ActionScript 3.0 :: Dynamically Add Movieclips Constrained To A Containers Width?
Oct 16, 2010
I've got a problem with a (seemingly) simple equation that i can't quite figure out.
My problem is as follows:
I've got a pretty basic for loop that creates a 'thumbnail' and puts it next to the previous one (With a little padding) inside a containing movie clip.[code]...
The correct code to constrain movie clips to a container movie clip (or sprite or whatever) in the fashion I was looking for is this:
var picContainer:PicContainer = new PicContainer(); picContainer.x = stage.stageWidth / 2 - picContainer.width / 2; picContainer.y = stage.stageHeight / 2 - picContainer.height / 2; addChild(picContainer); var totalPics:int = 17; var pic:Pic = new Pic(); //make an instance just to get its width [Code] .....
[URL]. I'm trying to load multiple swf's on a key-press. Loading to one mc is not a problem, but when I try to define multiple containers from multiple sources it doesn't work. This is an XML example: <menu><item name="item1" > <sub name="item2" > <subsub name="item3" action="item3.swf" texte="text.swf"/> function on menu mc: function executeAction(action, texte) { trace(action); trace(texte); loadMovie( action, _root.content); loadMovie( texte, _root.texte); }
I'm new to Flash Builder 4 and Actionscript 3 (actually, to programming as a whole beyond some very simplistic stuff). I have watched / read a bunch of tutorials, and started a project but now seem to have hit a wall. The answer is most likely simple, but seems to be alluding me.
How do I (or What approach should I take) to control visual elements, for instance, BorderContainer's, that I created dynamically?
As is, I have an Application containing a BorderContainer and a DataGrid. At runtime, 3 new BorderContainers (which are dragable, and resizeable) are created based on XML data that contains X & Y co-ordinates, and Height and Width values, and then added to the pre-existing BorderContainer. How would I go about getting the properties of these children BorderContainers to be displayed and remain up-to-date in the DataGrid (such as when they are moved/resized)?
how to get a movieclip named "topnav" to resize it's width to match that of the stage. I am trying to resize the width of a top nav bar across a resizable RIA. I have started with the following code but with only partial success:
Code: stage.addEventListener(Event.RESIZE, resizeListener); function resizeListener (e:Event):void { var reg2 = stage.stageWidth / 100;
I've managed to code the following function for an AS2 class. What I'd like to do is to add a "constrained space", like a square, and keep the easing. I've tried to update this function in many possible ways.
ActionScript Code: private function dragMe(victim:MovieClip):Void { var easing:Number = 15;
I want the map's movement to be constrained to the edges of the stage. Or in other words, if you move your mouse from the left edge of the stage to the right, you only just see the right edge map, whereas now, it dissappears off the other side of the stage.
I have 5 movie clips, currently and I am positioning them via actionscript. The instance names are nar, mv, dance, bio, clients, contact. (pretty obvious this is navigation for a portfolio site?)
Here is the positioning I currently have... Code: var spacing = (((Stage.width*.75) - (nar._width + mv._width + dance._width + bio._width + clients._width + contact._width))/5); nar._x = 10; mv._x = 10+nar._width+spacing; dance._x = 10+nar._width+mv._width+(spacing*2); bio._x = 10+nar._width+mv._width+dance._width+(spacing*3); clients._x = 10+nar._width+mv._width+dance._width+bio._width+(spacing*4); contact._x = 10 + nar._width + mv._width + dance._width + bio._width + clients._width + (spacing*5);
Now, I know that this can be done with an array and a loop, something like, loop through all movie clips for width, then use the total in the spacing variable, then for each clip in the array, set the _x to 10 + the width of the clips before it + spacing times its array position, but man, I can just NOT figure out the syntax.
I have an array of display objects that are simple scattered circles on the stage. My goal is to have them move around randomly within, say, a 5/10 pixel radius/range from their original x and y. Sort of like fireflies, but not as jittery and fast, I'm looking for something real smooth. What I have now is something like this:
So as you can see for each circle I call a class JitterCircle and pass it two values: the actual display object and the range I want my circle to fly around in. Inside JitterCircle I have this:
I want the map's movement to be constrained to the edges of the stage. Or in other words, if you move your mouse from the left edge of the stage to the right, you only just see the right edge map, whereas now, it dissappears off the other side of the stage.
I have been hacking together two different tutorials to create a menu with changing images, and some animating text. Everything looks great, except the menuitems, which i try to resize dynamically depending on the menuitem-movieclip-contained dynamictext. When i resize this movieclip, the whole movieclip scales, and everything looks odd.
this is my first flash project on my own, so be nice :-)
i have different size (wxh) swf files, and i have to load different swf in one SWf file(say name sample.swf) now what my problem is when i load different swf in my sample.swf either it crop disply if bigger swf load or it leave space if it small..
I want to change the height and width of an object (specifically doubling it) after an interval of 2 seconds until the height and width of the object reach over 100. I've made two different scripts to try to make this possible.
How do i set the maximum width and height of a dynamicly created MC. It is a mc holding an loaded image.
This is what i got sofar:
Code: createEmptyMovieClip("imagecontainermedium", getNextHighestDepth()); // set the alpha to not see the picture loading... imagecontainermedium._alpha = 0;
how can I change the height and width of stage dynamically. I tried it with the following code:
Stage.height = 250; Stage.width = 250;
during the run time. Initially the Stage is at a height and width of 370 and 450 respectively. Also when I tried to trace the height and width of Stage after resizing the stage width and height, its showing the old value of width and height. That means the width and height not chnaging.
Can we change the width of the datagrid column dynamically by clicking on the border of the column in order to display the complete string which is too long to be displayed and needs to be scrolled ? If so, How ?
Also, how can we ensure that the column width changes dynamically based on the number of characters / length of string; since many a times the data is too long to be displayed. Can we set the column width to take the length of data into consideration before displaying onto the datagrid ?
I have some custom components, that derived from UIComponent. I overloaded the updateDisplayList so they have custom look. I've created a layouter that lays out these custom components, but to place them correctly, I have to know the custom componets width, height. They are created dynamically. After all of them created (creationCompleted event fired for every), i try to laying out them, but width/height property is still 0. I am also tried to add them to a canvas, before the layout process.
how to create custom UIComponent that placed dynamically, and get to know the width and height of it.
With the use of the mx_internal namespace I can set width and height (using the internal $width and $height fields), and it looks like it is working. But not so clean/good solution.
In my Flex application, I've got a component that extends UIComponent where I'm loading images at runtime and try to display them. I've tried lots of different approaches (using beginBitmapFill(), using different containers), but I can't get things to work as I want. The problem seems to be related to the width and height properties of the image, which aren't updated correctly.The idea is:
var sprite:Sprite = new Sprite(); addChild(sprite); var im:Image = new Image();[code].....
The image's width and height doesn't seem to be correct when it's loaded. I get width==0 (and nothing is displayed), but the property $width seems to be correct. How can I assure that width and height of the loaded image is updated?
I have some rectangles inside a movieclip. All movieclips are created by actionscript. I want to limit the size of the movieclip on top right corner when user starts drag.
I just am looking over the CS4/3D methods and am a little bit stumped at this: globalToLocal3D... I am just trying to determine parameters to dynamically resize the width of myMc (once it is pushed back in z dimension - say to 2000) - I am basically using the globalToLocal3D method - yet the compiler is throwing errors - Error #2004: One of the parameters is invalid. here is the code that should be self explanatory (other than the fact that I am doing something wrong)...
I am loading jpgs into an MC. I make sure I wait to run and modification to the MC by confirming the image is loaded first.If I comment out the IF statements within the function "RW_pic_modifications()" and I trace the width and height of the MC AFTER each photo is loaded, I successfully trace the correct W and H.
My issue, however is when I DO RUN IT THROUGH the conditions within the "RW_pic_modifications()" function. Then any modifications to the MC W and H seem to compound and apply it to each iteration of the next MCs.I confirmed that my code and logic is correct. I just dont understand why performing a resize to the MC with one jpg loaded into it is not reset to the NEW JPG loaded into it, after the new JPG is loaded.
NOTE - I have an MC that stops on a frame until all the code here is executed. Once complete, then this MC plays to allow the pic to stay on screen for a given amount of time THEN it calls on the RW_Pauser() function.I am way over deadline.
I am trying to load 1280 x 720 frame size swf's into 1004 x 768 frame size files. Can I dynamically reset the stage width to 1004 and height accordingly in proportion. Have tried mc._width and it doesn't work.
I have placed 3 movieclips named mcParent, mcChild1, mcChild2 and 1 textbox in flash. child are childrens of parent movie clip. child1 and child2 both are of sizes 300 whereas parent movieclip is 600px, textbox is placed inside child2 movie clip .
I have made the flash to auto resize according to the screen area. Everything works well, but after resize it resizes parent and all childrens and textbox which is correct. The problem is with the correct placement of textbox on mcChild2. I have seen that after resize, mcParent width and scalex both changes but the child clips doesn't changed its sizes even they are stretched but there sizes are not updated due to which I am unable to get the exact location of where to place the textbox.
