ActionScript 2.0 :: [flash] Completely Delete OnPress Event?
Jul 17, 2007
I'd like to completely erase an onPress = function() statement.delete movieclip.onPress... and it works because no actions happens when I press that movieclip. But the problem is there's still an on press statement but empty, and I can't make any onpress on the inside movieclips.BTW I still see the hand after using delete mc.onPress even if there are no actions assigned to that event.

All of the bullets are of the "Bullet" class and are stored in an array called "bullets" in the main class. When bullets exit the screen, removeBullet(bulletID) in the main class is called.
private function removeBullet(id:int)
{
removeChild(bullets[id]);
bullets.splice(id);
}
In my Bullet class I have an enterFrame listener that traces "stillHere". So as soon as a bullet is added to the main stage using addChild, "stillHere" starts popping up in my output panel.
My problem is that even after I call the removeBullet, "stillHere" keeps popping up in the output panel, which tells me that the object which I tried to delete is still sticking around somewhere in the memory.

I have created different buttons on different movieclip. Then i assigned onPress event on each buttons. But the function of onPress event is not triggered. The arrangement of movieclips is following.
var mainMC:MovieClip = _root.createEmptyMovieClip("mainMC",0);
mainMC._alpha = 0;
var adImgMC:MovieClip = mainMC.createEmptyMovieClip("adImgMC",0);
var offerMC:MovieClip = mainMC.createEmptyMovieClip("offerMC",1);
var offerList:MovieClip = offerMC.createEmptyMovieClip("offerList",0);
[Code] .....
I have created an event as follows:
offerList.onRollOver = function(){
offerList.stopTween();
clearInterval(autoScrlTimer);
} offerList.onRollOut = function(){
duration = 0;
autoScrlTimer = setInterval(automaticScroll,duration);
ovrFlag = true
}
I doubt that the onPress event is not working because of the above piece of code.

I have run into an issue where when you use the onPress function, it won't register the second onPress event if the mouse doesn't move and the user clicks the same pixel. I have to use onPress, and am wondering if there is a way around this. It is just a little annoying that I have to move my mouse to have it catch that second onPress..

I'm looking for a solution to the following problem and I'm not sure if this is possible to do with Umbraco.We have a Flash movie which will read in images/paths to images and an accompanying title via XML and we need to be able to manage these through Umbraco.Is it possible to program an event for when an image is uploaded or removed from this specific folder so that it makes changes to the XML file and so it adds or removes the corresponding data?

I have a scrollBar movieClip inside an interface that is not always responding to the onPress event. Sometimes, it works fine, and sometimes I have to roll off of the scrollBarMC for the cursor to change back to the finger and respond to the onPress event. Other times, it responds more than once to the event on just one click.
I realize that there could be other issues within my interface's code, however, when I trace my function calls they seems to not execute or execute more than once. Has anyone else ever run across such an issue with the movieClip.onPress event? Below is the code for the scrollBar mc. Anyone see something glaring?

I have a set of 5 text buttons that I want to alter slightly with actionscript. An OnClip event moves the 5 text buttons onto the screen, then each button has a stop action as well as an OnPress/OnRelease that rotates it from black text to blue text and rolls back to black text again. I just need it to be black text to blue and stop when the viewer clicks the link to go to an HTML page.
How would you code it so that the text button rolls from black to blue and stays BLUE for the selected HTML page as long as the user is on it, letting them know where they are in the site's navigation. The sample code from button 1 is below:

I am implementing a flex auto-suggest combobox - as the user types in each character: Consider the string 'Stackoverflow' and user input = 'st'
1) the data provider is filtered to show all items starting with 'st'
2) text is set to auto-suggest string such that the un-typed part is highlighted.
So for instance, the combobox text may contain st'ackoverflow', where 'ackoverflow' is highlighted using setSelectedIndex()When I hit back-space or delete, and check the 'this.text' value, I expect that the last un-highlighted character ('t' in the above case) gets deleted and the data provider is filtered to show all items starting with 's'. However the text property contains 'st', as before

First, click on the Abaco island shape on the map. You'll see on rollOver there is a glow around the island. Now click on that island and the glow remains for the zoomed-in detailed view. When you return to map and zoom back out, the glow is removed.
Now, compare this with clicking on the island name "Abaco" from the list on the right, instead of clicking directly on the island from the map. It zooms in and shows the details fine, but the glow that should be there is not.
The reason this problem is very perplexing for me, is that the onPress action of the list button in the right column calls the onPress function of the map button. So, theoretically they should do the EXACT same thing when pushed. But clearly they don't.
Here is the code for the button from the list on the right panel:
Code:
listAbaco_mc.onRollOver = function() {
_root.map_mc.abaco_mc.button_btn.onRollOver();
};
[Code]....
There is more code, for example rollOver, rollOut, and Press actions for the other island buttons, but they are all of the exact same format as the Abaco island button and they all have the same problem.
So, to recap, the problem is that the list button in the right panel do not function properly onPress, even though they are calling the onPress function of the island buttons directly, and the island button onPress function works perfectly. Strangely, all but one little thing works. So it's obviously getting to the correct functions and going through the code as planned, yet that one part about the glow is being ignored or otherwise messed up.

At the moment I create an onEnterFrame function to ease a movie clip into view. I then delete it. I want to be able to recreate a similar onEnter Frame function later to swoosh the movie clip out of view. At the moment weird things happen when I try and do the second onEnterFrame.I know I could put this all in the original onEnterFrame, but I don't wanna be wasting processor time doing an if statement every frame to work out if it's time to swoosh out the movieclip. Or should I not worry because that's negligible cpu time?

I'm trying to make an onPress function for a MC inside a MC and I have figured it will look something like this:
_root.mc1.mc2.onPress = function(){}
It won't work though. What to do? (Now I see, I have that mc2 on the 2nd frame inside mc1... if I put it also on the first frame it works fine, but I don't want it on the first frame).

I've programmed an entire game from scratch, without using class files, and there's no menu yet, and I'm not sure how to reset the game without using class files or resetting every single thing manually.
I'm making a Flash tower defense game with a friend; I'm doing all the code. I'd never used Flash or Actionscript before, so I started off directly programming the gameplay, to figure out if I'd be able to do it. I've done everything from scratch so I didn't know where to start or the "right way" of doing anything, so I figured out as I went along, which went much better than I expected.
So now I've got the gameplay almost completely programmed, the art assets are essentially finished and game looks great and runs (reasonably) well (and the occasional performance problems are due to graphics rather than code), etc. I didn't know how to use class files in AS3 when I started making the game, and when I read up on them and realized you can't import the class files into the project and must open and edit them separately, I was livid and decided not to use them; I was happy with how the coding was going anyway.
So now we've got a game where as soon as you run it, it goes straight to the field and the game starts; we haven't implemented a menu yet. We've reached the point of playtesting and it's becoming a huge nuisance having to quit the SWF and reopen or recompile it every time we want to restart the game, so it's time to program a "Reset" button. I thought this would be as simple as making the stage go to a different frame and back to the first frame, but that doesn't work, so now I'm utterly stuck. It looks like the easiest way to reset a game is to load the entire "game" as an object (or something to that effect, I forget exactly what I've read), then you can unload and reload the game object to reset it? It also looked like it would require class files which I'm hoping to avoid.
I don't think it's feasible to manually remove everything from the stage, reset all the variables, and delete all event listeners and references so everything is reset/garbage collected properly.
Thinking about it more, I'm also not sure how I'm going to get a menu to load before the game in its current state. Maybe I can move all of the gameplay to the second frame and make the menu on the first frame?So, is it possible to reset the game without involving class files?
