I'm relatively new to Flash and AS3. I've created a website thats a dynamic photo gallery. The site is self-contained (no scrolbars) and I want the frame work of the gallery to draw itself in as the page loads. The frame work is just simple lines and drawing objects on the maintimeline. Do i combine the lines (the "frame work") into a mc and then somehow use the deco tool? How can I acheive this in action script?

View 3 RepliesI am making a quiz/game, and it works like this, two teams that have to take over the united states, by answering history questions, so right now I have it were when you click on a state, it takes you to a question (on a different frame in the main timeline), then I have a problem, if you get the question right it takes you to the "board" of the United States (that works), but when you are back the color of the state should change its color to red (on frame of the clip) if south got it and blue (another frame of the clip) if north got itBut instead i changes back to grey (default color, all start grey to begin with). I don't and can't seem to figure this out
View 2 RepliesI've been following the book "Beggining Flash Programing for Dummies" and I have come up to a part where I create a very simple game.
The script involved in the frames are FRAME here:

When I test the movie and click the button, the frames don't seem to change.
I got a MovieClip filled with a lot of others clips... When I change de X or Y value of this first MovieClip the frame rate slows down for during 1 frame. For exemple... I created a counter that returns around 30 mseconds every frame, but when I do this X or Y change the return is around 400 mseconds... When I try to fill the first MovieClip with less information it goes faster, about 100+-200 mseconds...

For some reason my buttons don't work when I stop on frame 34. Everything else works, but when I stop on 34 the button/actions won't work anymore. I have no idea why. I checked everything that I can think of. The buttons are labeled correctly on the frame.

I have made a new website flash file, with Website.as as document class, that creates movie clip from the library and align them to the center of the screen. Which are:
footer (linkage Footer class)
mainContent (linkage MainContent class)
I now need to insert a preloader in frame1, so I have checked Export classes in frame 2...but then nothing works anymore. (I do not see any movie clip being created.) I tried to import Website.as in frame 2 instead of setting it as Document class, but still it will not work...
I'm making an app in flash as3, but there is a bug in my code. (i guess)
-I can go from frame 1 --> frame 2
-I can go from frame 2 --> frame 3
If i try to go from, let's say frame 3 --> 2, I get this message:TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.Why cant I go to a previous frame on my timeline?

My goal is to make these work in other frames when a player click on a movieclip which takes him to another frame with the same instances. The only one that works is the McCard which is draggable. How can I make them work the same as frame 1? I don't have to repeat the same code over and over again for each frame for them to work right?
Why with AS3 when i create button with gotoAndPlay(2); in movie with 2 frames it does not work? Its because its last frame. What would be work around?

I have a MC on my stage that has 2 buttons nested inside. So, the problem is that I have a stop(); actions on the first frame ( first frame is blank ) and I only play the movie once someone rolled over another button outside this MC. Because I'm giving the instructions to my buttons from the timeline. I have all the code on a frame and am calling the buttons from there but it seems that the buttons won't work properly if they are not placed on the first frame.
Example:
_root.myMC.otherMC.myButton.onRelease = function(){
getURL("[URL]","_self");
}
That simple thing won't work if the button are placed the way they are now, it seems that flash can see the button only if they are at frame 1... and no, I don't want to put the code directly on the button, I want to make it work this way.
I don't know what's going on here. I have some onRelease functions on movieclips that work fine. However one of them takes the user to a contact form in another frame but after selecting another button to go back to the first frame of the movieclip none of the functions work again.Here's a link to my swf so you can see what I mean:

I'm thinking because the actionscript is located in the _root of the whole .fla and all the action is happening in the img movieclip that something is off.
I have an animation that has mask in it. I'm using actionscript to set the mask.The problem I am having is all the mask after frame 1 doesn't work. When I trace the movie clip name it says null. I know it's because flash can't access movie clip's name because hasn't loaded yet.I have the AS in a .as. I have tried putting the as on the first frame, same thing.
View 1 RepliesI hava a project in flashdevelop 4.0 and I used flex sdk 4.0.
Although I add support for FP 11 in flex config file and also in project settings and compiler options, I still get my project stated after comiplation in FP 10 not FP 11. (I uninstalled FP 10 with adobe unninstaller).
And also when I embed the swf in html page with swfobject I keep getting that I need to install FP 11 which is already installed.
So I am asking is it neccesary to migrate to flex sdk 4.5 in order to use FP 11?
If this is not a programming question than move it, but I dont know where to place it elsewhere.
i'm trying to learn about clases, and i tried to make an easy XML loader, but i gotta a problem with the attributes that doen't take the value i provide with the att variable. it shows me on the trace statement like undefined, and for example if i change the atrribute instead of being dynamic, to be static, it does work.

I downloaded this free flash website template for building my website, all the actionscript in the template in AS3, i tried using xml flash - photogallery (for which i found the tutorial on this website.) in my website, but while publishing the site, it gives error, i guess it might be compatibility issue as the script that i found on the website might be in AS2 and that might be clashing with AS3 script of the template. Coz when i change the publish setting to AS2, the AS3 part of the script does not work. Individually both script in their respective separate files work but when combined together the site goes bonkers. as i want the photogallery part exactly as it is shown on this site which is with the thumbnail preview.
View 1 Repliesi have a button instance, within a movie clip within a scene. i can not get the gotoAndStop on a frame label within the scene to work. I CAN however get the gotoAndPlay code to work (which defeats the purpose).

In the first frame of that movieclip, I'm importing an external swf with Loader class,(Using actionscript2 but my main flash page using Actionscript3),It is loading well but when i pass to second frame and return to the first frame again, the Loader doesn't work. (i'm using addChild(); to show external swf)

If I move a display object and use hitTestPoint afterward on the same frame against a point within the object's new shape bounds, I get false no matter what. On the following frame I get true like I should. If I then move the object away and in the same frame hitTestPoint against a point which is NO LONGER in the current shape (since it moved) but WAS in the shape on the previous frame, I sometimes get true and sometimes get false. This seems totally screwed up. Am I going mad? I've tried the move and hitTestPoint in both mouse handles and enterFrame handlers, but enterFrame handler is the only one I really care about at the moment.
Check out the following code; click to define a new position for the large object, then in the next entetFrame event it will move it and perform hitTestPoint -- object turns orange when hitTestPoint is true. You should see the same weird behavior described above.

how do I get arguments to work with Enter frame event in as3?
I have 5 overlapping tab buttons and when each is clicked, it calls to a specific frame. The tabs are assigned to a specific frame so that when the timeline jumps to the assigned frame, the tab clicked appears on top of the other tabs. My code below works, but only once. If I click a tab and then try to click a previous tab, nothing happens.
FYI: My 5 tab names are: rotating_globe, company_tab_mc, newproducts_tab_mc, applications_tab_mc and tradeshows_tab_mc
There's also a 'back_home_btn' that appears on the stage when user is not clicked on the 'rotating_globe' tab (the 'rotating_globe' tab is my default home button)

I have button rollovers, that when at 40fps looks really nice, but when i change the timeline to 24fps, it looks terrible.
What is the best way to change my frame rate of my rollver_MC to fps while leaving the entire fla to 24 fps in AS 3.0
I have a movieclip with 3 frames. each frame has a button on it. Using actionscript I jump to a frame then add an event listener to that button.However, it doesn't work since the playhead for that movieclip doesn't actually get moved to a different frame until the frame redraws. So actionscript says the button doesn't exist.(other than not dynamically adding the buttons with code... which will be my next step...)

I just started using flash and Im hoping someone with more experience can help me out. When I add the stop code to frame one to stop the timeline on my homepage, the buttons Ive set up in my navigation bar do not work. But, if I do not have the stop code in the timeline, the buttons will work correctly. Without the stop code, though, obviously the whole timeline plays through and doesn't stop on the homepage, which is not desirable. So how do I stop the timeline on the homepage and still have my buttons work?
