter and appear jerky whereas I need it to be very smooth.
Ive tried animating the text using basic frame tweening with easing and with various high frame rates.Ive tried various coding methods using tweening classes (both the inherit class within flash and imported 3rd party classes) which seem to improve the animation slightly but still with some random jerkiness.[code]...

View 1 RepliesI'm a novice in flash when it comes to actionscript and xml. Let me explain what I have so far and what i want to do with it. I have a basic flash animation, which constists of 12 images horizontally scrolling across the movie stage.It is animated to scroll from right to left at a speed of 1. I would like to update all those images once a month and so I'm looking for a way to do it using xml. Has someone done this before? It will make it a lot easier to update, rather than have to manually swap out pictures in the flash file.
View 7 RepliesI want to create a simple animation of a game so you can see the playout of a game. It should be an animation in which you just see the game Tic-Tac-Toe played. I have the states of the games in a description. So player 1 marks a cell = state 1; player 2 marks a cell = state 2 etc.. I currently have the game parsed in a ruby program; it will be easy to display just one state (like in the image), but how do I create an animation from it? Is there an easy way to do this? I'm open to solutions in every language but it shouldn't take to much time to implement. I want to show such an animation in a presentation.
