ActionScript 3.0 :: Custom Shapes / Sprites With Code?

I want to start building some prebuild shapes, like a star, cross, heart, and some more with code.Does anyone know if there is already something like this ? A library with custom sprites or shapes?And should i create these graphics extending the sprite or shape class? I read that shapes wouldbe better for performance?

I'm working on a project that involves making a globe in flash which will have many particular points (all the worlds major cities by using their longitudes and latitudes). It's all 2D made to look 3D.To make the "Sphere," I put together some code that stacks a bunch of ovals that creates the illusion of space, ala the code below...

Now, my problem is that in order to assign the longitude and latitude information I need to be able to address each oval individually (not only which one, but also eventually the angle/radians of each oval for the latitude) and I've run into a snag...I don't know how or perhaps exactly what to do, because I know how to make it a symbol and class if the object was already made visually using the oval tool in the tool bar, but I can't figure out (after taking a bit of time looking up on how to use arrays and classes) how to do it in the AS3 code where I actually made the "sphere."

I have a question about shapes (i mean the flash.display.Shape class). Is it possible to import Shapes directly from the library as Shapes and not as Sprites/MovieClips? Shapes are supposed to be faster than MovieClips/Sprites, right? So why is it only possible to import MCs/Sprites from the library? I understand that generally shapes could be created solely by actionscript, but in my case the shape comprises of many points and is curved - so it's quite infeasible.
Is there maybe some sort of plugin to generate code that would draw the desired shape from a drawn shape in CS4? And a last one: Are there any benchmarks out there for performance comparison between sprites/mcs/shapes? How much performance do i loose by using a sprite instead of a shape?

i got some examples am working on i have this project that has falling stars but when i run my project and test the movies the stars are colored in yellow,i have checked the sprites and the shapes color and changed them to white but nothing changed

Go about to making a custom shape for a hill. I want to import it from photoshop where I made it but when I do it comes in as a square so instead of the character moving up the hill it goes to the top of the square and drops when the image ends.

The idea is to fill some custom curved shape surface with generated circles with various radiuses. Look at attached image.
Well, I assume I know what approach I should use, but getBounds() will not work in my case, since the shape is not a square. So I think I need to get the 'targetCoordinateSpace' of a custom shape, but I don't know how to do that and I'm not even sure if that will work.

In the preload there are some tween from a shape to another using the same components in every tween (the leaf) and then from a shape the tween goes to a number of the preload...how to achieve this effect? I have seen it in a lot of websites but i've never understand how to achieve this effect that is an awsome effect above all when you are trying to show a product or a company. Rapresenting the brand identity and all the things concern to it with this effect is an awsome idea.

I'd like to learn how to create classes. For instance, I'd like to create a class that draws a custom shape. Like an arrow that is just a rectangle with a triangle on the end. I'd like to be able to do this sort of thing:

im trying to add some buttons or sprites on each of TileList items, i even made my own ImageCell class and inject some code that adds sprite on each image but it is not clickable - all clicks are reffering to "object MyImageCell" not that specific sprite

i am creating a game using flash cs5 and a part of it is drag and drop. in the game, we have this so called sprites. if you clicked on sprite 1, the topic for the drag and drop game is like for example, science. and once done and when you clicked on the other sprites, the subject assign would be for example arts.is it possible to create 1 fla file in flash cs5 where in it contains all the possible commands for drag and drop game for all sprites? you see, i have a main fla file which is the main game this calls the other files or activity, and some other fla file which is the activity in the game like question and answer, puzzles and the likes.
i am having an idea about inserting each question game in different frames to make the code shorter and to avoid having to duplicate the code for the other sprites. or in other words, every time the user clicks the sprites assigned to that specific activity, it will call the specified frame that corresponds to the instance name.again, the sprites are located on the main fla file. when clicked, it calls another fla file containing the game and at the same time, getting the value of the sprites ti know which frame should it proceed to. and thus returning the score attained in the minor fla file to the main fla file after the end of each activity.

This problem is probably very simple to solve but it is not clear to me. It may simply be that I am doing something incorrectly. I have studied OOP and AS3 for quite a few hours so I am familiar with the concepts but not the flow. I work as a Flash Developer. There are lines of code I use maybe hundreds of times a day that I have to type out each time. Is there any way to save these custom lines of code to the ActionScript tools library?Or would there be a way to save a custom component that enters the lines of code automatically?

I have a bit of code that calls a custom class that I made in flash. Basically when you roll over this logo I have a function that makes a new instance of a custom class and calls it to the stage like a little pop-up text when you roll over something. Then when you roll off of it I remove it from the stage. The following code is for the first pop-up text.

This is NOT duplicate of my earlier post (its is slightly different)But this is similar issue with similar error but its not the same error The error I am getting now is below while dispatching the custom event from my custom component
TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert events::MapEvent@a74ab51 to flash.events.MouseEvent.
dispatchEvent(new MapEvent(MapEvent.CLICKED_ON_MAP));
Note: The error in my earlier post is giving below error message
Type Coercion failed: cannot convert flash.events::Event@81ecb79 to com.events.ShopEvent
The difference here are two things, the earlier error is while converting flash event to custom event and now this one is while converting custom event to flash event and secondly, I have no clue why it is trying to convert to the mouseevent where I am just dispatching my custom event with proper listeners.

If I am to import an image and I wish to use it as a sprite or something like that; How do I remove the white areas? For example, if I was going to create a custom cursor or something like that, an I was to use this image: Image - how would I remove the white areas, so that they are transparent. I would also like to know if it is possible to set where the center of rotation in an image is?I do all my image work on Photoshop, if that is of any significance.

So created a Sprite to which I add other Sprites which are game tiles. Each tile is 60 x 60 px big. In result I've the Sprite with about 200 childs (those tiles).When I try to startDrag() the container sprite the lag when moving it is very noticeable..
Is there a way like to join the tile Sprites so the container would have only 1 child Sprite instead of 200? Because it lags so much probably cause it needs to move (change the x and y) all those 200 tiles.. Am I correct?In this case I can't use the cacheAsBitmap property, cause user can zoom in or zoom out the map..

I'm currently building a slideshow application using the MVC pattern, as it stands the application works by going to the next picture by clicking the photo or controlling the slides with a next/prev button.
i am trying to add additional navigation so that there are thumbnails of the images loaded with XML so the user can click the image and go straight to the image clicked on.
thats easy enough i could add buttons manually with thumbnails in them but it would tedious to update the photography or artwork when it comes to increasing or reducing the number of photos.
so what i plan is that ,when the application loads it reads and counts the images Thumnails in the XML file,then the AS3 generates thumbnail icons according to the amount of images counted in the XML File, then places them on the stage in a sequence next to each on the stage. as a sequence of thumnails with can then be used to navigate around the library with more control and is easy to update simply by changing the XML file.[code]...

How can insert sprites from the IDE? When I press f8 the only options are MovieClip, Buttons and Shapes. If I export to ActionScript I can change the class to Sprite, but I want to insert a Sprite directly from the IDE.

it is possible for me to add cut-out shapes onto Flash? I have cut them out in photoshop and pasted on a transparent background, but when I open them in Flash the background has changed to white.
