I have a dynamic menu using actionscript. All buttons and texts are created by ctionscript, not on the stage.After the script I create a movieclip on the highest depth, draw a filled rectangle on it and make it the mask to all like this:menu.swf:
I always wanted Flash to emulate After Effects' animation environment after Adobe acquired it from Macromedia,After a bit of struggling and plenty of cussing, I'm finally starting to get used to the new interface and the behavior of the motion editor/new motion tween protocols. That said, I'm still having trouble with a few concepts, namely viewing animated masks inside "3D" movieclips. why you can't preview animation happening inside a movie clip on the stage. Is there any technical reason I'm too blind and/or stupid to notice? Otherwise it seem like something they'd allow to do in all this time!
How would one go about masking movie clips that are nested within other movie clips?
I have a photo gallery slider type of thingy that loads jpegs with loadMovie into containers. I can mask the entire movie clip but as for the containers,...well I just dont know whats going on here.
I used a tutorial from here, that creates snow, and changed it up a bit so that it now creates fizz in a soda. however I'm running into a snag.Is there any way to mask duplicated movieClips so that they only show up in a certain area? Or some way to set parameters to accomplish the same effect? (i.e. I want the bubbles to only appear in the area of the cup, and not all over the place).Right now I have just set X and Y values to do this, but the cup is angled and not square, so it doesn't looks quite right.I have tried setting a mask on a layer above which the duplicated movie clip sits, and also have tried setting the depth of a mask_mc so that it is well above any of the layers that the bubbles are generated on (by use of a for() loop), but nothing works.
I have a scroll pane with the instance name menuScroll. The scrollPane loads a linked movie clip called menuDropMC with the same instance name. MenuDropMC also loads several instances of a linked movie clip called moduleNameMC with the same instance name. The moduleNameMC contains a button called moduleBtn. I am trying to disable this button from root.
The moduleNameMCs are generated dynamically and are followed by a number using a for loop.("moduleNameMC"+i)
e.g. moduleNameMC0, moduleNameMC1, moduleNameMC2, etc.
After a lot of experiments and reading many articles, Q&As, I still didn't find the answers to my problem, then I decided to ask my question at great stackoverflow forum:-)
The setup of my project is as follows:
- Create an AS3 project in Flash Builder 4 (Main.as3proj), and write source code in it; - Create graphical assets in Flash CS5; - Load the graphical assets in the AS3 project;
In the graphical assets (swfs), there are text fields, we would like to use Embedded fonts for the text fields. But we don't want to embed the fonts in all swfs, we want to create a swf as a font library (FontLib.swf), that embed all the fonts needed across all the graphical assets (swfs).
After loading or embedding the FontLib.swf to the main application (Main.swf), the embedded fonts is availabe: TextField.isFontCompatible(myFontName, myFont)
is true. And when I create a TextField with the embedded font at runtime, it works fine. But besides this, I want to use the embedded fonts for the TextFields in other graphical assets like what I described at the begging, but when I try to change the text for the dynamic text field in a movie clip, the text field will disappear. (Before changing the text, it can be displayed because Flash CS5 automatically embed the fonts for the characters already input in the fla/swf file).
I tried to clone the text field with the same properties of the text field in the movie clip and replaced the old one, as I said, this works as other text fields created at run time. But I have other problem with cloning and replacing the text fields in movie clip. I wonder if there is a way to instruct the flash player to use the externally loaded embedded fonts for the text fields in movie clip.
I have my flash document set up in the following way: On the main timeline I have my buttons that I want to play movie clips embedded inside a movie clip on the main timeline.However, when I click each different button, the current movie clip stops playing and then the movie clip corresponding to the button plays.
I want them all to be able to play at once. So for example you push button 1 and the alien plays, but half way through you could click button 2 and the alien clip would keep playing, but also the helicopter clip would begin to play as well.Here is the code I have so far:

For loop generates clips containing clips. I need to access a specific clip (look_back) within the parent clip generated by the loop. Not sure how to do this.[code]
I'd like to gain read only access to the following parameters of embedded Flash videos located on sites that I do not own through my own custom browser extension/add-on:
Time location of playback head (so I can display the current time in the browser extension via HTML5/JavaScript) Frames (so I can make capture them to an image file, save it and display image in browser extension) Original Dimensions in pixels (so I can display the original video dimensions via JS/HTML5 in browser extension)
Is this possible by using Javascript and HTML5 from a browser extension?

I made a flash mp3 player and it works fine in any other test pages. but when i embed it onto my site it just shows blank. what do i do? my site is [URL] and the flash player i tested here [URL] and it plays. What im i doing wrong? i tryed everything. right now i just got it in a iframe but i dont want that iframe.
Looking at the attached file, why does bottomScrollV give me the wrong value when the text is dynamically embedded and correct when manually embedded?

I am setting up a flash game with seven toggle on/off buttons that all do the same thing.I know how to assign them all to be able to do the same function in the main timeline. What I can't figure out is how to get them all to also do the same function within each of their respective movie clips.
I've been trying to reproduce an animation effect I've seen on the Armani website, but I'm stuck trying to duplicate an empty movie clip with image loaded into it. The duplicates exist and I can move them, but they are invisible. Since the duplicates reside on depths above the intitial clip I'm confused about why they are invisible. The duplicates are scripted to follow behind the initial clip - each offset by 30 pixels (though I don't have that working perfectly).

i made a masking anim using frame by frame animation on the mask layer...
when i exported the swf it was of 83 kb (too huge) and i checked it was all due to shapes in the mask layer....
i found "eltima swf optimizer" on internet but it gives only black and white output in the demo version ....
i opmitized all shapes one by one by using modify>shape>optimize using 100% optimization but when i exported swf this time was 114kb(even more) this sux!!!
my question is that is there any other "swf optimizer" that i can use for free.. (hey its my school project and i just need to mask a single jpeg)
I posted a message a while ago about creating a spotlight effect over a background and it was suggested that I use masks to create the desired effect. This worked fantastically.... until now lol. I need to mask both the background image AND some randomly generated on-screen objects. Whever I try to add the mask to the objects generated at run-time, it ceases to mask the background as well!
I should probably have expected this one... but was just wondering what was the best wat to get around this? Should I create 2 'spotlight' objects which directly overlap each other, but have one set to mask the background while the other masks everything else? Or is there an easier approach?
I have a PNG file with transparency imported into the library and converted to MovieClip.Now I want to use this PNG file for masking another sprite drawn dynamically using the drawing API. I know that you cant mask a runtime generated sprite with a author time movieclip. So i created another runtime sprite and copied the BitmapData of the PNG in the library to it. The masking happens, but not the way i want. The BitmapData is always a solid box and the masking apears across this box. I would like to have the transparent region of the PNG omitted from the mask data
Lets say I have 3 layers A, B and C. I want A to be the mask for B which is pretty easy, but at the same time I want B to be the mask for C. Is that possible?

I'm coming from AS3 and I'm trying to mask a SWF file that's being imported in but it's doing something pretty funky. The SWF file is coming in fine, but when I'm masking it, it shows the shape I'm masking with, but it's also masking because nothing is going beyond its' edges.

How do I add text effects such as a mask to text that has strokes, or decorated text? I would like to have a masked effect on special type that has a stroke to it.Currently the mask works on static Arial text and when I convert the static text to a movie clip. But the mask doesn't work when I convert the static text to dynamic text.
I need to create the effect of something appearing dynamically. I have th�s script type font, that I want to have the effect of being written out. So I guess what I need is some tutorial on masking.
I have gimp. I have flash cs4.I have a picture of a dog that is 200 by 200 pixels with alpha transparency (you only see the dog no background, it's a png).Now I want to make only the dog listen for a mouseclick event. I saw some way of doing this by looking at the point where the mouse click event occured, and then stopping or continuing the event propogation based on if the pixel clicked was transparent or not. This seems sort of hackish. The "Clean" way I propose is by using a mask over the 200 by 200 image, but the mask should be shaped like everything that is NOT the dog. So it's a mask with a hole in the middle. the hole in the middle being nothing. not even alpha. Or the other way if this isn't possible, is to create a 200 by 200 image with just alpha value 0, and then stamp the dog on top as a mask... It appears there is nothing out there that describes how to do this.All I see are "bitmapfill" on squares and circles, which is utterly basic.
I am attaching my .fla so you can take a look. The code is a bit long, but I marked the setMask code line with dashes (it's right on top). I marked out the setMask line so you can see how it looks like, because when I do mask, you can see any of the MCs that are being masked.
