View 8 RepliesI'm trying to trigger some events (fading of nearby movieclips) based on cue points of a currently playing FLV. I'm using the FLVPlayback component (not Netstream) and have added cue points from inside flash (so they're "Actionscript" type). I actually found a nice article here: [URL] but it's AS2. To put it simply, let's say I have the following:
1) FLVPlayback component which has a parameter called "movie.flv" for the clip that it's supposed to play.
2) The instance of the component is called "movie_inst".
3) There are 2 cue points added through the component's parameters rollout, one called "point1", another called "point2".
What's the simplest code to tell flash "when you get to point1 I want you to do ___"?
Is there an actionscript for a point system? I want my points to be time based from this script

I'm trying to draw a curve based on 24 data points. I want to draw a curved line based on the average of these 24 points. I can draw a line from point to point no problem, but would like a smooth curve. The white dashed line is what I'm trying to achieve:

Old dribble: I'm looking for some pointers for a problem with making a table. It may be that I have started off in the wrong direction - anyways, I'm stuck now. The .png displays my objects, and how they are connected/grouped. The highlighted (red) shows the variable containing the points.
The pink with the most points should be displayed higher than the rest, and 2nd most points should ofc be 2nd highest. I have tried taking the red variable out of the pink, but I could not think of a way of moving the red variable based on its own value. I'm going to edit the red variables (as the world cup goes on), and there is no need for cookies and such. And if there is a simpler way of doing the setup, let me know. I'm using SwishMax3 (SM2 up till a few days ago, so I'm more used to as2..)
So I have this flash app I'm making that uses a URL load to load a bunch of plot points from an address. When the loader finishes, it send the data to a plotter function. the plotter function clears the graphics in a shape called graphLine. It then draws a line from one plot point to another using the lineTo function. Basically every 3 seconds it makes this request and redraws the screen and updates the value of a textfield to the current y value. In flex builder 3, it works great in debug mode. The screen updates just fine. However, when I make the release build and test it out in a browser, it loads the data fine, but will not draw it until I stop the graphing process. Any thoughts on this one? Here's the code for the graphing function

How would I be able to jump to cue points of an externally loaded flv? I have a video flv playing as the background and I want to be able to jump to cue points of the video on mouse click. Is this possible or should I go a different route?
Also how would I be able to jump to different frame when video ends?
I have a root stage, and a MC that is called from the root stage.Now from that MC, i will called in another MC2, and I wanted to placed the MC in the center of the stage. The reason I could not use normal ADDED_TO_STAGE at MC and define the center is because MC is not place in the exact position of the root stage (as in x, y=0). So if I would target MC2 at MC stage center, it would not be the exact center of the root stage/screen.How can I called the root stage properties rather than adding MC2 into the stage?

View 1 RepliesI have been tasked with trying to create a drawing tool that draws dotted lines as you drag the mouse across the stage. I can easily capture the points on MouseEvent.MOUSE_MOVE and store them in a vector and then draw the points as dots:
The problem is that I need to calculate evenly distributed points on an ever growing Vector of points so I can only draw the line between say every 5th point (say using modulus). I have been battling away with Bezier curve equations both Quadratic and Cubic but still can't quite figure out how to convert my Vector of points into an evenly distributed Vector of Points without sucking the life from the CPU.

I have found out that I can not use loaderInfo.getBytesLoaded in as3. I have a gallery located here: [URL]the functionality is almost complete, but my gallery still has issues loading all the thumbnails. It seems that sometimes they wont load while sometimes they do. I have split my thumbnail process into:
LoadThumbs: Loads the thumbs
Callthumbs:Arranges the thumbs
Each function is called once per thumbnail. My problem is that I can not find the bytes loaded information for the thumbnail as it loads. Event completion and preloaders dont seem to help. I doubt it's my alpha tween because the thumbs are un click-able when they are not there. This is the info for my function, with the comments indicating the parts that bring up errors.

I'm working on my first Flash project, and for my preloader I'd like to do a really simple gradient based on the percentage loaded. The preloader says "77% loaded...", where the number 77 is a dynamic text instance called percentLoaded. I'd like the textColor of percentLoaded to change on a gradient from #000000 to #FFFFFF, in gray-scale.Therefore, I can't simply do:percentLoaded.textColor=(currentValue/100)*0xFFFFFF;This just converts the textColor to a multiple of FFFFFF, but outputs a color since it's not three separate components. In practice, I create some MovieClip containers (loader_1, loader_2, etc.) and in each container I want to load one image.
What happens: when the images are loaded I want to position each image at the y+10 pixel of the preceding, so if the first is at y:0 and its height is 140, I want the second image at y:150 (and so on). I can't understand what it happens but sometimes the code works, while most of the time it doesn't.

The problem is that it only seems to fire off the event complete function on the very last one, instead of going for all of them. Is there a way to make it run the even.complete function for each image?

im trying to make a pre-loader, that based on the percent loaded, displays text. So at 5% it says "loading" and at 10% "still loading" , etc. Im guessing there is a way to say percenttotal=5, entertext=still loading target=instancenameoftextbox I've gotten the loader tutorial on the site here to work, i just want to add this to it.

it's just so strange that merely calling the .swf from the same directory in a different Flash project is totally making this application, useless. I have a main swf which has as3 code on the timeline. I have created a new small swf (a picture gallery) using external .as files (OOP) that works well on its own. I want to load the small swf (through a button on an array) into the main swf. When I click on my button in the main swf, it does not load the small swf (or I think, it cannot read the classes formed through OOP). trying to create an animated preloader.how to do a basic bar preloader but what I want is to fill a swirl shape (attached) based on the amount loaded.I can easily enough create the movie clip where the full outline is there and then it fills up but I have no idea how to turn that into a preloaded and have it fill based on the percent loaded. Am I correct in assuming I can't use a mask because of the irregular shape?

I want to create a set of buttons based on loaded images from xml that onClick turn red or grow in size, whatever, Clicking another turns that button red and the old one back to default. Alsoo it will attach a animated movieclip onclick to the button and when pressing another button, it swifts to that button.

But Now the problem is that when another button is clicked I have to add the listeners back on the button, but I cant get the button because they all have the same name. Same with addChild the animated movieclip. Can't remove it. The buttons have a variable name, and can be unlimited.
I have the first two values going to separate text fields on stage, and that's working great. However, I'm now trying to implement a switch statement such that the current condition icon value in the XML is read by my script and the corresponding PNG becomes the UILoader source value. First and foremost, is UILoader the best component for use in displaying a PNG on stage?Here's my code thus far:
