I want to make a scroller that can be just a scroll bar, no arrows, another one with arrows and another one that scrolls by itsself very slowly, on mouse over of a news "item" it stops scrolling...
Only thing is that I want to include vector graphics in this scrollable area an so forth.As far as I know you can't mask dynamic text at all.
I have UP and DOWN buttons and i want them to scroll my newsMC when rolledOver.this is the code in emptyMC on a second frame:

I've been tasked with producing a Flash movie which will retrieve (presumably as an array) a list of all the articles in our Sharepoint Portal 2003 news listing, and display the title and abstract text, one story at a time (looping through every item in
the array).
I presume I need to use the WebServiceConnector, and point the WDSL URL to our Area's areaservice.amsx, and then presumably use the GetAreaListingData operation to retireve the data, and hopefully pipe the data out into a couple of dynamic text boxes,but beyond that I'm a bit lost. Talk about in at the deep end, but unfortunately as the only developer on site who knows anything at all about Flash, I'm up against it to get this completed as quickly as possible..
I am action script handicapped so bare with me. I know very basic action script functions like go to frame stop, play ect So complicated flash code does not really work for me unless it is explain easy and clear step by step. I know the animation portion of flash which helps me get by. I need to know how to pause a scrolling text as simple as possible when I click mouse over it.
I created a button (which is really displayed as text so that I can link to a website url) (SEE IMAGE)
The text is animated from frame 1 off screen to frame 400 top off canvas off screen. I did this the animation way instead of the coding way. So it should scroll from bottom to top (which I animated with frames), link to a new site (which I figured out), and pause on mouse over and play on mouse off.
I am trying to make a AS3 version of a scrolling news ticker although Iseem to be having trouble. The code below doesn't seem to be working although its not throwing any errors. I think its not loading my xml nodes or something. All I am trying to do is it to eventually load an rss feed and scroll a selected set of nodes. For now I just tried to get it to display an xml formated file since rss is xml formated. Ultimately for this example I just want it to display the title attribute of every item.

I am in the process of building a web site and am running into an issue with dynamic loading text.I am trying to make a scrolling news section with a stage of 200 W x 250 LCreated a movie clip with the following coding:

Then set the clip (which is 250 W x 600 L) on the main stage, moving upwards, creating the auto scroll effect.The problem I am running into is that I can't figure out how to make the text use the whole width of the text box I created. It only uses half of the width, creating columbs like this:

The text box itself is at least twice the width of the sentences, but they aren't using the full width.
My text animation scrolls from left to right, which is OK. I want to keep it simple but change it up little. How do I get the text to go right to left?

looking to build a horizontal news ticker like you would see at the bottom of the screen on CNN etc except it will only display one item at a time. Just thinking and planning before I start.... If the news ticker is only going to be wide enough to display one news item at a time, will my flash load all of the xml news data as soon as it launches and hide all the content that is outside of the ticker width or would/should it only load/display each news item individually when it is that items turn to display in the ticker?

I've set the clip up to stop it's scrolling on a rollOver, and start up again on the rollOut.
My problem is that after the rollOut the loop doesn't work. The movieClip just keeps travelling.

I just got the trial of Flash Cs5 and haven't used Flash since MX back in 04-06. Having an issue with buttons now in context of a scrolling text area. My code is set up as such:

Where up is the button to scroll upwards and down is...(you guessed it). Maintext is the movieclip in which my text is which each frame being the text "scrolled" further. My issue IS: This was working just fine UNTIL I added "Over", "Down", and "Hit" frames into my buttons (whereas previously they were just single frame arrows), and then when previewing my flash the cursor doesn't even recognize the buttons as such, and nothing happens if you click on either... If I got back and delete the over, down, and hit frames, BOOM, problem goes away. This seems very strange to me, I never had a problem like this in MX.
I have a vertical thumbnail menu on the side of my site. When I move the mouse up or down it will scroll accordingly...however it's anywhere I move the mouse up or down on the page. What series of code is neccessary to assign this scrolling mouse event ONLY over the menu area?

Currently it is putting the first news item in both news boxes.ction script so that the second box is actually the second "<news> tag". From the tutorial I removed the <info> <author> and <comment> tags.
View 0 RepliesI put a text area component on stage and set the vertical scrolling to Auto, so now when ever I have to much text the scroll bar pops up, but the problem is that I can't get the scroll bar to always be on the bottom, so when ever I add more text I always have to use my mouse and drag the scroll bar to view the latest info, is there a way that I can see the latest update without having to manually scroll down?
View 1 Repliesi have a drop down menu am working on and each button tab (although they are not button instances !) when clicked opens up the "drop down" section which you can mouse over to choose another specific button etc - if you mouse out of that drop down area then it pulls back up to the original tab state .. what do i change to the code below to decrease the area that you mouse out of to make the drop down area pull back .....at the moment it at least two inches on the screen below and to the right of boundaries of the drop down box before it pulls up - i want to it pull up as the mouse leaves the boundary box .... hope this makes sense .... there is some part of the actionscipt below that controls this but can work out which bit and how to change it !!! (am guessing the x mouse and y mouse bits - but how to change it ???)

I have a movie clip named circle_mc(see the image on the link below) and a mask object(movie clip) which determines visible area of the circle. User can change the portion which is visible (extend the red area and make it red+blue, gray area is invisible). I need to find proportion of visible area to invisible area (red+blue/gray) so that I can calculate angle.
View 1 RepliesI would like to first add the xml to my flash. Fine I can do this.But I have a number of buttons, where when I click say CW1, i get the information from the XML file with a node of CW1. I have all the xml set up fine.As I have about eight different postcode types.
ST, CW, CH, TF, WV, WS, DE, SK, SY, and each of these may have numbers that follow, i.e ST1, ST2, ST3 and so forth.
So I can only assume that the postal area could be the main nodes, and the numbers inside the child nodes, am I right thus far.o how can i load the area of the xml file into my text area on mouse click, pulling the information relating.

it moves fine and stuff but i was wondering how can i restrict the area in which the movieclip can actually move ? my flash file is 550px X 400px and i want to make it so that it can only move in 300px X 200px of the file if you understand ?
I have a spark List with an item renderer and a tile layout. If I scroll by clicking with the mouse on the scroll bar and trying to scroll with the mouse wheel after that, there is a problem: The interval of the scrolling is oversized, instead of scrolling one item down (or up) the List scrolls 4 items down (or up).
