ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash - How To Mark Frames With Labels On Same Timeline

I am working on a game and would like to put code for different levels on the same timeline layer, mark the frames with labels (level1, level2...) and add different action script to it. Can this be done, and are there some limits. It is a small tetris like game, and each code would be mainly adding children to a stage, from an array and checking for a collision with objects added on a different layer on the same frame as the label. Also it would change score and so on.

I'm trying to build a menu system which populates itself by parsing labels from the Flash timeline. As well I have a requirement to keep this all within one FLA file... so no classes or XML files. After 2 days I'm pretty close here, but have a problem with mouse_out's. I'd like to be able to move my cursor up and down the popped-up sub menu, but as soon as my cursor leaves the first sub button it triggers the mouse_out function.
I want the mouse_out to trigger only when the cursor leaves the entire sub-menu, not it's children. I believe this is a traditional problem and there's solutions but after 1.5 days of tuts and threads I haven't been able to manage it. I think I may just have to tweak how I deal with the submenu array.

I have built a couple of sites in Flash, however, I have a problem with a current site I'm working on. My client wants various photos to fade out in a "checkerboard" fashion, which I am doing via its own movie clip and adding in the appropriate area on the main timeline. However, when I add a blank keyframe on the following page to add a new movie clip (with the next set of pictures, the timeline starts playing through the entire website, not recognizing stop actions or frame labels.

I'm trying to create a function that looks at two Frame Labels and calculates the number of frames between them. This is what I've got so far:

The problem I'm having is that you don't seem to be able to find a FrameLabel within a MovieClip in the simple sort of way that I've used above (I know the way I specify here won't work). It does seem, though, like there should be SOME way of finding a FrameLabel within a MovieClip.

I have imported a few animated GIF's in flash. Each has a whole lot of frames. I am running the FPS at 35, and it obviously means that the GIF frames will speed up/slow down depending on how fast the FPS is. That is great, but is there a nice little trick to spread the frames out, without having to edit the MC and highlight a bunch of frames, and spread them out? I also attached a screenshot of me highlighting all the frames, preparing to move them over by one to spread out the frames. The first few frames are spread out already as you can see

Basically the problem is that the flash player skips my frames for some reason!Problem: calling gotoAndPlay("label"), and once flash gets to that label, it does play, but it does not reach the trace action at the end of the timeline, although it reaches the end of the timeline and loops to the beginning as far as the visible artwork is concerned. There is no stop actions involved in between the gotoAndPlay and the trace action.If I reproduce this in a simpler environment I do not get the error. In the file I am using a few of my own simple external classes, and the as2 EventDispatcher, and caurina Tweener.

So I am switching everything over to AS3 from AS2 (finally) and I am stuck with the selected state (when using ROLL_OVER and ROLL_OUT).I did a search and have found a ton of examples for using the timeline and labels to tween the menu states... however I haven't been able to find anything in regards to using a tween engine. I can currently tween the selected state by just doing:

how many of you use scenes to get your projects done. I've been switching to a different scene for every new angle (I'm making a flash movie, drawing somewhat 3D perspective, and storyboarding it out like a movie.) I find it makes it easier to organize the timeline, and not take up as many frames per timeline. Are there any downfalls to this method? Because I'm early on in the production, and if there's going to be any problems down the road I'd like to know before I get too involved.

I have been tasked with creating a "PowerPoint-style" presentation using Flash CS4 and I am just learning AS3. I would just use a PPT to Flash conversion utility but they want more elaborate text and image effects and better embedded video handling. Also, it seems like using the Flash Slide presentation option in Flash CS4 limits the kind of effects I can do. How to navigate the presentation sequentially (back and forth) using the arrow keys to jump to the next or previous frame label.

Fail to control my timeline with the gesture swipe; I have tried but without any success. ive created frame labels at every 20 frame as a navigation points and some motion tween between each 20 frames.

I'm confused as to how Flash CS5 treats symbol instances across different frames in a given layer; If I add an object to a layer, and then add a keyframe to the existing frame set, are there now two instances of the object, one for each frame? When I change the color of the instance in the first key frame, the second keyframes instance stays the same. Is there anyway to edit across all frames? Paste across all frames?

I created a menu of invisible movieclips (from a library item with the class name Invis) with buttonmode set to true so that I can have them send the playhead to different labels on the main timeline. I could use some help with determining which button is clicked and then placing code that executes depending on which button is clicked.
Here is what I have so far on frame 1 of my timeline:
This works - I get [object Invis]0,or [object Invis]1...etc in my output //window depending on which one I clicked. Just not sure what to do next

how to build a timeline scrubber that can scrub more than one scene.
1. Scene 1 had 20 frames
2. Scene 2 had 20 frames
3. On scene 1 I put the slider that scrub the timeline. The totalFrames; sum all the frame from all the scene.
4. When i scrub the slider to frame 21 error occurred saying that the slider couldn't be found. So i paste the slider in scene 2.
So how to continue scrub on scene 2? How to make a slider that can scrub all scene and move along showing the current frames?

im trying to navigate through a movie clip and stop at frame labels using individual buttons to call to individual labels while being able to see the on the way to the frame(for a blurred effect).my goal is to jump from point A to point F to point Z and see all the frames in between and visa versa.

I have a problem when making flash applications with more than one frame that has symbols placed on it in that I can't declare all of the event listeners for the objects at the same time and I have found that even if I put them all on the first frame, add the event listeners, then click through to the next frame then the buttons won't work on that frame.
Does anyone have any idea how I could solve this? I did consider myself a fairly competent AS3 programmer until I realised I had no idea how to handle this sort of thing. Solved: I initialised the clips from my external class and then addChild'd and removeChild'd them as I needed to and placed their x and y on addChilding.

I'm trying to do is use the "page up" button to navigate to different labels on the timeline. The problem is that the labels are in different scenes (for example label_5 is in Scene 3). So each time I go to a label outside the scene, I get an error message.

I am using a php mp3 handler script that I use as a parameter,but it seems to mess everything up just because there is a question mark after .php for my get variables. If I remove the question mark (mp3_handler.php?), the player appears, but with the question mark, it shows up as a text box. The first player works fine. The second just appears as a textbox in IE.The second however works in every other browser!!!
UPDATE: IT SEEMS TO BE THE second QUESTION MARK, but I do not see a way around this.. Oddly enough, the first question mark does not make a difference

I have an XML file which contains some texts, let's say testimonials or something like that. It contains characters like commas, inverted commas, question marks, periods etc. But it does have exclamation marks too.. I think exclamation mark is an invalid character in XML. Anyway, how to display this exclamation mark in dynamic text in AS3? The XML is modifying by a third person. So it will be difficult if we say type this pattern to replace it for exclamation mark....

I am looking for an actionscript that will go to a certain frame in the timeline, play several frames and then jump to another frame in the timeline. Basically, I want to use this on several different buttons that use the same animation sequence to get to another part of the timeline.
The following is a scenario, but not script:
Buttons A and B are on Frame 1. Animation is on Frames 2-20:
When Button A is pressed, go to Frame 2. Play Frames 2-20, then go to Frame 21.
When Button B is pressed, go to Frame 2. Play Frames 2-20, then go to Frame 22.
I am currently doing this in a different way.
Buttons A and B are on Frame 1. Animations for Buttons A and B are the same, but are located on different frames. Animations for Button A would be on Frames 2-20. Animations for Button B would be on Frames 21-39. So...
When Button A is pressed, go to Frame 2. Play Frames 2-20 and stop on Frame 20.
When Button B is pressed, go to Frame 21. Play frames 21-39 and stop on Frame 39.
Do I have to create this extra timeline? Can I just put the animation in a separate movie? How can I play the movie and then connect each button to different parts of the timeline after the movie ends?

I'm using Flash CS4 and I have to trim a .fla file down. I can delete the end frames no problem, but the first 600 frames that I have to remove are proving to be a nightmare. When I use the select>right-click>delete method it doesn't remove these frames, instead it removes the corresponding amount of frames from the end.

I have a bunch of movieclips in my library. Each one contains it's own class and functions etc.I put each of these movieclips on diffrent frames in my timeline.My question was, if I am going to put these movieclips, on 2 or 3 frames on my timeline what will be the impact on speed of application (in mobile afcourse).For example MovieClip2 will be put on frames 2,3 and 6.It has 300 lines of code. Is the impact noticable ?
