Flash Load Timing With Shared Libraries?

Jun 30, 2010

I've started using Shared Libraries and this subject peaked my interest... does Flash still have load timing issues with Shared Libraries? I found a few site online that mention that your Flash project will load but if it didn't have time to load your Shared Library, it simply won't load it and you are out of luck. Is this still true with the latest version of Flash? If so, how do I preload the library to make sure it doesn't happen?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Runtime Shared Library Load Timing?

Mar 22, 2010

I think I basically get runtime shared libraries, but I have some very specific questions which I have not been able to find answers for anywhere:

1) When you load swf "A" that references a runtime shared library swf, does the entire runtime shared library swf also immediately load? (true/false)

2) When swf "A" instantiates a symbol that is linked to be imported from the runtime shared library, does the entire runtime shared library swf load then? (true/false)

3) When swf "A" instantiates a symbol that is linked to be imported from the runtime shared library, does only that specific symbol load? (true/false)

My problem is, if I put all my bitmaps in swf "A", then it takes a really long time to load. I'm wondering, if I put all my bitmaps in a runtime shared library, and link the symbols in swf "A" to the runtime shared library, then will swf "A" load fast (because the runtime shared library is not loaded)? And when I instantiate a linked symbol, will it also load fast (because the entire runtime shared library is not loaded)?

I have a video, 14 minutes long, at various times, I need to load information for a few seconds, and then unload it.At the moment, I'm doing it all in the timeline which works fine, however I'm limited by 16,000 keyframes which for the last video, was about 7 minutes (full video was 9).Is there a way to load and unload in 1 long action script file at the beginning of the video? eg (not actual code btw)

at 4 seconds, load 1.swf into container1
at 14 seconds, unload 1.swf from container1
at 16 seconds, load 2.swf into container1

ActionScript 2.0 :: Refreshing Call To Load Php Every X Seconds?

Jul 20, 2009

I have a project where I have code inside a MC on the main timeline that loads XML via a php file on the server. Once the data is loaded, it sends commands to other MCs and works just fine.However, I need to refresh this XML info every 5 seconds or so. I have tried several things such as interval code and pause code, but the farthest I got was that it paused the initial clip for 5 seconds, then ran the script once, but never again. Or it refreshed, but got stuck on the first frame of the clip.Now I am thinking I would be better off NOT having the code inside the MC, but on the main timeline and just having the action span the course of the main timeline. That way, the call to the php can be refreshed from any frame of the main timeline. Does that sound right?

Actionscript 2.0 :: Load New Image In Moveclip Every 5 Seconds

May 5, 2009

I'm attempting to load a new image into a Movieclip from an Array assigned in KeyFrame 1 on the Main timeline and I am trying to use setInterval and clearInterval to get this working, but I think I may have layout or the function incorrect.[code]This loads a new image every time the panel is clicked on (Panel 2 - Trusted) but I can't get it to automatically cycle through the images in the array. Here's a link to the SWF in question: URL..And in case someone wants to see how I have it setup, here's a copy of the FLA: URL... (CSS and images are loaded externally)Does anyone see what I'm doing wrong? I need to apply this function to 2 other panels, so I need to streamline.

ActionScript 1/2 :: MovieClip Does Not Duplicate After Every X Seconds

Jul 7, 2009

In my movieclips, I already have functions such as the following:
onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
currentlocx = this._x;
currentlocy = this._y;
differencex = newX - currentlocx;
differencey = newY- currentlocy;
[Code] .....

How would I add other functions such as duplicateMovieClip(my_mc, "new_mc", 5); to the code. Where would I add them? I've tried adding them under (enterFrame) but my movieclip does not duplicate after every "x" seconds. In addition to this, I would like my movieclip to "disappear" whenever it is clicked.

Flash :: Jquery - Open A SWF In ThickBox In Drupal On Page Load And Close It After X Seconds

Dec 11, 2009

After working for a prolonged time on a programming problem, I start to get coding tunnel vision. It makes it harder to draw back and look at the problem from farther away. Hence my question: I am using a Drupal 6 site. When a menu option is clicked, the page opens and a Flash SWF file needs to played in a ThickBox. After 8 seconds, that Thickbox closes.

Opening the SWF file in the Thickbox when a link is clicked is no problem, just like closing the Thickbox afterwards; that's basic javascript. For that I use these:

[Code]...

But opening the Thickbox on load? I can add a link for the user to click, but it should open automatically. I figured out the PHP to have it only open on one specific page. From the Thickbox manual, I learned to open links to images - but not how to open it when the page loads.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Animate A Movieclip To A Random Location On Stage Every 5 Seconds

Aug 6, 2009

supposing there is a movieclip in stage.. let's say its a circle with an instance name of "theCircle"..

the circle has to move / go to / animate to a random location on stage every 5 seconds... basically, the circle should move to the random location, stop and wait for 5 seconds, then move again to another random location.. again and again...

the code below is untested and incomplete.. but it is what i am trying to do... how i should go about this...

ActionScript Code:
var randomXPosition:int;
var randomYPosition:int;
var positionTimer:Timer;

[Code]....

on the moveCircle function, i can simply set the X and Y of the circle equal to randomXPosition and randomYPosition... but that would just change the location of the circle, not move it.. i am trying to make the circle animate towards that location at a constant speed..

ActionScript 3.0 :: Making A Generated Movieclip Self Destruct (remove From Screen) After X Seconds?

Jul 7, 2009

I'm making a game where little parcels appear and if they aren't dragged to the correct zone within 5 seconds, they disappear and the player loses points. The problem i'm having is that i'm generating the movieclip parcel objects as follows:

[Code]...

currentParcel is 1 of 3 (randomly selected) movieclip names (redParcel, yellowParcel and orangeParcel).

What I need to do is add some code to say "after a movieclip has been generated...if it is still here in 5 seconds time. It sounds simple but I can't figure it out for the life of me! I've tried setInterval with something like: timedProcess = setInterval(timeCheck, 5000);

but how can I pass the actual movieclip "handle" along with the function so that timeCheck knows which movieclip to delete?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Video Playback - 60 Seconds Video To Start Playing After 40 Seconds Have Been Downloaded

Jul 19, 2010

1) I want a 60 seconds video to start playing after 40 seconds have been downloaded - to do that I set the NetStream.bufferTime to 40 seconds and retrieve "NetStream.Buffer.Full" event causing the video to really start playing. This step is OK.

2) However, the "NetStream.Buffer.Full" causes data to stop downloading. So the remainder of the video begins to download no sooner than after the 40 seconds have been played. This step is my issue. Can anyone tell me how to avoid this unintended effect? (i.e. playing a video and downloading data at the same time?)

ActionScript 2.0 :: Timing When Using OnLoad And XML?

I want to preload some images if the user has been to the movie before. I call XML which has the image array. But I can't tap into that array because my function is outside the XML Load event and my function is not tied to an event.
