I was curious if it's possible to load a certain SWF file based on the URL that is viewing file. Basically it's an embedded file, so I would think that it'd need to be in the actionscript.

it's just so strange that merely calling the .swf from the same directory in a different Flash project is totally making this application, useless. So I downloaded this as3flvplayer script, but it hasn't been updated in over a year and has no documentation. It is based off loading the video from XML, but I would like to change it to where I can specify a URL parameter instead.

I have a main swf which has as3 code on the timeline. I have created a new small swf (a picture gallery) using external .as files (OOP) that works well on its own. I want to load the small swf (through a button on an array) into the main swf. When I click on my button in the main swf, it does not load the small swf (or I think, it cannot read the classes formed through OOP). However, I'm now trying to implement a switch statement such that the current condition icon value in the XML is read by my script and the corresponding PNG becomes the UILoader source value. I'm making my own site, and want to have all text available in four languages,interchanged by clicking on a flag button (English as 'Home' language). The main navigation tool to move between the site's pages is Lee Brimelow's carousel (3) from this site with a couple of minor changes. I was hoping to load the text for the tooltips and dynamic text field associated with each selection from the carousel from different XML files - one for each language.the only issue is that this solution only allows for two XML files to be loaded, and I can't figure how to allow for four different languages (XML files) using the same method. Can anybody please advise me how to change the AS code below, or should I look at a different way to load multiple XML files?[code]

I want to display images based on the date. Then it changes to the next one. For example for March it would be picture: img01.jpg and for April I would like the flash movie to automatically load the next picture: img02.jpg.
I'm in the process of including a 1 minute .flv into a flash doc. I don't want to stream the video since i want the video to load almost instantly and do not have any room for streaming progress bars also i can't use flash8 and to get video to stream in flash 6 is a pain.
What i have planned to do now was slice up the 1 minute video into 6/ 10sec clips. Put each clip in a seperate external movie which will range from 50-100kb each in kb's. I want to preload the first video and then play it, then in the background load external video2 while external 1 is playing. then play external 2 at the end of external video1 and do the same for the rest of the videos. Its a lot more work but i think this way i can reduce load time and have the video play almost straight away.
What do you guys think? is there a easy way to do it and achieve the same results or should i continue with my concept above, and if i do what i have planned is there any code that you can direct me too that will load a movie / hide it and play when called for?
I am developing a tool for analysis where you drag specific events onto a special wheel to analyze events based on time of day etc. I had a few users testing it and they asked for a save and load feature. I have done as much as I can at this point and am just growing confused. Can one of you experts take a look at my .fla and see what can be done...I think I am close but just can't figure it out. Also, if you can provide comments on cleaning up my code would be nice too.

Although the platform is free to use, but not open source yet. This causes a few problems because the API section works with .com sites for eg. for ebay, so I cannot visualize ebay listings for regional sites such as ebay.in because the link to ebay.com is hardcoded.I searched around, but didn't find other projects that offer a similar way to work with site APIs and other data sources with the kind of user interface and detail that impure.com does in a realtime way within a browser window.This brings me to the questions:
-What technologies would be involved in creating a similar kind of project
-What are the open source tools that can help develop a fullscreen UI to render the workspace. Are there any alternatives to flash for this, and how do they compare
The goal would be to use standard python data structures, python scripts to do some processing on these data structures, scripts to gather data from csv, json and API sources such as google yahoo, wikipedia and flickr, and scripts to render graphs, tag clouds, network visualizations etc. Then bring them all together into a visual interface that supports drag drop and simple type checking.How would the python backend integrate with the UI.
I'm relatively new to AS3. There's one thing that I don't quite understand about Sprites. I'm making a tile based game, and all the tile graphics for a level are inside one movie clip in each frame. Would I be able to go about creating multiple sprites based on the frames in said movieclip's timeline I would I have to go through and make a separate library graphic for each.

I'm using an XML file with "hotspots," and trying to dynamically load these for editability later. The first issue is that only the last-parsed node is read and loaded for any of the listeners created. Second issue: Button click seems to reset itself after clicking the first time. Any time past the 2nd, data is lost in the process.
