ActionScript 2.0 :: Write A Class That Will Hittest For Mouse Touching A Menu?
Feb 7, 2009
I am trying to write a class that will hittest for my mouse touching a menu. The class is attached to the linkage of the actual menu MC. I can't seem to get a hit, I think, what am I doing wrong?
Code:
import mx.events.EventDispatcher;
import mx.utils.Delegate;

Important: ActionScript 2.0Flash CS3I have some knowledge in Java and C++ which makes this easier... Im trying to make a game and the collision *** does not stop the character in its spot... if i set _y to 0 then it would go to the top of the screen... if i set _y to -1 each frame that the hitTest is active then the character goes through the platform and the rises by -1 (1 up) _y .... how can i make it so the character is stopped immediatly when touching (hitTest) the platform?

I have a graphic replacing the mouse cursor and I'm having it so that when the user goes over a MC (called hitSquare in this case) the cursor graphic moves to a certain location on the stage, then returns to the location of the real mouse position.[code]The problem with this is that during the 0.5 seconds that it takes the graphic to return to the mouse position, the user can still move the mouse, so it actually goes to different co-ordinates and when the user moves the mouse after the 0.5 is over, the cursor just jumps to the new location.How can I make it so that the graphic smoothly follows the mouse, (even if it's being moved and has to update in real time) and then returns to the standard mouse follow code (cursorMC.x = mouseX; etc) once it's met its final destination?I take it this requires some "mouse trail" code that gets removed once it's caught up with the mouse.

I may be wrong but as far as I can understand it the hitTestObject() method checks to see whether the object is touching a specific instance of another object? Is there a method I can use where I can check to see if it is touching any Object of a specified class?
OR is there a method I can call where I can see if an Object of a specified class exists at a specific X and Y.I am actually working in Flex using an Image component as opposed to using Flash.

I have designed a menu that When you mouse over it, a custom cursor appears. When you mouse down it disappears and when you mouse up it returns. If you happen to mouse down and then drag the mouse off of the menu (whilst in mouse down) and then mouse up outside the menu, the custom cursor disappears. All good. The only issue is: If you happen to mouse down on the menu and then drag the mouse off of the menu AND off of the stage, i.e the SWF (whilst in mouse down) and then mouse up completely off of the stage, the custom cursor appears at the point it left the menu. I have tried to fix this using MOUSE_LEAVE but this dosnt work when the mouse button is pressed down. I have attached an FLA, SWF and the AS below.
Code:
stop();
import com.greensock.*;
import com.greensock.easing.*;
import flash.events.MouseEvent;

I'm having an issue with using a hitTest to make a thumb menu from an image gallery I'm working with move up and down. Basically I need to use a hitTest because there is a conflict with the other rollover functions in the menu itself that prevents me from using a simple onRollOver function. All I want to do is hide the menu until the mouse rolls over it then I want it to pop up then on roll out hide itself again. The gallery is part of a larger site that loads the gallery into the index page and has a full screen function so it needs to stay at the absolute bottom of the page just above the footer at all times. Here is the code I'm working with but think I'm over complicating it.

I'm trying to create a pop-up menu. I've gotten it to work, however, I'm using an invisable button to control when the mouse is over, or when it leaves so that the menu will hide itself back down. It seems that when I but a button or ANYTHING using the rollOver or rollOut tags that it messes with the invisable button and hides the menu. I figure I need a hitTest?

I am creating a menu with nested MCs, of course, and the parent MC is using a RollOver action. The problem with that is: all other nested MC's RollOver action are not detected. I know you can use a mouse hitTest as a work-around i.e.:
Code:
onEnterFrame = function(){
if(this.hitTest(_xmouse,_ymouse,true)){
//do whatever
}}
But I'd like to avoid using that if possible.

Im trying to write a function that will build a menu based upon the vars that I passed it to. This is a simpler version on the code.(The library has a MC/Btn symbol with the linkage "btn");
Code:
function bulidMenu(nItems:Number) {
var menuMCx:Number = 100;
var menuMCy:Number = 100;
[code]...
Why do I get an output of 4 on every clicked button, instead of 0,1,2,3 ? I tryed forwarding the " i " to the onRelease = function(i) {} and then in it declaring a new var and assigning it the passed " i ", but that doesn't work either :/

I've googled for hours and found nothing. I did find a lot but none involved hittesting with a mouse cursor. I'm trying to make a simple maze game, so far it works, I die when I hit squares and rectangles, but I die incorrectly when hitting a rotating rectangle.Because it rotates, the bounding box is larger and a normal hittest sees bounding boxes, meaning it won't work.Make it so that my mouse can go near the rotating rectangle without dying until I actually touch the actual rectangle instead of the bounding box.

My first post in Actionscript.org. but I'm a long time visitor / fan. I'm moving a object with mouse but using some easing values. means it will follow the mouse slower.
Here is the file.[URL].. How can i check hitTest in this situation. even if i do it normally...the object is passing the collision object simply before stopping..because its being moved with mouse..

Having used copyPixels to display an image, I'm trying to copy another in it's place when the mouse is hovering.The only way I can copy the new image over the old is by setting the If statement to == false. I know there's something wrong with testing the bitmapData of the loaded .png because the hitTest would apply to anything copied from that tile sheet... but how to designate just the copied area?

I am attempting to build a xml driven drop down menu where everything is taken from xml. now the problem arises with submenues. I have them being created fine, but it's the mouse out that won't work. I want to use a hittest to check if my mouse is over any of the submenues and if not just to trace something so I know it's working.
The problem is when i mouse of one clip onto the next it fails the hittest and traces. There isn't a space between the two MC's so I dunno what would be causing this. I have read sen's guide but I'm not pulling things from the library. Everything is being created at run time so I can't use the attach movie, so I am just positioning them below each other.

i have a hit test point on display object, and if i exit stage over that display object, and then run hit test point it will return true, although my mouse is not over stage area any more, like it remembers the last mousex, mousey coordinates where mouse was and reports that.how do i deal with it?i know i can detect mouse_leave on stage and mouse_out on displayobject.

This seems like it should be simple, but... I've been trying to figure out how to do the following, and I can't seem to make it work. It all works except for the hit test part. I have a working drag and drop application. I need something different to happen when the user drops an object while the mouse x,y is, or is not over a certain (very irregularly shaped) bitmap inside a movieClip. how to do this? I have found some complicated ways to hit test between 2 bitmaps, but not 1 bitmap and mouse x,y.

I have a MovieClip. It represents animation of jumping monster. For clearness, let's pretend there are only 2 frames: the first one occupies top left rectangle (x = 0, y = 0, w = 70, h = 70) and the second one occupies (x = 100, y = 0, w = 70, h = 70). So monster jumps from left to the right. And position of MovieClip itself is constantly = (0, 0).
I'd like to fire some event when monster is clicked by mouse.
For some reason, I have stage mouse listener, not monster mouse listener. I wrote this code:
stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onClick);
private final function onClick(e:MouseEvent):void {
const clickPos:Point = new Point(e.stageX, e.stageY);
// having monster:MovieClip, how do I check hitting it?

I'm getting really tired of AS3 now because I cant get it to do basic things like hit tests which were so easy in AS2. Basically, I generate a number of fish of varying scale, speeds and directions using this on the first frame of the timeline and the constructor function in the fish.as file:
ActionScript Code:
function DisplayFish() {
for (var i:int = 0; i < 20; i++) {
var newFish:fish = new fish();
this.addChild(newFish);
[Code] .....
What I want to do is rather than setting a max / min x/y use a hit test with a side wall MC on the stage, and a hit test between this instance of fish and all other fishes so they bounce off each other. I've tried so many ways of hit testing from within the class with MCs on stage but just cant get it to work.
ActionScript Code:
if(this.hitTestObject(root.LeftWall)){
directionX = 1;
}

So, how do we write a class over several files in action script 3? In C# there's the "partial" keyword. In C++ it's natural (you just "#include ..." all files). In Flex 3, in a component, you add this tag: <mx:Script source="myfile.as"/>.
How do I split the following class into several files;
package package_path {
public class cSplitMeClass {
public function cSplitMeClass() {
} public function doX():void {
// ....
} public function doY():void {
// ....
}}}
For example I want to have the doX() and doY() functions implemented in another ".as" file.
