ActionScript 3.0 :: Adding Variables To A XML Object's Attributes?

Sep 22, 2009

I've created and XML object that's working fine and I want the user to be able to add to the XML dynamically, using an input text field and appendChild() So, what is the syntax to use so that I can put in the text they enter as an attribute of a node of my current XML object? Here's what I've got for adding to the XML (stripped down obviously):

ActionScript Code:
var xmlData:XML = new XML();
var clientToAdd:String = userInput.text;
xmlData.appendChild(<project name=clientToAdd></project>);

How can I take the variable clientToAdd and make it the attribute "name" of the "project" node?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Object Attributes From XML / Sub-attributes

Jun 29, 2009

I am dynamically creating a number of objects (movieclips) which all have a number of attributes.[code]and so on. i.e sub attributes. I don't think this is possible? Only sprite and movieclips can have dynamic attributes so unless atrbY is a movieclip (which it isn't, it's a string) it isn't allowed?Each object can have suboptions with further attributes associated with the chosen suboption.Later in the program I will manipulate, read and interact with the objects and they have text display behaviours dependent on the suboption chosen. That part (should) be straightforward! heh. One the object has the attributes attached in a usable format, accessing them should be simple.This will be for a store. i.e t-shirt1 has size small, price 10, size medium, price 12, size large, price 14. t-shirt2 has size medium, price 35, size large, price 40 and so on.[code]

This format of the XML can be adjusted if it would make the parsing easier.I am currently reading the XML in, stepping through, grabbing the individual parameter such as category and then adding it as an attribute of the object and it works fine. i.e. I end up with obj.category = 'catname'. However, on suboptions I am having a problem.Should I put all the suboptions in a multidimensional array and use nested loops to apply them to the object?I would still have the problem of objX.suboptionarray[Y].suboptionprice which isn't allowed? In the above XML case Y would be 0,1 and 2 giving 3 suboptions to objX and each suboptions would hold attributes such as pvid associated with that suboption.I could go down the horrible route, obj1.suboption1subptionprice ; obj1.suboption1suboptionpname; obj1.suboption1suboptionvalue; obj1.suboption2suboptionprice; obj1.suboption2suboptionpname and so on and so on for each suboption which could be five options (small,medium,large,x-large, xx-large) and which would "work" but would be bad programming and involve splicing names to get say, the "third" suboptions' price and pvid e.t.c

Going down the route of mutidimensional arrays sounds good except that on say 50 objects I would have stacks of arrays which I'm guessing isn't great in terms of resources?.Just to add, the number of suboptions varies between object, every object has a minimum of one suboption (default option) but can have as many as needed (unlikely to be more than 5 but should be scalable). i.e some t-shirts only come in medium whereas some have many sizes.I have a fair amount of leeway on the format of the XML which I generate from the database so the formatting of that could change to make the parsing easier.

Data Integration :: Adding Variables To LoadVars Object?

Apr 27, 2007

I have an application that reads a PHP script and populates the Flash applets using the following on frame 1:

[Code]...

A combobox (created with the returned data) is created on frame 61. When a selection is chosen in the combobox I need to add the value returned from the combobox to the variable catvar, add this variable to the LoadVars object and run the script again. It seems to set c.catvar initially but when I use the 'sendAndLoad command the second time c.catvar isn't included. Is it possible to add variables to a LoadVars object created
on frame 1 from frame 61?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Adding Attributes To Movieclip Instances?

Let's say I have 5 instances of a movie clip on the stage, which are going to be manipulated by Actionscript. Is there a way I can add attributes/parameters/variables to each one, inside flash? Like "hitpoints" and "attack," for example. If I could set all those values inside the Flash IDE, for later access in the game code, it would make my workflow a lot cleaner. (I'm making game levels)

ActionScript 3.0 :: Attributes For TextFormat Variables?

Apr 21, 2011

I create a TextFormat variable like so:

ActionScript Code:
textBox1_fmt = new TextFormat();
textBox1_fmt.color = 0xFFFFFF;
textBox1_fmt.size = 22;

What I would also like to change though is the font family to Lithos Pro and set the alignment to the right. Do you need to embed the fonts? If so, then how?

I then draw a TextField onto the screen like so:

ActionScript Code:
textBox1_txt = new TextField();
textBox1_txt.text = "example";

[Code]....

otherwise it reverts to some default setting. How can I change this default setting?

AS3 :: Accessing Attributes Of A Static Variable Of An Object From Another Object

Nov 7, 2009

I have 2 classes, Display holds the currently selected Component:

public class Display

}

Component has an ID string and the selectedComponent variable is set on click:

public class Component extends MovieClip
{
public var id:String;
addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, function() {

[Code]...

Removing the selectedComponent variable type so it reads public static var selectedComponent; removes the conversion error and seems to change the ID variable but it appears to only be a copy of the object.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Adding The Values Of 2 String Variables Together?

May 17, 2009

I meant to call it "Convert a value to a variable". Using CS3, AS2: If I have a variable that's a string value = the name of another variable, can I extract the value and then look for the extracted value's matching variable name to get it's value?

Ex:

color = "blue"
box = "color"

(Assuming I don't know the value of box) How would I get the value of "box" out so I could search for the value "color" as if it were a variable? I need to convert a value to a variable name is what i'm getting at... I think.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Variables Not Adding Together To Make New Number

Having some issues with some variables not adding together to make a new number. Instead they are appending to each other as if adding characters onto a string rather than a number. Here is my code.

ActionScript Code:
var dispenserPos:Object = {x1:"41", y1:"180", x2:"283", y2:"180", x3:"530", y3:"180", x4:"775", y4:"180"};
function randRange(min:Number, max:Number):Number {
var randomNum:Number = Math.floor(Math.random() * (max - min + 1)) + min;
return randomNum;
[Code] .....

It should be tracing out 388 instead of the numbers appended onto one another.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Adding Randomly Loaded Variables Together And More?

Feb 1, 2004

I'm struggling with a project. I'll try and describe it. 10 mc are loaded randomly with one of two ext.swf's. Each time you click/drag on one, 1 of 6 questions are randomly loaded from an array into a text box on the main timeline. I need to count and add up how many of each of the 2 ext.swf's have loaded and whether they have an x pos < or > 300. My first problem is: The question shows up in the text box when the mc is clicked/dragged but when I trace it, the question that shows in the output doesn't match the one that's loaded into the text box?The second problem is a big one. I need to be steered in the right direction as to keep track of what is where on stage. I only have a vague sense of how to go about it, and combining all the bits is too much.

1. I need to trace the question2. I need to say if the question is 'blah' do this3. The 'do this' is pretty complicated. I need to add up the #1 movies that have an x pos of <300 and the #1 movies that have an x pos of >300 and then do the same for the #0 movies. Then I need to compare a users input answer to the correct one!!! The question AS is in the external swf. [AS]stop();

Flash :: Adding Hash Variables To ClickTAG In AdWords?

Jan 16, 2012

I'm building a Flash banner (as3) for AdWords, but I can't find in their documentation whether it is possible to add hash or querystring variables to appear in the eventual target url when u are using a clickTAG. Ideally I would like to use both. For example, my banner has four input fields and I would like to build my target url thusly:

var base:String= "http://www.example.com";
var qs:String= "?one=" + input1.text + "&two=" + input2.text;
var hs:String= "#three=" + input3.text + "&four=" + input4.text;
var targetUrl:String= base + qs + hs;
flash.net.navigateToURL(new URLRequest(targetUrl), "_blank");

Is this possible with AdWords while using clickTAG?

Adding Movieclips To Object Class?
