ActionScript 3.0 :: Which Mouse Event Called A Function
Oct 13, 2009Is there anyway of checking which mouse event called a function, without creating another function to handle each buttons event?

View 2 RepliesSo, I'm trying to load resources, add them to a dictionary, and have a drawing method search through that dictionary and draw based on certain predicates. I have a function that iterates through an Vector of Strings, calling on an instance of Loader to load them instantiated as a URLRequest.
private function loadImages(urls:Vector.<String>):void
{
var loader:Loader = new Loader();
[Code].....
So the issue is: Only the first images in my Vector are drawing. Upon further inspection, I found that the completeHandler was only being called once (I put a trace in the complete handler to check). However, the Loader is invoking load everytime the loop iterates. I tried instantiating separate loaders for each resource, just to see if it would work, but I had no luck with that. Do I need to make separate loaders and event handlers? Or am I just not using Loader correctly?
I need to fire and event when a function is called ...... And catch that event somewhere else.How can I do this?
View 4 Repliesi am trying to return an XML object, but having issues. The object is only created via an Event.complete function. I need to return the XML created from my loadXML function via my grabXMLfromFile function.
Code:
function grabXMLFromFile(attrPathToXML:String):XML {
var fileUrl:String = attrPathToXML;
var myUrlRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest(fileUrl);
[Code].....
Is there an event that IU can assign a function that is called when an swf closes?
View 5 RepliesI have a question about making a function for two different kinds of event. It's not critical but I would like to reduce my lines of code and just be more efficient. Basically I have a button on the stage called "Enter". I also want the user to have the option of hitting the enter button. I don't have a problem making these two separate handlers for these events (i.e. one handler for the KeyboardEvent and one handler for the MouseEvent):
[Code]...
so today my question is how can we have 1 function triggered by both a Timer event and a Mouse event? 'm trying to avoid having to re-write/re-name a function just because I also have a Mouse event that triggers it and not just a Timer event.
Issue:
I have a addThis bubble fade in with icons on a button rollover, the addThis bubble will fade out after the timer is finished, but I also have a close button in that bubble which needs to use the same function that the timer uses. (want to avoid writing 2 exactly alike functions)
I'm hoping this there is an easy workaround for this like event:null or something.[code]./...
i have a password game where users need to select the correct 3 buttons to progress to the next stage. The 3 buttons that need to be selected are: pwd_btn1, pwd_btn2,pwd_btn3. After, the user must click on "submit_btn" to verify if they have chosen the correct buttons. So far everything works fine. So what i would like to happen is that once the 3 buttons are selected, and before the submit_btn is clicked, a function is triggered that will apply a glow effect to the submit_btn, indicating to the user to click on it.[code]
View 1 RepliesI have inserted two keyframes in the timeline, then i included scripts on each keyframe. The script in first keyframe is following:
stop();var mc:MovieClip = new MovieClip();mc.graphics.beginFill(0xFF0000);mc.graphics.drawRect(0,0,300,20);mc.graphics.endFill();addChild(mc);[code]....
The error which was reported while compiling is defined as follows: When i click on the movieclip 'mc' created in the first frame, an error like "ArgumentError: Error #1063: Argument count mismatch on gallery_fla::MainTimeline/clicked(). Expected 0, got 1." is showing. Actually i need to go to the second frame while clicking on the movieclip on first keyframe.
I have a mouse event listener that calls a function...how do I parse variables through the function? [code]
View 9 RepliesI am working with code where the variable "k" is a counter. I stripped out the extraneous stuff from the code below - so essentially when the function onExamPlusClick is called, the counter "k" and the minutes of an activity in an array both increment (as well as other things not shown). I'd like to return "k" as well as "activity[0].minutes" to the main program. Since the function is a MouseEvent, I'm unable to change "void" to "number"... and not sure how to return (pass) those variables back to the ain program.
View 3 RepliesI've decided to add keyboard capabilities to my program. All my functions I have written require a mouse event to be passed to them. I'm just wondering if there is a better way to run these mouse event functions rather than to take out the contents of these functions and create a new function that is called within a mouse event function OR a keyboard event function. What I mean is I am starting to change the mouse event functions I have to only have one line inside of them which will run a separate function. This same separate function I will run using a keyboard input as well.

btn1.onRollOut = function(){
this. gotoAndPlay("out");

How to create a mouse over event that call a function after 3 second?
I'm trying to create a function where when a mouse go over a sprite, it will count 3 second and call upon another new sprite, when mouse out before 3 second, the new sprite will not be called, how can i do this?
i am trying to activate a function within a class on a mouse rollover -this is AS2 in CS3 and i have the following in my Class.as:
[Code]....
the global.pane_array is specified in my FLA Obviously i would like to see the trace from the array, but nada.... if i put the movePanes() outside the rollover event, it works fine... however this does not achieve my goals
also if i declare the function as a global function from within my FLA, and then call it on the rollover e.g. _global.movePanes() - it works!

I rune the following code from TestClass:
ActionScript Code:
handler.loadFromFile("test5.txt");
dataset.generateComplete();[code]....
However, why does dataset.generateComplete(); get called before onFileLoaded(event:Event)?I can only assume that this is the case, as var pointList:Array = myHandler.getPointList(); returns Null, and when I run some tests with trace statements,I can see that onFileLoaded (event:Event) is seemingly called after generateComplete() Is the URLLoader process running in parallel to the rest of the application?
I hv make 4 movieclips and i wanna add mouse event but it is showing error on MouseEvent function, and the error is. 1046: Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: MouseEvent.

I am trying to essentially pass a string as a function name into an event listener, but I am not sure how to approach this. Is there a way to convert a string into a function?
Here is some code I have for me to show you what I am doing.
package{
//some import statements
public class changes extends MovieClip{
[Code]....
in actionscript 2.0, one could call a mouseEvent function without actually having that event. For instance:
[Code]...
In this example, of course, rollOutHandler only does one thing, but this function could contain lots and lots of code, and I would not want to repeat all of it again inside the clickHandler function.
I would like to know if it is possible to trigger a jquery function to hide something after a Mouse event in flash.
I want this to run when something is clicked in flash:
$("#googframe").click(function() {
$("#googframe").hide();
});
i know how to monitor a click in AS3 but how do i get it to trigger this.
Use Flash CS5 (and AIR, though this does not seem like it would be AIR related) in Win XP 64 I have a MovieClip symbol in my library with the identifier 'Puzzle10Piece10' with the following actionscript attached to frame 1 of the only layer with the following actionscript:
[Code]...
This runs contrary to my understanding of the pre-compiler and code execution order. In my way of thinking, any reference creation and related memory allocation is made when the object is instantiated, and indeed that allocation, unlike C depends not on code order (declaration before use), though this is an order that would satisfy even the C pre-compiler. If I understand the Flash compiler at all, it's not even a question of 'code order'... the symbol is pre-compiled such that for it to exist... for it to be instantiated, the variable would exist before the function would even be 'available' to be called internally or externally. Is my thinking way off, or is this a bug?
I have an AS3 program that calls a function multiple times. The function must return multiple variables, so I created a class for the function to declare an object containing all of these variables. For example, here's my class:
package
{
public class PER
{
[Code].....
Let's say the calling program calls the function, which returns the variables into data_set1 (where data_set1 depends on input variables arg1, arg2, arg3) using:
var data_set1:PER = function_name(arg1, arg2, arg3);
The calling program does some stuff, then calls the function again, but returns the variables into a new variable name, data_set2:
var data_set2:PER = function_name(arg4, arg5, arg6);
My intention is that data_set1 and data_set2 are different (e.g. not linked together).
My question is, given that arrays are passed by reference, will data_set1 be modified to agree with data_set2 upon the 2nd function call? Why or why not?
I'm using an AMF service that was built by someone else. Basically what happens is that some info is passed to the AMF service and it returns true or false.I want to be able to pass in various info to the a function that calls the AMF service(submitTracking) and then get the true or false value returned in onResultSubmit to be passed back to submitTracking.
var screen:String;
var buttonnumber:String;
function submitTracking(screen:String, buttonnumber:String) {

var thereControl:SoundChannel = new SoundChannel();

I am new to AS3 and to writing classes, but have the following in my class to change the alpha of my button. How do I reference my button in btnOverAction, so I can set its alpha? Is there a way to reference the object the event was called on? I am calling the method to set up multiple buttons like this:[code]
View 3 RepliesI am sending an event when an sql query returns no matches so that I can continue with the addition to the database.. It seems like actionscript is requiring that I attach the listener to something, but I don't really have any variables that seem like logical candidates at the point where I am in my code. I just want to listen for the isNewRecord event to be called so that I can then run the insert query; right now it's saying call to possibly undefined method for addEventListerner and for dispatchEvent.
public function addBG(BG:Number, datetime:String, batch:Boolean = false):void{
checkRecord('Gb', datetime, matchRecord);
addEventListener("isNewRecord", recordExists);
function recordExists(){

I am trying to learn JavaScript and I am wondering whether JavaScript has a event listener just like ActionScript's ENTER_FRAME. Basically, I want this event listener to listen "all the time" not just wait for any particular instance (mouse click, keyboard event) of event.
View 3 RepliesI'm trying to call an event I've created in another component. I've added trace() into my methods so I can see what's being called. Everything except for the event listener (myEvent) is being called.
// TestApp.mxml (application)

I have a base class for buttons which handles button basics like mouse listeners etc.Now I'm trying to extend it to also have the possibility to store an event (yes event, not event type) that is supposed to be dispatched on click.So I have my CustomEvent (extending Event) that I pass into the base class and store it with type Event.Outside, in the event listener I have an event argument typed as CustomEvent.First time I click it works fine and event is CustomEvent traces true in the event handler.But the second time I click, event is CustomEvent traces false and I get the "type coercion failed" error (cannot convert Event to CustomEvent):
Code: TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert flash.events::Event@29d3b7e1 to com.package.events.CustomEvent.
at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEventFunction()
at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEvent()
at com.package.display.buttons::ButtonBase/onClick()
If I trace event is CustomEvent in the base class before the event is dispatched it always traces true.So it seems something happens to the event in the dispatcher functions, but what boggles me is that the base class always sees the event as CustomEvent while the event listener thinks it is CustomEvent first time only.
