I can't get my head around how to format the xml or how to code the flash file to sort according to location name alphabetically and then press a button that will sort it by category 1st and second by name alphabetically.
Should I format the xml like this:

I'm trying to load an XML file from the internet in a CD-ROM flash application and seem to be getting nowhere. The XML object needs to retrieve the results of a PHP script with 2 variables. The first being T (territory), and the second TYPE (type). The TYPE variable is currently fixed. In this situation, we will consider its value: 'bsc'. I have tried an on(change) handler on the ComboBox, and gotten it to at least produce the correct URL with both GET variables, but the XML object refuses to load.
I have tried using trace() outputs, the debugger, and every permutation of my code I can think of ... but with no results. I do know that my PHP code is working properly, and IS generating the output I exactly expect. What am I doing wrong, is there an access restriction between a local Flash file and the internet?

It's a very useful component and works very well.
Now, I need to set the text property of this combo box upon application startup with certain values (which are defined dynamically according to some criteria). The problem is that although I have no problem setting the text property of the combo box at other times of the application run, setting the property at startup seems to have no effect unfortunately.
For example, I want to set the text property of the combobox to "Bob" (which is one of the items in the dataprovider for the combobox) and the "set text" method is called on the combo box. Performing a step-through shows that the "set text" method is receiving the correct value item but not setting the _text property.
I have tried not doing anything until "ApplicationComplete" but no joy there either.
Here is the code (a combination of the code from the URL above and some other changes to it). However, as I've stated above, the codes does work. The problem is that it doesn't work at the application startup. Whenever an event is fired and setComboText is called as a result, the text of the combo box is set correctly.

I'm trying to use a listbox to instantiate a class. "SEA30_05_215_Single_Classroom" is a class that is loaded in using another function just fine. When I attempt to use the function below I get an error that says "Instantiation attempted on a non-constructor."Any ideas how to either fix the error or do it a different way? View 2 RepliesI'm trying to set a specific list item in a mx combobox to have a custom item renderer, the problem is that I cannot do this via mxml, it needs to be done via actionscript at a later stage, eg: combobox gets created, combobox gets populated, user does other tasks, combobox needs to set one or more items in the combobox to have icons (via item renderer)..
I can do this via the onChange event, but it only applies the icon when the combobox is opened and there is a slight delay so you can see the icon being added.
How can I validate there's a selected item in a ComboBox before saving? If there's no selected item, how can I set focus on the ComboBox?

View 1 RepliesI have an AIR app that gets bundled with XML files that the app needs. These get put into the APP Storage Directory, of course. Works great. But when I install a new version ( which includes new XML files) , the new files don't get added or overwrite the ones from the previous version. It seems that if that directory is there from a previous install, the installer will ignore the part where it moves included files.

I need to make my Flash application create a connection to a remote application and have the remote application send periodic updates to my Flash animation. The remote app is written in VB 6, and does not support XML sockets. However, I don't need the ability to send or receive XML since I am going to be overriding the onLoad() event anyway.
Or maybe I do need that ability... I'm having trouble getting my onLoad() event to trigger. Right now I'm just testing the onLoad event like this:

So, basically I'm trying to find out how I can format the data I'm sending it so that the onLoad() event triggers. I've read that the XMLSocket object listens for the Null byte, so perhaps the data I'm sending it doesn't terminate properly. I need a persistent connection from Flash to the VB app because the VB app will be the one initiating the updates to the Flash application. Is the XMLSocket the way to go here, or is there another class of objects that I'm missing?
Is there any application which can relay another application on Flash Media server? For exmaple I have a "live" application on the server. I want another application, "liverelay" which can basically relay what is coming on the "live" application. Is it possible? If so how can I implement it? Looking forward to a response.

Do you know is it possible to start iPad application from another application that is developed in Flash? I need to create small iPad app with two buttons (and some graphics/animation) in Flash. Clicking on those buttons, another iPad application should be started. My guess is that will use ExternallInterface, but I don't know what to send :)

I've been going crazy trying to figure out a couple things, spent the last few days scouring the forums and my understanding of actionscript and php aren't advanced enough to understand what I need to do.I have a very basic contact form (one I've successfully used before) that I thought I would adapt for a new project (to include a couple listboxes).In Flash, visitors enter name and contact info, then we want a listbox for them to select an event on a specific day, then another one that they select a time (both listboxes will be populated within flash, so no dynamic loading).
They hit Submit and the form information is sent to our email address using php.The first difficulty I had was how to capture the selection of the listbox. I don't know much about actionscript, but I thought that would be pretty straight forward and was hoping I'd find something in the community to keep it simple for people like me.
