ActionScript 3.0 :: BitmapData Of A Rotated Rectangle?
Aug 5, 2010
I'm using following code:
ActionScript Code:
var bd:BitmapData = new BitmapData(stage.stageWidth, stage.stageHeight);
bd.draw(stage, null, null, null, new Rectangle(tmpX - (tmpW/2), tmpY - (tmpH/2), tmpW,

I have a rectangle of any arbitrary width and height. I know X,Y, width, and height. How do I solve the upper right hand coordinates when the rectangle is rotated N degrees? I realized if it were axis aligned I would simply solve for (x,y+width). Unforunatly this doesn't hold true when I apply a transform matrix on the rectangle to rotate it around its center.

i need to check if a point is within a rotated rectangle. I have to do this mathematically, as none of the objects are on the stage so i can't use hitTestPoint. I know the position and rotation of the rectangle, and if necessary can get the four corners as points as well.
I kind of feel silly asking this, because i am pretty sure it's not a hard thing to do, i just can't work it out and so far any google searches just bring up hitTestPoint.

I have the following display hierarchy:- - container- - - objectI need to draw 'object' to a BitmapData instance which matches object.getBounds(stage) rectangle area. So the first part is easy:
ActionScript Code:
var rect:Rectangle = object.getBounds(stage);
var bmp:BitmapData = new BitmapData(rect.width, rect.height, true, 0x00000000);

I'm trying to take a 'snapshot' of a movieclip that i've got on the stage with "BitmapData" and then starting a "draw()" command on it. I'm able to get it drawing.. however.. it only takes the things from (0,0).( the upper left corner of the movieclip. Doing a trace on "BitmapData.rectangle" gives me it's X and Y coordinates .. and it's width and height..
How do I change the X and Y locations of the BitmapData for it to start the drawing from? As I have some stuff on the negative side of x.

I was working on some blitting code today and after profiling it found that I was creating 1000s of new rectangles. I was shocked because I only had 1 or 2 different new Rectangle() calls or I was using the .rect property of BitmapData.
I started commenting out huge swathes of code until I was left with this code in my sprite class:
canvas.bitmapData.copyPixels(_bitmapData, _bitmapData.rect, destination, null, null, true);
I cached the result of _bitmapData.rect at object creation and my thousand of new rectangle calls were suddenly gone from the profiler.
Why the heck would BitmapData.rect create a new rectangle? Is there a way to check the core libraries or something and confirm this is true?

Is there a way to apply a colorTransform to a BitmapData in a circle rather than in a rectangle?
Instead of erasing rectangular parts of an image by reducing the alpha channel as in the code below, I'd like to do it in circles.[code]...

After seeing the I've been told that movieclips aren't suited for games, what do you use? thread, I thought I would try to incorporate the approach into a game I'm currently programming to make it a little less processor intensive.
I have a giant movieclip of a football field, of which only 5-10% is shown at any given time. I'm guessing that flash still has to make calculations for the other 90-95% of the field every frame, even though it's of no use. From what I understand (not much), copyPixels seems like the perfect candidate for such a situation.
It seems simple, but I'm having trouble actually implementing it, and I'm not sure which actions are needed and what might be introducing unnecessary work. I have a movieclip (mc_field, exported for as), but if it would save the processor some effort,I could easily save this as a bitmap and export that for actionscript. The width and height of the final product (bitmap/BitmapData) will be Stage.width, Stage. height,respectively,and I can handle making the calculations of the x,y coordinates of the rectangle cropping (which part of the source bitmap I want to crop).I'm sure it's only 3 lines of code, and I know that there are a few examples online, but for some reason.
Say, for frame one, I want to take the field (either mc_field or bm_field) and copy 500px x 300px, starting at 140,230 from the source bitmap to mc_container.Then, for frame two, I want to copy 500px x 300px starting at 240,540 from the source bitmap to mc_container.

For those of you still with me, I am tasked with making some scrollable content in Flash. Load in a TextFile using LoadURL(), then display it. To get the text, we've written our own class TextFieldExtended, which is basically just there to give the textfile location to the constructor and then have the class do the various steps of getting it and loading it for you.So I needed to get a Scrollbar, which I got hereThe thing is, it works with Sprites.After trying to get it to accept TextFieldExtended, I bumped into a block, since the scrollbar relied heavily on a Sprite property that TextFieldExtended didn't have or could have.
So I tried adding the TextFieldExtended instance to a Sprite instance using addchild.A problem occurs here that I do not know how to handle. It seems that a Rectangle is drawn and the Text is drawn on that. I say this because the scrollbar moves the Rectangle up and down a bit, but the text doesn't scroll, just the Rectangle it is positioned in and the text then moves along with it.My question: can this be fixed, or is does this implementation of scrollbars need a lot of adaptations before this is possible?

I am trying to convert a rectangle(actually multiple rectangles) to a curved rectangle. I think it should be pretty easy but I guess i am stupid. Basically I would have a start position and stop position (many of these), and they would be converted to curved rectangles and follow in a cicrle around.

I would like to create a rectangle inside of a rectangle, starting approximately 15% inward from the right side of the other rectangle.
I know how to create rectangles with:
Code:
var newHotRect:MovieClip = new MovieClip();
newHotRect.graphics.beginFill(0x00FF00);
newHotRect.graphics.drawRect(0, 0, 100, 100);
addChild(newHotRect);
But how would I make another rectangle on top of that (the black one pictured) that is approximately 15% from the right?
I toyed around with .right, and .bottomright with no success. Can anyone lead me in the right direction? or even finding the x and y of the upper right or bottom right side of a rectangle?

how to respond when a rectangle hits another rectangle? I already know how to detect the collision, I just don't know how to respond to it. I'm just trying making a simple side-scrolling platform game where I have platforms I can walk on and bump against on all sides. I have searched everywhere and just can't find the tutorials I'm looking for.

I am trying to use the reflect class from "http://pixelfumes.blogspot.com/2007/03/reflection-class-v3-with-source .html" but I keep getting this error:
ArgumentError: Error #2015: Invalid BitmapData.
at flash.display::BitmapData()
at Reflect()
at Site_fla::GalleryPage_29/loadThumbs()
at Site_fla::GalleryPage_29/sortXML()
[Code]...
btw, first I used assigned thumbContainer as the mc argument (outside the loadThumbs() function) and it worked but not exactly what I wanted... because I thought it is supposed to update when the movieclip is animated but it actually didn't... when I use a scroller, only the thumbs that are first loaded to the stage get the reflection..

I've been using BitmapData.copyPixels() to draw graphics onto a canvas (Bitmap).I need to rotate the resulting graphics without the use of draw() because it's vastly slower.How can I rotate the target graphic? I'm assuming that there might be a formula or library that I can use which will first reorganize the pixels that make up a graphic based on an origin (point) and radians.I'm pretty certain that I'm not capable of creating such logic, so if there are any known libraries that do this, that would be awesome.I'd like to achieve something similar to XNA's SpriteBatch.Draw() method, which accepts rotation as its 5th argument.

I've made a mobile version of my software, with low-res images and such, and I can now fully buffer all my content (including a 360 frame animation which is buffered to memory). Problem is, that everytime I update the view, more memory is used.When I write image = new BitmapData();, does it store the previously created BitmapData's in memory? Do I have to flush the memory somehow before I draw my second picture in BitmapData?Example:

I am having an issue with using BitmapData.draw(stage). I am getting the following error:
SecurityError: Error #2123: Security sandbox violation: BitmapData.draw: file:///C|/Documents%20and%20Settings/bla...bla...bla.swf cannot access null. No policy files granted access. Here is a portion of my code:
var bd:BitmapData = new BitmapData(2800, 2100); bd.draw(stage);//this is where the error happens All of the files referenced (.xml/.jpg/.swf) are located in the same local folder as the main .swf. How do I get around this error? The main objective is to print the stage using PrintJob(). I am using Flash Professional CS5.5 and publishing to Flash 10.0/10.1. Let me know if I need to supply any more info.

I am facing a curious issue. Generally when we draw lines in Flash either vertically or horizontally or through exact 45 degrees on either of the sides, they come out as straight and anti-aliased. While if they are drawn deviated from either 0 or 45 degrees, they come out as jagged. I want that to be anti-aliased too

When I select the text tool in Flash and click on screen to type, my text box is default rotated 90Ė clockwise. In addition, the text is default bottom aligned so when you hit return, the next line is above the first line. So, simply rotating it back doesn't
Even my properties box align buttons are rotated: I should add that the little rotation button you see for "orientation" is not the fix- it rotates individual letters.I can't find anything in the menus, toolbars or preferences to change this...

The title might be a little misleading. Look at my code and I will explain
public static function loadTile(tileDir:String = "empty"):void
{
if(tileDir != "empty")
{
tPoint = new Point(0,0);
tRect = new Rectangle(0,0,30,30);
[Code]...
I am trying to do tiling with sprites. I want my tiles to be interactive, so that is why I am using the sprite object instead of using regular bitMaps to represent my tiles. You might be wondering why I wouldnt just use graphics.beginBitmapFill(tImage); and graphics.drawRect(0, 0,tWidth ,tHeight ); to pick out the tiles I want to use. Well reason being is because it turns out that drawRect() first and second parameters actually alter the location of where the actual sprite sits at.
So if I set the x and y properties of the sprite to x = 20, and y = 20. then I set my drawRect(20,20). it actually adds an extra 20 pixels to my x and y coords of my sprite. And I know the reason why, I just need to know a better way.

this math isn't working well. I'm using it for a rotated drag and drop (of a tone arm on a vinyl, a kind of abstract turntable simulation). Right now it just moves a bit in the middle of the vinyl (values between 21 and 36, is this degree or what unit is this?), but it should move between the two edges. The problem is that I don't know enough about trigonometry functions. Therefore I can't optimize the math for envisaged behaviour. Does anybody have an idea/tip how I can get a bit more control on the math and its effect? (maybe with more trace functions)
