ActionScript 2.0 :: Start Over For Loop?
Feb 21, 2009I have a for loop, and I want it to start over if a certain thing happens. Completely start over, not continue(). Is there any command I can use to do this?

View 2 RepliesI've got a game going where portals are randomly placed across the map every X seconds.However, I can't figure out how to stop the portals from spawning on top of each other. I know how to easily do the collision, and check if they're too close to each other.Pretty much what I do is create the portal object, then randomly assign it X and Y values. Then, I do a for loop that loops through all the portals in the portals array, check THEIR X and Y value, checks to see if they're too close...then what? I can't just go "okay, it's too close" and randomly assign it new X and Y values, otherwise it could be on top of ANOTHER portal.What I'm looking for is something that will check the X and Y values of all the portals, then if it is on top of another portal, it will assign new X/Y values. Then, if these are on top, it will do it again. And again, until it gets the job done!
View 2 RepliesI'm pulling an xml and using a for loop to create a thumb list. This list is going to be quite long but I only 25 thumbs to be loaded at a time, so that the next 25 is only loaded when a user hits a button. I know how to set up a for loop in a function, but I can't quite figure out how to break up a loop where it would stop and start. I was thinking I would call the function each time a button is pressed and the loop would pick up where it left off with the next 25.
I thought maybe I could substite other variables into the for(); but everything I've tried breaks it. I tried pulling the var i:int = 0; out of the for so the function could set the i, but I guess I'm not clear on exactly how the for loop works.
What I'm doing:

Essentially I want the beeping sound to loop infinitely while there are no pauses in the writing of the text, but I want it to stop once the last loop that was going when a pause in the writing started has finished, and then start up again when the pause ends.Now I could just easily set the loop to stop once a pause starts, but then there is the chance of stopping the loop mid-sample and making the pause sound abrupt, and I don't want that to happen.Now please watch the current swf:And please read my script for better understanding

I am putting together a small slideshow of pictures and it's only about 350 frames. I haven't worked with Flash since version 4.0, so I'm still trying to figure out Adobe's setup. 4.0's setup was so easy when it came to replaying a video once it hit the last keyframe, but I'm so lost in this ActionScript stuff.
How do I get the video to loop back and start playing again automatically?

View 1 Replieswhat I'm trying to do is make a preloader that will preload about 20 external SWF files before it lets you get to my main file. I want to do this because my main file needs the SWFs to be ready to go once its done loading. I have looked around and i found a few ways to do this with the "if (loadedBytes>=totalBytes)" and the code loops back till the files are done loading... this would be just what i need but i cant seem to get it to work. the file just seems to start loading my files but does not loop and just runs the time-line even once i state what frames i want it to loop.

View 1 RepliesI'm trying to broaden my horizons with it and so I'm trying to do an update of a quiz program my employer has. Everything has worked well, except for the timer. The button that starts the game has two options, "study" or "exam"; if the study is selected, there is no countdown, just the score keeper. If the exam option is selected, the timer is show (counting up). But, press "Start" and while the quiz begins, the timer, in either case, does not.
I'm going to post the actionscript for the timer that was already there, as well as the start button. I'm hoping someone can explain how this timer is supposed to work and why it's not; and where the disconnect lies in pressing the start button and making it run.The timer is embedded in a movie clip, with two dynamic text boxes, that are for some have no instance name; and actionscript spread out over several frames.Frame 1:

i have a flash clip that i am trying to imbed into a joomla website of mine, and the problem is that it doesn't auto-start. If i open the swf file it will show a blank screen until i right click play or ctr+entr, on the website it simply doesnt show the flash. here is the link to the swf file [URL]

i'm trying to do an infinate loop for my m.clip.the looping part does not want to loop...it loops back to my firrst frame even though there are two same picture in the movie clip.....here's a sample of what i use for the infinate loop script..

I have need of loops / nested loops that pick different figures depending on where you are in the loop. The whole function needs to run through 'ml' times. 'ml' is a dynamic figure. Loop 1 = While the loop is within the first 12 iterations, 'exconemp' must equal 100. For iterations 13 - 24, 'exconemp' must equal 102.5, for 25 - 36 it will be 105.06, for 37 - 48 it will be 107.69. This needs to change every 12th iteration until it has reached 'ml'. The calculation takes the value of the previous 'exconemp' and then multiplies that by 0.025.
Loop 2 = While the loop is within the first 120 iterations, 'abc' must equal 0.015 and any further iterations must use 0.01. This must also work in a way to figure out whether 'ml' is higher or lower than 120 and work accordingly. My main issue is this - how do I get the loops to run through as this: While the iteration is < 12, do this, THEN take the final figure (12th iteration) and start on 13 - 24, do this THEN etc etc. How do I produce a THEN statement? I can get the code to pick up the final values, but not change along the way.

So basically within this code check_win is a button. Once the button is clicked it runs the loop. It is meant to take an instance of matches which contains 6 properties and loop until index is greater than matches. According to my output this is happening but the second loop doesn't appear to do anything.

the loop starts at 0 and not 1 so the loop ends at 6 does any one know how to resolve this issue?? its so that what ever number dayVal is it will be rounded up to a number that is Divisble by 7 .
Basically, I have data organized by date in an XML file. I'm trying to make a website application that will allow the user to click on a date (in a text field) to see another textfield populate with all the data under that particular date. So far, all the information loads into the textboxes at the same time. How can I get it to only load information under a particular date when somebody clicks on that date?
Before I started this project, I was convinced I could do this by manipulating the [j] (see code below) in the myFunc2 function. Currently, it's set up to increment blank_mc._y by whatever value is returned by [j]. But for some reason this doesn't work. I feel that if I could atleas get this part to work - I could probably do the rest.
