ActionScript 2.0 :: Jerky Video For Isolated User?
Dec 4, 2007
I recently launched a Flash website that has video tutorials synchronized with Flash animations. Overall the site is functioning well, but I have an isolated instance of user having very jerky video with the audio occasionally cutting out.
His connection speed is fine (3572.7 Kbps). When I asked him for details he said the video was jerky from the start, and 'the video cycled from smooth to jerky once every half to a whole second.' He is using Flash player WIN 9.0.28.0, on win XP with all updates. When asked he did not provide the browser version.
Here is a link to the site:
http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com..._Analysis.aspx
The programming is done in AS 2. It's set up using net connection and net stream for flvs hosted on a media server. The flvs have cuepoints to trigger the animations. When a given flv is finished downloading the next flv in the list is then preloaded. The buffer time is set to 6 seconds.
I haven't been able to recreate the problem. The feedback that we've gotten suggests that the site runs fine. If anyone has trouble viewing this please let me know and please provide details.

I used media encoder to convert my 3 minute widescreen 856x480 video to a 428x240 flv. It plays OK on my computer but after I embed it in a webpage in Dreamweaver and upload it, it plays jittery on the internet. How can I get it play smoothly like all the other flash videos I see on the internet. Here's the link: [URL]

i am loading in 5 PNGs via MovieClipLoader, and putting them ontop of a circle. Then when i press a button i want the images to fade sequentially and each circle to fade to 20%,40%,60%,80%,100% sequentially and have got the following code to do that. (Using Zigos tween engine):
[Code]...
This is just a small part of a bigger site and when tested by itself works just as expected, however when i try to put this code into the rest of the code, the images and circles fade to the desired amount but when it is reached they immediately pop back to 100 and i cannot see why. I have looked at all the setIntervals but they seem to all have stopped at that point.

In my CS4 flash document I have created a media gallery. It's a very simple interface that has mouse overs on thumbnail pictures, and then the larger picture will fadeUP in the center of the document. (With use of framelabels in the timeline).
In the same document, I want the user to be able to click on a video thumbnail, and that video plays back in the center of the document. Several questions: If the user clicks on the thumbnail "onrelease," the time line goes to the player, is it possible to stream this video from a youtube clip into my media player on the screen? If not and I have the document in a fl4 format, is there a simple process to have this video open? (I currently do not have the document in fl4 format).

My image gallery scroller play back is jerky, it seems like a interlacing problem.This is a swf file with mouse interaction (mouse left scroll left, mouse right scroll right) 30fps, they are jpegs at 300x300 pixels.Mainly the upper part of the pictures are affected.I've looked everywhere in Flash CS4 and cant find the option setting for interlace or progressive, or does it even exist?I've tried setting the Jpeg setting as progressive in Publish setting but the problem still persist...

I've set my movie to 2fps so that I can play a note of a musical scale on each frame. Unfortunately, playback at this fps is not as uniform as I'd like and makes the full scale sound rather amateurish. I wonder if there is a way to make flash stick to a solid 2fps? Everytime I play back the slight timing errors are the same so there's a pattern to it's out-of-time-ness. I'd rather not increase the fps as that would require more frames and a larger movie to keep track of/publish but if it's the only solution I may have to. Has anyone else experienced this sort of behaviour?
I've uploaded my .swf here in the hope someone may find it useful: AudioLayer.swf Any tips or suggestions would be most welcome! I've looked everywhere on the web but I can't for the life of me find out why it's happening.

I don't do much flash but can sort of get myself around. I'm having issues with a classic tween in CS4. I have a jpeg of magazine covers inside an MC that repeats a scrolling left movement. The client has commented that it comes across a little jerky and isn't smooth enough.

I've got a short animation at 720p - not much going on, just some symbols moving around the screen - but playback in flash player is jerky (more flashy, actually) - not smooth at all.
I've got the latest video drivers for my card, running a dual-core 2.4GHz with 6GB of RAM - my CPU meter says it's having no trouble playing the flash. The video card is an Nvidia quadro NVS 285 (pretty old & crap, but should have no problems).
I don't suppose anyone has got any ideas. I am using FlashEff2 for an effect but the entire animation is jerky, not just the bit with the FlashEff. I would post the fla but I can't see any way to do that on this forum - if anyone would like to see the source, please email me at elliot dot sumner at gmail dot com.

I have a fairly decent grasp of flash, but not so much of the action script side of things. I need to make a banner similar to the one featured here:[URL]..
As you can see, the image is jerky and juddery when it scales down. From what I can find out, I think I need to use the pixel snapping feature to help make it a smoother fade, but I haven't got a clue how to write the actionscript for it, or where to put the actionscript. Can anyone give me any pointers?

I am working on an interactive guitar tutorial. Lets say that the person is watching the video and doesnt understand part of the guitar line that I am showing them. Lets say that they do not understand what happens between 3 seconds and 11 seconds (this can be any point during the video). Is there any way that the user can loop any part of the video that they are having trouble with?

On a page with an embedded Flash video (from YouTube in an <iframe/>), is it possible to be notified through JavaScript when the user starts or stops playing a video?
As far as I know, events raised on Flash level are not propagated to the container page, so it is not possible to do that.

At the end of each video, i want an arrows to appear (left or right [or both]) in order for the user to click, so that they can "go into the next room" by watching the next video.
The "undefined" part is to check if an object has a variable set, if the variable is not set it will be "undefined".
To know which is the current video, I think i need to store the object that relates to that video once it starts playing. So any time a video starts, store that object in the variable. But im not sure how to do this.[code]...

Does anyone know of a decent tutorial showing this? I'd like to have the user roll over a button, then start some streaming video. Either they roll over the actual video, or just an invisible button that's placed over the video. Either way.Every time I try to search for this I keep getting "videos about how to create roll over buttons." Not the same, and driving me nutz

I have a series of mp4 videos (H.236 @ 22 fps) streaming from an akamai FMS serve via RTMP protocol in flash player 9+ with AS 3.My goal is to create client side playlists that smoothly switch from one stream to another. I am creating these playlists using a series of netStream. play (filename,start,len) methods. If I don't use an offset for the start parameter, then the stream switches smoothly from one video to the next with not noticeable jump or jerkiness. However if I introduce a start offset, say a few seconds in, I start to see a quick little hiccup or pause between the seams as it switches from one playlist stream to the next.

I am using flash 8 professional.
I have a custom video player that loads videos from an external xml file. It uses all actionscript to control the video using the attatchVideo(ns).
At present the video starts playing as soon as the video opens, I would like the video to only start playing after the user clicks the play button.
What is the actionscript I need to achieve this?
* all the actionscript for all buttons etc. is on one layer called actions. Videos are external not on layers.

I want to make a flash form where the viewer/user can watch a video clip of their choice (from a drop-down control or something else if there's a better way). I've found myself totally unable to find our how to do this. I mean, frankly, I don't even know what kind of file to start from the "New..." form at the beginning of Flash (CS 3.0, btw)!
I know how to create a Flash Player and link it to a single video. What I envision is that after the page comes up, with a single player component (initially empty), the user chooses a video from the drop-down list and that video starts playing in the player. What kind of file should I be starting with? {I kinda assume I'll be making an SWF to put on a web page.} Where on earth do I learn how to get the simplest things (e.g., button clicks, etc.) to work?

We want to build an application that allows the user to record a video using their webcam on our site using flash and save the URL in a database using PHP. So that we can allow the user to send the video's to other users etc. Also we want to offer the user the possibility to upload their movies (per mail and with PHP) and convert them to flash movies, can this also be done using Flash media server? (maybe in combination with AMFPHP)

We have a custom flash video player. It uses streaming over a hosted FMS $50/month account.Some users are complaining that the video doesn't play at all.ith one of these users, we had them go to a speed test website and it was determined that they had a very slow connection which we are assuming is what is causing them to not be able view the video.So before we try to load the video we want to determine their connection speed. Then if they have a good enough connection we will play the video and if not then we will do something else like play a lower quality video or simply display a message and not play a video at all.

I have a flash page that loads a video. Under that I have a button tcalled "Audio Demos" that opens a pop up with an audio player.
The problem is that the video keeps playing, so I need some code that stops the video when the user clicks on the "Audio Demos" button.
Here's the code for the button:
function getGilbertAudiodemos(event:MouseEvent):void {
navigateToURL(new URLRequest("http://www.gilbert.net.au/demo.html"));
}
gil_audio.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, getGilbertAudiodemos);
