ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash Calling A MouseEvent Function Without A Mouse Event?
Sep 16, 2010
in actionscript 2.0, one could call a mouseEvent function without actually having that event. For instance:
[Code]...
In this example, of course, rollOutHandler only does one thing, but this function could contain lots and lots of code, and I would not want to repeat all of it again inside the clickHandler function.
I hv make 4 movieclips and i wanna add mouse event but it is showing error on MouseEvent function, and the error is. 1046: Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: MouseEvent.
I want to run it when the user mouses over a hidden button.
Code: var container:MovieClip = new MovieClip(); addChild(container); root.transform.perspectiveProjection.fieldOfView = 120;
[Code]....
You can see I have a MC called "btn" but the code only runs once when the btn MC is moused over. I'd like to call the addstar function continously while the btn is being moused over...
I have several stage event handlers to enable mouseovers over several dynamically generated moviecilps on the stage that then change their alpha to indicate the mouse is over that particular mc... fairly trivial (mcOver handler). Additionally, I also want to know what MC is clicked, so I update a public variable (public var activemc:Number) with the ID of the dynamic movieclip when the mouse is over it (using a hitTest to check, which is why the EventListener is added to stage and not to the MC), which is checked in the mcClicked handler:This is in the constructor:
However, the mouseover behaviour (alpha 0 when over, alpha 1 when out) stops working as soon as I click on any movieclip on the stage, and the mcClicked ID checking (below) stops working completely. I don't know if this is to do with focus:
private function mcClicked(event:MouseEvent):void { myTextField.text = String(activemc); // activemc is a public var:Number with the movieclip //ID }
I then tried adding the event handler for the stage mouse_move again and this gets the mouseover working again but only for 1 more click, after which it stops again:
private function mcClicked(event:MouseEvent):void { myTextField.text = String(activemc); // activemc is a public var:Number with the movieclip //ID stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_MOVE, mcOver);
i've created a bitmap with data and placed it into a sprite so to receive mouse events. however, i'm struggling with reading the BitmapData within the sprite.
I am writing a program that needs to go to a random frame after clicking a button. However, the program also needs to start on a random frame. When I call the function at the start of the program it gives me an 1120: Access of undefined property event error. The function is originally written as followed:
function randomMatchedTrial(event:MouseEvent) { ... lots of code that probably doesnt matter, but let me know if it does... }
the program starts by calling the function as followed:
randomMatchedTrial(event)
Can event handler functions be called outside of the event listeners they are handling?
I've got an image gallery, that when the the image is clicked, it opens 2 images side by side like a magazine. Once the 2 images are loaded and visible, it makes visible 2 movieclips on each side to let you go to either the previous/next 2 images. Here's my code, I made bold the code that specifically relates to my problem. What I'm trying to do is when the button is clicked it either increases or decreases the imgCount by 2, and reloads the new images, but since the function I'm trying to initiate is triggered by a mouse event I don't know how to trigger it when the other function is triggered.
var imgCount:int = 1; var imgLoader:Loader; var lLoader:Loader;
I have a MOUSE_DOWN handler that creates a CLICK event listener on a child object. Naturally, as soon as you release the mouse button, if you happen to be over the child object, the CLICK event fires.I was disappointed to discover that event.stopImmediatePropagation doesn't interrupt the CLICK event from registering the MOUSE_DOWN as part of its detection cycle. It makes sense that it doesn't but still... disappointing.A MouseEvent.CLICK consists of detecting a MOUSE_DOWN on the object and then if it's followed by a MOUSE_UP without leaving the object, he event fires. I had hoped that by cancelling the MOUSE_DOWN event, it would clear that out of the CLICK buffer, but no such potatoes, alas.This could all be handled with a flag and a couple more MOUSE_UP and MOUSE_DOWN handlers, but dang, smacks of effort
I have a flash app loaded in an iframe. User mouses down in flash and goes outside of stage. When user goes outside of stage, is there a way to release the mouse capture from flash so that parent receives further mouse events and not the flash app?
In Firefox and Chrome, parent doesn't receive events until the user mouses up
In IE, parent receives event when the user goes outside of stage.
Does anyone know how to call a function setup to accept an event argument without triggering it through the event?
Example... I have a button with a CLICK event. When you click on the button, the associated function is executed. Now say I want to call that function from within another function. Is there a way to "send" the event information manually?
Right now I have the CLICK function simply call another function that would then be available to be called from any other location. Below is a code example of what I am trying to accomplish.
Code: Select allbutton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, doButtonClick); function doButtonClick(e:MouseEvent):void {
I just started a course that does a little flash. To teach us they have us build a brick breaker game. I have come to a part were I have to remove all the Listener that were created for the game. Each level is a movie clip and when the level is over the level instance is removed from the child. From what I understand when the level is removed the Event.REMOVED_FROM_STAGE becomes true and the function attached should be called however it is not. Here is the code of the function that sets the listener and the function to be called:
I have a question about making a function for two different kinds of event. It's not critical but I would like to reduce my lines of code and just be more efficient. Basically I have a button on the stage called "Enter". I also want the user to have the option of hitting the enter button. I don't have a problem making these two separate handlers for these events (i.e. one handler for the KeyboardEvent and one handler for the MouseEvent):
I have a situation where I'm calling a function with an event listener attached to a button, which in turn calls a function, which does a number things including calling a second function which resides in a child swf.
Just as an example: Code: myBtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, firstFunction); function firstFunction(e:MouseEvent):void{ //I call another function in here (among other things) externalSwf.stopTimer(); }
"StopTimer" resides in an external swf which for our purposes is called externalSwf and it resets a running timer. Code: function stopTimer():void{ myTimer.reset(); }
I'm getting argument mismatch errors, which often have to do with the Event Objects not matching. The event object for firstFunction is a mouse event triggered by a click so I put in e:MouseEvent...what I don't clearly understand is, what type of object event is dispatched when I call the function stopTimer from inside the function firstFunction?
I was trying to load an external SWF (that contains the below code in its document class) with the Loader class but i keep on receiving Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. So i tried to use the event listener Event.ADDED in MyDocumentClass constructor of the external SWF to let the document class be part of the display list before i invoke createRandomGraph. But when i place createRandomGraph( ) inside onStageReady, The compilation process hangs. When i leave the createRandomGraph( ) inside the constructor, it works perfectly as stand alone but will produce Error 1009 if loaded within the loader SWF
public function MyDocumentClass( ) { this.addEventListener(Event.ADDED, onStageReady);
so today my question is how can we have 1 function triggered by both a Timer event and a Mouse event? 'm trying to avoid having to re-write/re-name a function just because I also have a Mouse event that triggers it and not just a Timer event.
Issue:
I have a addThis bubble fade in with icons on a button rollover, the addThis bubble will fade out after the timer is finished, but I also have a close button in that bubble which needs to use the same function that the timer uses. (want to avoid writing 2 exactly alike functions)
I'm hoping this there is an easy workaround for this like event:null or something.[code]./...
I have 2 overlapping movieclips on the stage. Both are instances of the same movieclip, but with different names. One bigger then the other, due to a magnifying effect. (I have tried to out-rule that code by the way, so its not that). The intention is to make both movieclips play when the mouse is over the stage and then stop as the mouse leaves the area. Seems simple and I have done that alot of times with other animations.
i have a password game where users need to select the correct 3 buttons to progress to the next stage. The 3 buttons that need to be selected are: pwd_btn1, pwd_btn2,pwd_btn3. After, the user must click on "submit_btn" to verify if they have chosen the correct buttons. So far everything works fine. So what i would like to happen is that once the 3 buttons are selected, and before the submit_btn is clicked, a function is triggered that will apply a glow effect to the submit_btn, indicating to the user to click on it.[code]
I have inserted two keyframes in the timeline, then i included scripts on each keyframe. The script in first keyframe is following:
stop();var mc:MovieClip = new MovieClip();mc.graphics.beginFill(0xFF0000);mc.graphics.drawRect(0,0,300,20);mc.graphics.endFill();addChild(mc);[code]....
The error which was reported while compiling is defined as follows: When i click on the movieclip 'mc' created in the first frame, an error like "ArgumentError: Error #1063: Argument count mismatch on gallery_fla::MainTimeline/clicked(). Expected 0, got 1." is showing. Actually i need to go to the second frame while clicking on the movieclip on first keyframe.
I am working with code where the variable "k" is a counter. I stripped out the extraneous stuff from the code below - so essentially when the function onExamPlusClick is called, the counter "k" and the minutes of an activity in an array both increment (as well as other things not shown). I'd like to return "k" as well as "activity[0].minutes" to the main program. Since the function is a MouseEvent, I'm unable to change "void" to "number"... and not sure how to return (pass) those variables back to the ain program.
I've decided to add keyboard capabilities to my program. All my functions I have written require a mouse event to be passed to them. I'm just wondering if there is a better way to run these mouse event functions rather than to take out the contents of these functions and create a new function that is called within a mouse event function OR a keyboard event function. What I mean is I am starting to change the mouse event functions I have to only have one line inside of them which will run a separate function. This same separate function I will run using a keyboard input as well.
