ActionScript 2.0 :: Pause Animation On Mouse Over?
Feb 5, 2008
I would like a button on a keyframe mid-animation to stop the timeline if the mouse is over it and when the mouse rolls out of the button it continues to play. Is there a method like this that will work?:
if(MOUSE_OVER.btn_hold){
then stop();
} else if(MOUSE_OUT.btn_hold){

Im an Industrial Design student that has never really used any Flash before but need to use it now to mock up an interface design for a product/service I'm developing for my major project.
So far, in ActionScript 2.0, I have a picture of a TV and remote control and intend to design the interface over the top of the television picture and highlight buttons on the remote beside it, that the moderator can click to navigate around it.
To get across the idea that the interface pops up over the existing moving television picture I have imported an FLV of some television ads. My problem is that I want the Flash animation (everything but the FLV if you like) to pause and not loop, and the FLV to continue playing (and looping) in the background, but can't figure out how to do it. Ideally the FLV needs to continue playing, seamlessly behind the interface after the next button is clicked etc.
Wherever I seem to put a stop(); action it'll stop everything, including the FLV, and if I just extend the timeframe to the length of the video, it'll still stop at the end or just loop to the beginning of the entire SWF.

I have a very very simple flash animation put together, and I believe I set the document up in actionscript 3.0.
There is 4 layers currently: 1: a background, 2: a border, 3: a transparent png, 4: several images that run through a classic tween to make a scrolling effect.
Besides the tween, there is nothing else running and the tween is just taking some images in a straight line.
Is there an easy way to have it so that when someone puts their mouse over the flash in any location that it pauses on that frame and when they remove their mouse it will continue from that location?

I'm creating a simple image slideshow gallery where the images are presented one after the other in -fade-in - fade-out animation. I'm looking for a 'smart' way of delaying/pausing the slide show at the peak of the image brightness. I've found several codes however, they messed up the function of the PAUSE, NEXT and BACK buttons. Pause button would pause on an image, however the delay timer would start counting once again and the animation continues.

I am trying to set up a presentation with small clips (pictures that fade in and out) but I need to insert pause so I can provide some explanations to the public. I create a button and inserted an action (stop) on a specific frame, then on click, the timeline move on to the next frame and the animation starts again.This works well. this is the code snippets I used

I have tried to figure out how to get an animation to pause at a desired frame after a click rather than just stopping it at that exact frame or putting a stop action at the desired frame. My goal is to have a movie sequence play continuesly and when a user so desires he/she can click and stop the movie, but rather than stop it while it is in transition at that exact frame, the movie should continue to a point where it is logical for the movie to stop.(example: the movie is at frame 2 when the user clicks, but instead of stopping at frame 2 it continues to frame 10, and then stops) Then on another click the movie will continue through it's sequence as it was before. I would like to use a MC, onClipEvent to handle the script in Flash MX.

I have a movie clip I am using as a button (instance name btn1) and I added an event listener to it (using the following line): btn1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, animate1); the function "animate1" triggers some small animation when the mouse is over the movieclip. my problem is that the animation is triggered both on mouse over and mouse out events.

I'm having difficulty adding a Play/Pause button to an FLA animation that I've created. The animation is a frame-by-frame clip with motion tweens (rather than an FLV file). I'd like the Play/Pause button to toggle between a PLAY state and a PAUSE state depending on whether the animation is already playing or paused. (It will automatically play when the user begins viewing it, so the first button state should be at PAUSE.)
I've sucessfully created the button (actually as a movie clip with the two states). I've also got the button to pause and play the animation--but I'm unable to get the button (movie clip that is) to actually toggle between the two states. Can anyone tell me a good script to use for this type of control?

I started some days ago with Adobe Flash CS4, and I need to create buttons now. The button I want to create this time should be a frame by frame button, so when the user clicks 1 time on the button the animation needs to go 1 frame further and pause there.
This is what I coded so far:
nextframeknop_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, nextframeClick);
function nextframeClick(event:MouseEvent):void{
play();
stop();
}
And I assume I need to create some kind of time interval of 1 frame between the "play();" and the "stop();".

My final goal would be to have the animation pause after the first click, then resume with the next click and so on.So, after successfully having started the animation on I tried adding a
this.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,stopF);
function stopF(e:MouseEvent):void{
this.stop();

I have been having trouble with the timer, knowing how to plug into the scripts/Functions the correct way. Below is the script (probably not written as efficently as it could be, but I'm trying) Anyway, the script is uses simple tweens for a movieclip. I would like to use the timer/setinterval function to pause the animation between tweens (Using the event listener after the tween stops to start the interval/pause) Is this the right concept or am I barking up the wrong tree.

I have found a generic recursive loop that stops/pauses all child movieclips. If I change stop to play in the code, it plays all child movieclips simultaneously. I want it to resume only one animation at a time. I want a generic recursive loop that resumes animation from last position (position it was paused) irrespective of whether I have paused on the main timeline animation or animations within child movieclips or animations within grandchild movieclips. (I have animations on main timeline, animations within lastFrame MC of maintimeline, and again within last frame MC of child's timeline).[code]...

I have a movie clip working where on rollover it sends it to scene 2 to play an animation but I don't know how to bring it back to scene one once you roll off of the clip. I have so far:
R1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, do1);
function do1(event:MouseEvent):void
{
gotoAndPlay(2)
stop();
}
what needs to be added to send it back to scene 1 after you MOUSE_OUT?

I am trying to put together some games for my students to help them with their English. I want to be able to detect how long they spend on each game and so I want the clock to stop if the mouse is inactive for 45 seconds and then restart when they begin moving the mouse again. This is so the parents can see how long their kids' have been studying and not just how long the game has been running.

I am trying to achieve a rollover effect like this menu.
[URL]
The menu is working and sliding perfectly, however it's still a little squirmish, and if I can't figure this out I'll deal with it and let it slide. However it's bugging me and want to correct the "sluggishness" of this issue. I want the menu to pause, or rest when you open it, so that there isn't a chance the it can slide off of the users mouse pointer.
Here is the code
Code:
onClipEvent (load) {
_y = 0;
speed = 5;
[Code]....
I thought a simple on (rollOver) speed = 0 would do the trick, however it just sends the menu in a frenzy.

So your playing a flash game that's fast paced and mouse-based (hey that rhymes somewhat)... And then you accidentally move your mouse outside of the area of the swf... And then it pauses automatically with a "Continue" button, instead of you just dying or whatever. I've thought you could have a huge button the size of the stage and make it do something when the frame isn't 'mouseover' or whatever, but there's gotta be a better way. Also setting limits on the _xmouse and _ymouse wouldn't work cos sometimes the mouse moves too fast for them to accurately get the last mouseposition...

I am going to be working on a site that has various mechanical products for sale. The customer wants me to make a model and movie of each product to show how the product works. Here is an example product:
Flash Clip The problem I am having is, he wants the movie to only play when a user puts their mouse over the video. I attempted doing this with a mp4 file and it worked using jQuery, but only when in Chrome. Here is that link:
MP4 Clip I want these demos to be viewable by the largest possible audience, so I was trying to stay away from Flash (also because I don't know Flash very well if at all). Does anyone know of a way to get this video to work in other browsers like in the second example? If not, how can I achieve that same idea using Flash?

I am creating a sort of "information slideshow" for a clients website where a movie clip on the main stage acts as a slideshow and when not touched by the users mouse it fades through 3 stages giving information on 3 different subjects, then when the user places their mouse over the movie on the HTML page the animation stops to allow the user to use the scroll bar on the right of the movie to scroll through the information on the subject, then when the user is finished then can move the mouse away from the movie and it will continue to play through as it did before.
i have the animation playing with the 3 seperate "states" and identical scroll-boxes for each state and im trying to think of a way to make the animation stop when the mouse is over it WITHOUT using a button, when a button is used on the top layer of the animation the scroll boxes are not useable as the button is on top of them, so i tried making a gap in the button to cater for them but then of course the mouse isnt over the button when the user goes for the scroll box and the "rollout" part of the script is activated and the movie continues to play. is there a way to make the animation stop prehaps when the mouse is over the "main automation" movie clip WITHOUT the use of a button, or what would be even better is when flash detects that the mouse is over the top of the actual .SWF itself it stops the movie.

I am looking for real simple scripting - I have a 15-25 frame flash tweened animation and all I would like to do is run thru the animation once then on mouse click go to frame one and start again. And of course I am under a time crunch and completely fogged with actionscript 3.0. I did some basic projects back in the director days and thought I could just pick up where I left off. If I remember right it was simple scripting like
gotoFrame
and
pause
etc...

Image mouse overs cause fades the image to "black and white" and calls up a "view more" animation.
As far as I can tell, there are no sprites or images associated with this "view more" clip! I have searched everywhere, the images, graphics, movies, root directory.
