I'm using an XML file with "hotspots," and trying to dynamically load these for editability later. The first issue is that only the last-parsed node is read and loaded for any of the listeners created. Second issue: Button click seems to reset itself after clicking the first time. Any time past the 2nd, data is lost in the process.

The coordinates (0,0) is just an example. Those coordiinates will vary depending on location of hotspot. Is there a code for identifying location of hotspot and centering on it? [URL] The red dot is the one containing code. Green dot is not programmed.

View 1 RepliesI am trying to use a new script that uses XML to dynamically create a menu on the stage. Within the XML, I am establishing a function to use with that button. One button may just link to something on the web while another will simple display/hide a specific movieclip on the stage. I also have another button that I need to use to show any hotspots on the stage. Originally, I had the code on the instance of a static button on the stage and used a loop to get the items on the stage. Now, though, I have this "generic" Object() with a function called showHot. I have been playing around with using _parent, but can't figure out how to get to the items on the stage. All my hotspot movieclips' names start with "hs", so if I can just figure out how to loop through the items on the stage, I can check the names of those items.

I'm trying to build a text input field with a fixed width, multiline. So when you type and the input is more than the available space, the field increases in height... similar behavior to blogs and other html forms recently.
I was hoping there was some easy method or property to make this change, but if not, then does the text input throw some event when the text exceeds the width?

I read through the random colour tutorial with interest, and wondered to myself if an objects colour could be altered in other ways... such as by a weather feed or stocks feed. I thought it would be interesting if the design of a site could be changed regularly by outside influences.
View 5 RepliesI have made a UI control which contains a bunch of TextFields representing the members of an Array. I draw these un a list like in a combo box's drop down. Currently I hard code the height of the TextFields, iterate through the Array and position the TextFields by adding the hard coded height each time. Simple enough.
But now I would like to put the control in another place where I must use smaller text. So I would like to make the thing general so I can resuse it whenever I want, simply by applying a new TextFormat. My problem is that I want to still be able to position the TextFields accurately regardless of the font size used in the TextFormat. I have tried just creating the TextField, applying the TextFormat, setting the text, and then trying to read the TextField's height, but alas this does not work.
what the best way is to find each TextField's height so that I can build my list?
I'm trying to create a form that based on the users input would determine how many forms to generate dynamically. I have a base state with a combo box that contains 1-4. Bases on the users selection I would like to have the next state generate the number of forms. So if you user selects 2 and click next - 2 copies of the form would be display.
I'm just wondering if this is possible how i would go about doing this or if any one knows of any examples?
What im looking to do is dynamically create TextFields based on my array.length. So if I have 3 strings in my array then 3 TextFields with the array text needs to be created.
I've managed to actually create TextFields based on the array.length - however afterwards I dont know how to reference them individually, to lets say re-position x, y for array[1]. I've tried saving the Textfields in another array by .push method, but can't seem to reference them correctly.

I have been working with this script for a few days now and have gotten to a near completed point, but I can't seem to script the final step. I have an xml file that is being parsed into my .fla file. There are 3 buttons which are dynamically created based on a tag called <navItem>. The function 'displayContent' should be displaying the appropriate chunk of xml in various text boxes, but instead, it only displays the last chunk (the 3rd chunk) no matter which button I click on. it's just so strange that merely calling the .swf from the same directory in a different Flash project is totally making this application, useless. As I mentioned earlier, I'm a beginner or less, at Flash, so please bear with me if my problem seems dumb. Nevertheless, my deepest gratitude for anyone that can help me out with this problem.
