ActionScript 3.0 :: Dynamically Creating TextFields - BottomScrollV And TextFieldAuto-Size?

Jun 26, 2009

I'm currently creating an app which allows users to select blocks of text from a List and dynamically create a TextField on the stage.I'm calculating the height of the TextField and positioning the next TextField beneath.I'm also recording the total heights of the TextFields so that I know when the total height exceeds the available height, at which point I move the x position and reset to y position to zero.When the next TextField will exceed the available height I want to split it into two, so I'm calculating the remaining height, making the TextField.height into the remaining height.

My problem arrives when I try to get the position of the last visible line.If I have the TextFieldAutoSize as LEFT, then I can dynamically generate the heights of the TextFields.For the final TextField in the column I need to set TextFieldAutoSize to NONE so I can change the height of the TextField. i.e. I don't want it to autosize.However, bottomScrollV returns the total number of lines, not the last visible line.I'm at a loss. I can create the required behaviour in a separate doc but when I copy the code into the loop it fails.Here is the code.

Code:
public function buildTextFields() {
// 3 columns (I'm calling them TextBlocks)

ActionScript 2.0 :: Loading Data From An Xml-file And Dynamically Create Movieclips With Textfields Inside Of Them Return "undefined"?

i'm loading some data from an xml-file and dynamically create movieclips with textfields inside of them, but I'm kinda stuck. I'm not up to the point where I completely understand how you can refer to a nested object using this syntax: _root[movieClipName]. If you want to nest something inside of that movieclip, you have to work like this:

ActionScript 3.0 :: Dynamically Creating & Removing Movieclips?

Dec 16, 2009

Alright, So i have a function which generates alot of the same MovieClip on the stage, however i need to be able to both Hitcheck this MovieClips and Remove them in other functions, so somehow ( what i have attempted here and isn't quite working yet :confused: ) is putting each MovieClip in an array slot, so if you needed to remove them it would be as simple as a For Loop to run through the Array.
Also, when i hittest them, optimally since they are all in an array, i could just reference them via MovieClip.Hittest (movieClipArray[i]) i being the instance to remove.

Background for the project, adding and removing colored MovieClips Which are all systematically distributed on the stage. When the player Pushes the # Keys color it would run the construct function creating the MovieClips on screen. After that if the player hit the same color key again, before generating a new layout it will remove the previous first.

Also a key is to be able to hittest the colors against other MovieClips on stage so it needs to be linkable. Right now im attempting that by containing all my generated colors in

ActionScript Code:
"ColorContainer"

Currently my color Remove Function has Children Being removing which aren't referenced to the Array, i realize this... But want to get the generation of the Array down before i start cutting away at it.

Here is the code i have so far: For some reason i keep getting:

ActionScript Code:
TypeError: Error #1007: Instantiation attempted on a non-constructor.
at ColorantConfusion_Current_fla::MainTimeline/frame1()

ActionScript 3.0 :: MovieClips - Creating Custom EventListeners Dynamically

Nov 14, 2009

I'm trying to create a series of scripts that will create some custom event listeners. I have three movie clips on my stage. One is a movieclip who's sole function is to hold array's and the event listeners. A second which moves around the screen. And a third that is motionless. The problem is that the argument I want to test (which activates the custom event) is held within a string. What I want to know is, how do you test to see if the string argument is true?

Is it something similar to this:
var myCode:String="1<0";
if(myCode){
trace('one is smaller than 0'); //Strangely apparently one IS smaller than 0!!!
}

I think I'm going about this in the wrong manner, however this is the only way I can think of this working... (since I need to be able to dynamically create these events).

ActionScript 3.0 :: Dynamically Creating And Adding Movieclips To Stage In 'for Each' Loop

Dec 2, 2009

I am reading in collection objects from an XML file. Each collection has an img field that stores a URL to the collection image. So I am trying to load the images of each collection, storing each image in a MovieClip, and add these MovieClips to the stage. However, my problem is that after adding a MovieClip (with the collection image) to the stage, when a new MovieClip is created in my 'for each' loop it overrites the previous MovieClip. So the images I am adding to the stage are being replaced by the following collection's image on each loop iteration. What can I do to avoid this?

Here is my code...

var collXML:XML = IXml(assets.collections).xml;
var collNodes:XMLList = collXML.children();

ActionScript 3.0 :: Creating Instance Names For Dynamically Created Movieclips?

May 28, 2011

I am trying to use a for loop, to place 5 instances of the same movieclip on the stage. In the loop I used .name to give each movieclip a unique instance name. But when I try to reference one of those instance names in an event listener I get an error. Here is an example of what I am trying to do:

Quote:

var xPos:int = 120;
var yPos:int = 60;
for (var i:Number = 1; i<=5; i++) {

[Code].....

This code generates an error saying that the cStar2 property is undefined. In the example above, does the for loop create 5 copies of the movieclip starC_moov, and give them unique instance names cStar1, cStar2, cStar3, cStar4 and cStar5?

We've also done that to the main timeline as well. Is this still needed for performance reasons? Is this needed for dynamically created movieclips? I know that the Sprite class should be used if there is no timeline associated with it.

Flash :: Can't Interact With Textfields And Movieclips?

Aug 22, 2011

I have a movieclip on stage: I load inside it a form (via addChild). The form is made of textfields and movieclips and it is contained in a library object of MyForm class, extending MovieClip. So I have:

var myForm:MyForm = new MyForm();
myClip.addChild(myForm);

What happens: the MyForm class lets me interact with textfields (if I change a value of a textfield I can see it very clearly). But I can't manually reach the input textfields and the buttons (they don't respont to pressure, and I can't modify their content in the case of textfields). There seems to be something related to the fact that MyForm is contained inside myClip because if I load the form without the myClip container anything works again. I tried to use mouseChildren and mouseEnabled on myClip but it doesn't work.

Actionscript 3.0 :: Loading Textfields Into Movieclips?

May 23, 2009

I have created a content navigation system using xml. On the left there are a list of items and when you click on them their descriptions load on the right. I've gotten most everything working, however the list of items (which you click on) is messing up my formatting scheme creating a run-on page. Since the items are loaded using a for var i++ method, they each been created in separate textfields. I was thinking there must be a way to load them all into a movieclip and then create a scrollbar for the movieclip itself so that the user doesn't have to scroll the entire page to view the items.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Create Various MovieClips With TextFields?

I create various movieClips with TextFields in them using the following function.

function AddLabel(Label,L) // create a MovieClip with a Text Field.
{
obj = this.createEmptyMovieClip("mc" + L,L);[code].....

Lets say that I use the above function with the following statement:

JimMC = AddLabel("JimVision",1);

Then I try to assign a string to the above movieClip with some embedded html like so:

JimMC.txt.htmlText = "This is my test < a href='http://bogus.com'>link</ a>.";

When I try to run the above the results come out blank. When I list my variables I do see that my TextField is being assign the text and html code. What I also notice is that the textWidth and textHeight value become zero.why my results are blank? Why do the textWidth and textHeight values become zero?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Creating Several TextFields With Recursion?

May 4, 2004

Im trying to create several TextFields using function recursion.

arr_HelpRubrik = new Array();
arr_HelpRubrik = [1, 2, 3, 4];
var x_pos = 10;

[Code]....

What it does is look for the existence of a textfile (HELP_i.txt) and if it exists, create a TextField into which it is supposed to output the contents of that file. So Im supposed to have as many textfrelds as there are textfiles in the end, all situated in a kolumn.

Well, what actually happens is that every textfield is correctly created, but will close as soon as the next one is created. So I end up with only one textfield.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Creating Unique TextFields In A For Loop?

Oct 28, 2008

I have a for loop that runs depending on the length of an XML file. What I want to do is create a unique text field for each run through of the loop, and give it it's own position on the stage, and finally assign it the text from an external text file that is specified in the XML file. Everything I know how to do except creating the textfields.

Quote:

for(var i:int = 0; i < blogXMLList.length(); i++)
{
var txtHolder:TextField = new TextField();
txtHolder.x = textX;

[Code].....

This code creates only one Text Field, but then replaces it's text with new text with each run through.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Garbage Collector Is Not Removing Movieclips That Have Textfields Set To TLF

Looks like the garbage collector is not removing movieclips that have textfields set to TLF. I'm using Flash Builder's profile inspector and TLF brings in a bunch of objects and prevents the clip from being removed by the garbage collector (including all the objects that TLF put in memory). How could Adobe release CS5 with such a crappy implementation of text? If there is no solution I will have to avoid using TLF text for all my projects.

leaderItem.lblRank.text = "2nd";
addChild(leaderItem);

Php :: Dynamically Populating Textfields In Flashbuilder?

Jul 13, 2010

I'm trying to wrap my brain around getting data into my project in a way that I can use.. I want to use MySQL & PHP my Flashbuilder app and I'm not populating a datagrid so......

For simplicities sake, In my database table I have 3 columns "ID, Title & Content". I want to use this to populate the different states in my flashbuilder project.

Normally in a web page I could say in the sql statement "SELECT * FROM table WHERE ID = 1" to get the first row of info and I could put my Title and Content where I want them on my page I can change the query to "SELECT * FROM table WHERE ID = 2" to populate page 2 to get it's title and content.

In flashbuilder it all on the same page and I'm not understanding how to populate a singular text field for a title or content area with a single field from the database.
