ActionScript 2.0 :: Using Timer To Dynamically Load MovieClip
Jan 8, 2004
Is there any timer function in flash to load a movie clip after a certain time elapsed? Like we can adjust the time when it will load and when it will disappear.

I am not terribly advanced in Flash, but I have figured out dynamically loading text and images into flash, but what I am trying to set up is somewhat of a back end script for a client. It is a photography website and I am trying to have the images dynamically load into a movie clip. So he can change out the files on his end when needed. I have a script something like this for the button that loads the image.
on(press){
controller.loadMovie("image.jpeg");
}

I'd like to dynamically load thumbnails into a horizontal movieclip at the bottom of an image gallery to then allow me to load an image by clicking the thumbnails. I found a tutorial tooad the thumbnails to the stage but I am not sure how to load them into the thumbs movieclip. Here is the code I am using:
var imageLoader:Loader;var xml:XML;var xmlList:XMLList;var xmlLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();xmlLoader.load(new URLRequest("xml/murals.xml"));
xmlLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, xmlLoaded);

I have some fairly large movieclips in the library which need to be dynamically loaded at runtime. I don't want to export them all in frame 1, because that would slow down initial loading of the movie. I tried putting an instance of each of these clips later in the timeline where they wouldn't normally be encountered. When I then tried to load one from the library dynamically, I was able to successfully get an instance of the movieclip, but its currentFrame property was 0 and I couldn't see anything on the stage. As soon as I enabled "Export in frame 1", it worked properly. Does this old trick of putting an instance on the timeline somewhere no longer work in AS3?

I'm working on a photo-sharing demo using AS2.0, I would like to dynamically load photos (stored as jpgs in the .fla's local directory) into MovieClips, and apply a class instance to them. Currently, for debugging, I've imported jpgs to the Stage, converted them to MovieClips, and then accessed their linkage properties, setting them to the class I need them to implement. But for the final application all of this will have to be done with code.
I know how to dynamically load the jpg into a MovieClip using loadImage(), and I know how to create a MovieClip that is an instance of a class by using attachMovie() with a library symbol and the class name. How do I combine the two? Is there a way to access the linkage properties of a MovieClip dynamically?

Based on the Kirupa Flash XML Gallery, I tried to expand it as far as I could. Right now, it loads the images, generates buttons dynamically according to how many images are in the XML que, and each image is hyperlinked. I want to load in a swf file dynamically via XML into an another empty movieclip everytime I go to a new image. In another words if I have 9 images in my gallery, each image is assigned a swf file to load into another empty movieclip.

I have a page that loads loads of swfs*. I'm loading in them all at the same time, Sequentially which is slowing down the intro animation. Is there a way to load swfs sequentially? Or if not load them on a timer (half a sec would do the trick I think)
*there lots of different dynamically generated Flex graphs so it's not possible to have them all in one.

I'm trying to dynamically load a SWF into a blank movieClip called "holder" and control it by instance name on MOUSE_DOWN. I'm sure this is easier than I'm making it but the SWF just has a bunch of frames and i want to use one script to scrub through the frames but i can't figure out how ot get the instance name (or whatever) of the movieClip.
// Load movieClip into "holder" movieClip
var loader = new Loader();
holder.addChild(loader);
loader.load(new URLRequest(btn_SWFname));

Lets say you have a bunch of similar movieclips and you want to move anyone of them dynamically. We would use:
[Code]...
Something like that. However, my issue is not selecting a movieclip dynamically, but selecting another movieclip dynamically within a dynamically selected movieclip.

I am building a pretty heavy application that allows me to load one or more external swf(s). To remove the swf(s) from the main stage I have built a button. The purpose of this button is that the user has to hold it down for a short while to prevent accidentally removing the swf loaded. In my button class I had set a timer that would start when a MOUSE_DOWN event is fired. The timer itself has an event listener TIMER added that "ticks" every 1 ms. The main problem is that it just doen't do this. The timer function fires at (as it seems to me) much long and random intervals that are also different for each swf that is loaded. So a heavier swf results in the timer being fired even less often and a thus a lot more inaccuracy. Does anyone of you have an idea on how to fix my timer issues or just have a better idea on how to achieve the delay i want to build in the button.

Basically my project is like this, if the time condition is not meet, then it will display a default swf. If meet,then it will unload the default swf and display certain blank swf which will addchild certain image and words based on record in database. Then when the time is reach the end of duration, it will unload the blank swf along with the images and words and upload back the default. how to do in such a way like automatically unload a default swf and load the blank swf along with objects when the time is meet with computer system time and vice versa.

i am trying to make my movieclip blink, it blinks when it is hit by something, to create the effect of a game.i have a hit test when it is hitted, caught is called on the object.the caught function of the object will make it stop and start to blink based on a timer.My timer is set on new Timer(400); why does my object not blink? my conditions seem to be correct.
if (hit.hitTestObject(f.hit))
f.caught();

I have a code that creates 10 dynamic text fields, along the "y" axis, based on a loop.
What I want to happen is, for each text field that is created, i want the numbers to constantly change based on a timer (they'll all change at the same time, but to random numbers).
Right now, the code below changes the numbers, but keeps stacking the new numbers on top of the old...
Code:
Code:
var timer:Timer = new Timer(100,0);//called every Xms, repeated infinately (0);
timer.addEventListener (TimerEvent.TIMER, doNumber);
timer.start ();

I have a "News Bar" on my flash site that plays a movieclip I created to display the news. I would like a one-time delay of around 2.5 seconds before the movieclip starts playing. I'm comfortable with flash and am learning AS3 more and more everyday.

I am trying to set up an animation that would run after a timer is set. Every part of the rabbit would move so would I have to make each a movieclip or can I do it with just one timeline per part. As I have it now it is a MC with an timeline animation.

I am trying to make a timer that swaps two movie clips, so that each two seconds? Here is the code:
var leftPillar:MovieClip = new Right();
leftPillar.x=150;
leftPillar.y=250;
leftPillar.width=550;
leftPillar.height=400;
The idea is that each 2 seconds the movie clip should change to which ever one is now visible. What is currently happening is that only one of the clips ever shows, (newLeftPillar).

I have this class named MovingObject which extends the MovieClip class. This class will be instantianted for several times. Inside this class is a Timer that handles the speed of the objects moving. There is another class called TheStage and this is where I will instantiate MovingObject (s).
public class MovingObject extends MovieClip{
public var tmr:Timer = new Timer(1);
public function MovingObject(){
tmr.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, Move);
} public function StartMove():void{
this.tmr.start();
[Code] .....
Assuming that the code is working fine (I haven't debugged it), this makes the particles to move all at once. However after several seconds of running it, the particles seem not to be moving in synchronization with each other (because their distances between seem to get nearer). How to make the objects move with their distances each other evened out.

I have a series of movieclips and when each one is clicked it calls a function e.g
movieclip1.onrelease = function(){
// function here
}
Is it possible to deactivate each one for 5 seconds when it is clicked, then reactivate it after 5 seconds using a timer or something?

I set up a loop where a movie clip moves in a triangle over and over. It works, but I want it to pause for 5 seconds at each location, so I added a Timer (my first attempt). Now, it will go through the triangle once, pausing correctly, but then the main movie clip (target_mc) stops in the original position and never moves again.
Code:

import fl.transitions.easing.*;

var yMove0:Tween;
var xMove1:Tween;
