ActionScript 3.0 :: Dynamically Adding Properties To Class Via Prototype?

Mar 6, 2009

I tried rewriting Senocular's AlignmentProperties that alter the prototype of a MovieClip for AS1 and AS2 in AS3... (Basically it adds a top, left, bottom, right, centerY, centerX property to all MovieClips so you can align them regardless of their registration point)Now, I know you (senocular) say prototypes are not typically used anymore for AS3 but they are still there in case you need them. I think this utility could be pretty useful. What are your thoughts on how a property could be dynamically added to a class in AS3?[URL]trace(my_mc.top);// traces the top of a movie clip regardless of the registrationmy_mc.top=0; //aligns the top of a movieclip to 0 regardless of the registrationBut ran into a snag adding properties to a class via prototype.Here is my class...

ActionScript 2.0 :: Set Properties - Get Properties - Change An Mc Name Dynamically?

Sep 14, 2005

Just been playing around with the tutorials, on the Set properties/Get properties. Everything is all cool, except the "instance name" aspect. I dnt really understand that too well. Is it possible to change an Mc Name dynamically? If you look at my FLA when you hit the top left red button you will get a trace of the mcName as "square". Now if you input a new mc Name on the right hand side, you will see it change on the left hand side. But i want to know why it doesnt remain as the new mc Name, it still goes back to square.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Dynamically Adding Random MC's In An Array And Removing Them Dynamically Again

Oct 27, 2011

I have a game where i add some cartoonish ants, that when they are clicked, they need to be removed from stage. There are 4 differend kinds of ants, so im doing a Math.random for picking which one to add. (ant 1+2+3 have 50% chance to spawn and 4th 50%)

Code:
rnd_nbr = (Math.random() * 5)+1;

I have a timer doing 10 tick, and i reset the timer to make neverending. Then i have a math random and if sentences adding mc' to the stage with movement from Tweener, and event listeners for clicks. But i cant figure out how to remove them when clicked. I have done alot of failed tries right inside the click_candy_anty function. I've left them commented out.

Code:
import caurina.transitions.Tweener;
var ant_index:Array = new Array(10);//index for ants
var ant_number:int;

ActionScript 3.0 :: Accessing Properties Of A Member Of A Class From Within The Class?

Jun 9, 2011

I have a class, call it MyClass, and there are several variables that I need to be able to access each instance of from within the class.So for instance, I need the object myObject1, a member of MyClass, to store the variable myNumber.From the main timeline, if I trace myObject1.myNumber, I get whatever number I've stored.

However, I need to check the numbers against another parameter, so I need to be able to test if myObject.myNumber == myOtherNumber. But from within the class, if I trace this.myNumber or myNumber I get null.What is the proper syntax for accessing a variable within a class?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Class And Base Class In Properties Panel?

Jul 6, 2011

I have an mc called sunny. In the properties panel I export her for actionscript. I put Sunny in the main class and Drag in the base class. The reason for this is that I want her to be draggable. I can't use Drag in the main class as another object is using that name. The Drag.as has the drag functionality. Why can't I drag her. I already have a solution - I wrote a specific class for her and extended the Drag class. However, if I have 10 mcs I'm not going to write specific classes for all of them. Summing up: Using the base class Drag in properties panel - why isn't she draggable?

Actionscript 3 :: Adding Boolean Properties To Non - Dynamic Objects?

Sep 25, 2010

i'm currently using a dictionary to associate a boolean to my (non-dynamic) sprites, but i would like to know if there is a smarter way of doing this? i could just use MovieClips to assign my properties instead of Sprites since MovieClips are dynamic, but i will not be using any of the MovieClip properties or functions so it comes down to a best practice issue. basically i want to create a state boolean property on my sprites - they are either on or off so my boolean variable is called isOn.

Actionscript 2.0 :: Adding Properties And Event Listeners To Dynamic Movieclips?

Dec 8, 2009

I have done this same thing in ActionScript 3, but am not familiar with ActionScript 2, which I am forced to use for this project. I am loading products into a SWF via XML and attempting to add a click event to each dynamically-created movieclip. Simply tracing the text from a node in XML will do for now. I'd like to assign a property called "desc" or "description" to each movieclip and have it trace that property's value when clicked. Here is the relevant portion of my code as it stands:

Code: Select allvar iXML:XML = new XML();
iXML.ignoreWhite = true;
iXML.onLoad = init;
iXML.load("http://localhost:8888/products.php?p=Shortboards");

ActionScript 2.0 :: Getting Movie Properties Dynamically?

Sep 3, 2003

Currently I have a stage.swf (the parent) which loads child movies "inside itself" into an area called external.

Currently, for each of these movies I have to set properties in stage such as:

Movie Name,
Movie Title,
Length (how many frames)

Now, the annoying part of this is the length. If at any point I decide I want to add or remove a scene from a child, I have to reset the relevant "length" variable on stage.

what I really want to know is, is there a way that when each of the child movies load, stage can find out dynamically how many frames they have?

I can create a Movie Class to have all these variable declarations in one place, but that doesn't really solve the problem I have. I'd still have to manually go through and change variables ad hoc....

I have a custom property called Player (like a basketball player) that has properties for points per game (ppg), rebounds per game (rpg), etc.I'm designing a piece where users can get averages and compare players across many different categories.

I have a String variable "stat" that tracks which property they want to compare. I can use "stat" in a sorton function, but need to use it to access the object property. So when the user chooses "ppg" or "rpg" i can access Player.ppg and Player.rpg by using the stat variable. Player.stat doesn't work.

ActionScript 3.0 :: XML Data To Object Properties Dynamically

Feb 19, 2009

When working with XML I find it best to bring in the XML document and then add the data to new objects so they can be easily referenced later. Previously I have done this by hard-coding the node names when I parse the XML and add the appropriate data to a property in my new custom object, allowing me to state what type of data it is, array, string, etc. I would really like a way to do this dynamically, so when I parse the XML it detects whether the node has children and makes an array, etc. Something was done by XML2Object in AS2.
