I'm attaching some label components dynamically using attachMovie(); and I'm finding that I can't assign text to the label fields at the same time - the text won't show up because the components are slow to initialize. I want to avoid spreading actionscript across frames. Is there any way to add an event listener for initialization?[code]
View 1 RepliesWhat I need to do is assign 5 separate dynamic text fields to 5 seperate buttons and at the same time to those same five buttons i would like to add 5 images that i would be able to change merely by swapping out the images in the file theyre in on the server.I would also like to get a nice transition between the images...ALSO i want to dynamically load the images for the buttons that will be used for switching from picture to picture(which im thinking i will be able to do after i know the how to do point the aforementioned things.)
Through tutorials I've found around the net I've been able to get most of the parts together... but i get lost because what they show you for AS2 they don't for AS3 and vice versa, at least that ive seen.so... I guess my question is... would i need to set up 5 seperate dynamic text fields on the stage and then set each one of them to one of the corresponding button. If so what AS code would i need to use to do so. And if not what would i need to do?
The other part of the question would be I know about the UILoader... would i be able to use it as my buttons and images, if so would i need 5 seperate ui loaders for both the Thumbnail buttons and the images or is there a way that would be better to do it? and once i do that would i do the transitions using frames and tweens like with AS2?

I've seen similar threads but couldn't find one with the exact same issue. I've a PDF / Word document with arabic copy when I try pasting that text in flash all the joined letters start appearing as individual letters.I've tried the dynamic text box solution in which you create a dynamic text box and assign the text to its variable that doesn't work. But strangely when you write arabic in dynamic text box (with out assigning the text to the variable) and double click to select the text box and its content the text starts appearing fine .. but when published its again all individual letter.

I've tried setting up the TextFormat and createTextField as a function that's called on the onRelease handler. I've tried dropping the whole frackin' code in the onRelease function for each button. Neither approach works. I've been digging around on the web, looking for answers, and nothing seems to solve my problem.
I have a code that creates 10 dynamic text fields, along the "y" axis, based on a loop.
What I want to happen is, for each text field that is created, i want the numbers to constantly change based on a timer (they'll all change at the same time, but to random numbers).
Right now, the code below changes the numbers, but keeps stacking the new numbers on top of the old...

Basically I want to get the text fields in my Flash translated. To achieve this, I have the translations in a XML file and all text fields are dynamic. I read the XML (dependent on a language calling parameter from the HTML) and set the text fields like:
this["text_1"].text = "Hello";
The "text_1" and "Hello" are of course retrieved from the XML and I use variables in my code.
Now to the problem: I can successfully set the text field, that is visible in the Frame 1 (where my script is executed), but setting text fields that appear later give me an error. Translated it means something like Null Pointer not accessible. So I assume, that the this["text_x"] can not be found.
Is there a way to access it without copying the script into each text element? I have also thought about events, e.g. when the text is shown the first time and I do the translation then (would have to cache the XML at startup then to save time), but didn't find anything.

I have a linked movieclip that contains two textfields.One of the textfields needs to have regular and bold text, so I thought I would use htmlText however it's only showing the regular font that I embedded?I made the textfield in Flash and called it "details".I also tried to make another textField in the symbol called, "invisi" and I set it not visible:invisi.visible = false;I embedded the BOLD version of the font in the invisi textfield, hoping this would make the "details" text field show the bold font...but no luck.

my client reports to me that some of the text is being clipped off in the text fields. I try to recreate the problem on my pc with chrome and firefox, but everything works fine. But he sends me screenshots from his mac with firefox, and sure enough they are being clipped. He claims its only fire-fox, and it is not a factor of window size. so here are the images to show whats going on:

i've tried using createTextField() but you can only make 1 textfield if you give it a different instance name everytime you then should be able to make more but they just disappear.
I'm trying to populate a set of dynamic text fields with text using a for() loop and cant seem to get it to work.I have 9 seperate dynamic text boxes each labled picNum0 - picNum8. I want to read a number of pictures from an external file then have those numbers populate 1 through 9 into the text fields.I get the variables loaded in with the correct values but the text fields wont populate.[code]When I trace(curPic) inside the for(){} it outputs: picNum0 - picNum8, so I know that the variables are allocating ok, but dynamic text fields arent populating with the correct numbers.

I got 1 button.A movie with containts 3 graphics , graph1 , graph2 , graph3 Each graphic contains a Dynamic Text field. I want to make some buttons and use the buttons.fla library. The button is inserted and given an instance name. A second button is inserted (same kind) and given a new instance name. But when I am trying to change the label text in one of my buttons the text is changing on the other button as well. I believed they where separate instances?

How do i deselect theselected text and retain the text without selection? When you select text in a Text or Label or TextArea (or other) control in a Flex application, the selection is shown in white text on a black background. Always.

I created an input text box. But when i try to go and click on the "variable" option to assign a variable i get this error: "This feature is not supported by ActionScript 3.0. To use this feature, you must target ActionScript 1.0-2.0." How can i do that? By the way, the variable textbox where you need to enter the variable name is gray. I can't write in it. Flex's text-editing controls (mx:TextField, mx:TextArea) offer functions for doing "stuff" with the selected text (selectionBeginIndex, selectionEndIndex, setSelection), but the text-displaying controls (mx:Label, mx:Text) don't seem to offer anything of the sort.After some tinkering, I've tried subclassing Label then writing functions which give access to the underlying TextField instance... But even then, setting the selection didn't work![code]So, is there any better way to access/change the text which is selected in mx:Label and mx:Text controls? Are there "better" controls to use?
