ActionScript 2.0 :: Put A OnRollOut Function That Will Stop The Scroll Upon RollOut?
Aug 12, 2008
I have a simple scroller that scrolls up or down as the user moves their mouse. The problem is that when you RollOut the scroller keeps moving. I can't figure out how to put a onRollOut function that will stop the scroll upon RollOut.
years.onRollOver = yearsOver;
function yearsOver() {
this.onEnterFrame = yearsPanel;

I have some thumbnails on my stage inside a movieclip, and the following code which basically moves them right or left, when the mouse goes right or left. What I want to do is stop the scrolling when I rollout the movieclip which contains the thumbnails.
Here is the code:

panel.onRollOver = panelOver;
function panelOver() {
this.onEnterFrame = scrollPanel;

I am trying to make a slideshow that allows the user to rollover a movieclip. The movieclips are basically static pictures.When a movieclip is rollover-ed (bad grammar i know!), the flash clip stops and onrollout it resumes again. Clicking on a movieclip goes to a URL using the getURL function.right now only the first picture works when you rollover, rollout or click on the picture... the rest stay static and don't do anything.

I am having trouble making 2 movies communicate with one another. One movie (series) is embedded into the other (content2). 'content2' is a horizontal scroll menu of images. 'series' is a movie that holds 'content2' and contains a mask which will reveal everything upon the rollover of the 'series' button. I can get the scroll to show and work when the button is rolled over but it fails to hide on roll out.
Here is the code I have used on the roll over button called 'series':
Code:
stop(); // stop the movie clip from playing (stop button from growing, we want that when the mouse rolls over only
sym2.onEnterFrame = function(){
if(rewind == true){ //if rewind switch is set to true play backwards
prevFrame(); // play backwards

I have an issue that has been plagueing me all morning. I've searched and searched on google, here, other flash sites, and even though I've seen a couple people with related problems, no solutions have seemed to tailor to my project.I am working with a series of invisible buttons that perform actions on a movie clip and a text field to simulate the rollover. However, I'm finding there is a problem with the rollout. When you move your mouse over the buttons quickly, they often seem to ignore the rollout command and stay on the rollover state.
Warning to anyone downloading the zip is that I'm utilizing mc_tween. However, I created this same scenario a couple weeks ago (lost my work from a faulty drive, and I'm redoing it now), and I had no issues. Obviously, my code ended up slightly different in the rebuilding of this thing, but this side effect is really holding me back.

I'm new at Flash and getting frustrated rather quickly. I created an swf file in After Effects. I imported the swf file into my flash library. I placed the swf file in my scene. I placed an invisible button over the swf file. I want the swf file to play on rollover, and immediately stop on rollout. I have tried two sets of code, neither works. In both cases the swf file will start to play on rollover, but plays until the end even on rollout.
FIRST CODE SET:
on (rollOver) {
gotoAndPlay(2);
} on (releaseOutside, rollOut) {
gotoAndStop(1);
} on (release) {
[Code] .....
This seems like it should be the most straightforward thing you can possibly do in Flash, and it just isnt working in a logical manner.

When I use:
on (release){
this.stop();
getURL("page.html", "_blank");
}
Why is it that when that new page window is loaded the background flash window then runs my
on (rollOut){
this.play();
}
function? I am trying to pause the timeline I am clicking from in Flash. If I take this line out (this.play() it pauses, but if I were to go that way how would I start getting my MC to play again when the user gets back to the flash window?

I'm doing a basic site with frame labels on the main timeline whose name corresponds to the btn names. A simple otoAndPlay(evt.target.name); I have a basic navigation setup of 7 mcs with mouse eventlisteners for CLICK, ROLL_OVER and ROLL_OUT.
Example:
prepare.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, navigate);plans.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, navigate);retire.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,
[Code]....
Does anyone know a better way to do this so when my mcs are clicked they display the rollover content/art? In essence I'm trying to achieve that when the user clicks a btn it goes to that "page" and the corresponding btn stays highlighted. Pretty standard web navigation technique but I just don't know what the best way to do this in flash is and with how my site is setup.

I thought I would be able to find a tut somewhere for this, but amazingly no. Does anyone know how to make a mc scroller that uses up and down buttons (no bar), that starts scrolling onPress and stops on onRelease... but eases into place wherever you happen to stop?

for (k=1; k<7; k++) {
this["btn0"+k].onRollOver = function() {
var yBtn:Tween = new Tween(this["btn0"+k], "_y", Strong.easeOut, this._y, this._y-8, 1, true);
}
};
[Code]....
I try to use tweening script for going up and down with a movie clip. But when I export, the button just keep going down and not going up again.

I hacked together a bunch of code I've found throughout the most excellent Kirupa and added a bunch of stuff myself.(Mad props to Scotty and Seniculor (sp?) btw)Everything I added works except the rollover function for multiple MC's that are created when the gallery generates.I want the buttons to continue fading out after rollout.Once you roll in to another MC the rollout function stops.It should work like a "wave" effect when you roll over all the buttons quickly.I've played around with local variables, deleting enterframes, etc. etc. but just can't get anything to work.I only included applicable code so please ignore any extra "}" I may have left in there when I pasted.[code]

im trying to do is have a button that shows an animation (created by a duplicateMovieClip function) with onRollOver and stops the animation with onRollOut. It works when i roll over and it stops when i roll out, but then it continues in a loop up to the point where i rolled out (instead of cutting off completely as i would like). Id be extremely grateful if you could tell me where im going wrong.

Is there anyway that I can override a rollOut function if an action is performed?
I have three mouse events:
a ROLL_OVER
a ROLL_OUT
a CLICK
Once the CLICK has taken place I want the movie clip to stop on the last frame. But because I have a ROLL_OUT Event it wants to continue to go back to that event when I roll out of the movie clip.
do I need an "if" statement here to override the rollOut function when I click?

I have a movieclip that has selectable text / scroll bar / other buttons etc - What I would like is to have an onRollOver / RollOut event to call a function on the entire movieclip, however when I do this - The entire movieclip is treated as a button and I cannot select the text nor click the scroll bar / other movieclip buttons within this movieclip. Is there a way to set the onrollover / rollout to execute a function without having the movieclip itself turn into a button / stop functioning?

how to make some scroll buttons. Not like a regular scrollbar button, but just two graphics that have a rollover function. I got the buttons to work except that I can't get it to stop. Here is the code I wrote:
[Code].....
Once I rollover, it keeps going forever unless I rollout, but it doesn't stop at 43 or -167. It only checks the boundaries at the start of a rollover, but I thought it would run the function every 10 milliseconds to see if I had passed the boundary.
