Apr 15, 2012I'm on planning/modeling phase to develop a remote desktop sharing solution, which must be web browser based. In other words: an user will be able to see and interact with someone's remote desktop using his web-browser.Everything the user who wants to share his desktop will need, besides his browser, is installing an add-in, which he's going to be prompted about when necessary. The add-in is required since (afaik) no browser technology allows desktop control from an app running within the browser alone. The add-in installation process must be as simple and transparent as possible to the user (similar to AdobeConnectNow, in case anyone's acquainted with it).The user can share his desktop with lots of people at the same time, but concede desktop control to only one of them at a time(makes no sense being otherwise).
Project requirements:All technology employed must be open-source license compatible.Both front ends are going to be in flash (browser)Must work on Linux, Windows XP(and later) and MacOSX.Must work at least with IE7(and later) and Firefox3.0(and later).At the very least, once the sharer's stream hits the server from where it'll be broadcast, hereon it must be broadcasted in flv (so I'm thinking whether to do the encoding at the client's machine (the one sharing the desktop) or send it in some other format to the server and encode it there).Performance and scalability are important: It must be able to handle hundreds of dozens of users(one desktop sharer, the rest viewers)We'll definitely be using red5.My doubts concern mostly implementing the desktop publisher side (add-in and streamer):
1) Are you aware of other projects that I could look into for ideas? (I'm aware of bigbluebutton.org and code.URL...)
2) Should I base myself on VNC ?
3) Bearing in mind the need to have it working cross-platform, what language should I go with? (My team is very used with java and I have some knowledge of C/C++, but anything goes really).
Disable Resizing Of Flash Scene In Flash Desktop Player?
Aug 19, 2011I am using Flash CS5 and when I exprt my file to swf I notied that after exporting and playing it in Flash player (on my desktop) I can change the size of the window and the scene itself eventthough I have set the width and height dimension to e.g. 468x60.
So, the bad thing is that if I ahve some objects that are moving from this area and in banner I do not see them in flash player I can see all which is not good.
Is there a setting in export option to disable this behavior or some actionscript, so my client will not be able see the "mess-behind-the-scenes" :)?
I can probably remove some objects using actionscript, however if I have looping background image it is necessary to be bigger than 468px In my case 3x.
Flash :: Pro CS 5.5 Runtime Sharing Bug - Fonts?
Sep 19, 2011I have an issue with an apparent bug in Flash Pro CS5.5. I have recently upgraded to CS5.5 Master Collection from my previous version of 4.0. The bug is when I create a fonts FLA file with fonts embedded in it that I want to use throughout an entire site. I correctly configure those fonts as export for runtime sharing.
In any other FLAs in which I wish to use the shared fonts, I either (a) drag the assets from one library to the other, or (b) add them to the new fla and configure them as import for runtime sharing (both of which achieve the same result).

Feb 17, 2010I'm using Flash 8, and I hope I word this correctly.How would I set it up so that I can share a single piece of art across multiple files?My goal is to arrange it so that I can edit the art in the original file and automatically update the art in all files linked to it when published?For example, I'm working on a character animation where the character appears in many episodes and the episodes are split into many .fla files.If I needed to change the appearance of the character in all of the episodes which are spread across many .fla files, I would I have to do it manually?

Aug 28, 2011I want to be able to share videos from my Wordpress site to Facebook using different video providers. I was able to use my own video player, but I'm not ready to post videos using my server and I prefer to have users post using a provider like youtube, vimeo, facebook, ect.. Right now my site has those kind of video players. I edit the meta tags several times, this is the one I currently have:

I also tested it using a single youtube video and it worked fine. But since I have other videos beside youtube I can't do it where it just gets a youtube id. Yesterday the posts without videos were showing up, but now when all posts gets share it shows up like if it was a video on my wall, so if clicked it will give an error. I been pulling my hair all week with this and still couldn't get it to work.
when I update my script, it takes so long for facebook to update the change. I have to wait for so long in order to test it again, like if facebook is holding it in cache for too long, is there a way to bypass that?

May 31, 2011I have a project where I use several SWFs and have the fonts outlines stored into a seperate SWF. Within the .fla file's I have checked the Import for runtime sharing with the various font definitions.In the library the linkage part shows for every font the Import: classnamTo get a correct idea how things look within the IDE, I've checked several character ranges within the font properties so the preview renders correctly.In Flash CS5 everything was working correctly; no font outline was included within the SWF. The size report also shows this.When I create the SWF with Flash CS5.5 font outlines of the selected ranges still get embedded into the SWF. The file size of the SWF is much larger and the font outline information shows up in the size report.

Jan 19, 2011My buddy and I are gearing up for a game jam and we're hoping to use Flash to build our project. One possible problem is that he's got a PC laptop, and I've got a MacBook.
What's the status of cross-platform development in Flash? I'd love to be able to drop something into an SVN repo and pull everything down without regard to the OS, but I'm not convinced that will be very smooth. It seems like I can move around ActionScript source and .fla files without too much issue, but Flash Builder projects seem pretty gnarly, e.g. they appear to have references to them outside of the project folder.
Is there an easy way to migrate project data in such a away that we can develop and debug regardless of OS? Maybe version-controlling all the portable content (.as, .fla, raw assets) and the importing into our respective project environments?

A one click solution is what I'm hoping for, but something like dragging an icon off the .swf to the desktop would be okay.

Jul 24, 2011I'm working with Runtime Sharing, and can't get past this issue...In my Import.fla document, I import for Runtime Sharing the movieclip "StarIcon" from Export.swf. It has the class "StarIcon".how to access "StarIcon" via Import.fla's document class. When I try to say

Feb 10, 2012I am trying to work out an approach to developing a desktop application that would play movies, games and various flash material such as flash games and flash flip books. The movies will be in both video format and swf format, and will need to be compressed and encrypted for transmission to users and decompressed/decrypted by our player so as not be viewable by other players. The installer would be platform / OS dependant.
The player / user interface would need to be written in a 'portable' language so it can be cross-complied to different platforms ( Windows, Linux/Android, Mac, Iphone/Ipad, ... ) If this is not possible than atleast it should work on the PC and MAC. The idea here is to ideally maintain one code base so the client will experience the same interface on each platform we support.
My questions are-
What would be the best approach to develop these applications?
Is it possible to acquire public / open source code where much of the work has already been done and then add my code to it?
If open source code is available where could I get it from?
Flash :: Unable To Load On Desktop (works On The Web)?
Aug 18, 2009Experience with Flash: very very little (very) Version: CS4 Operating system: XP Pro. I was given an FLV file to display on the web. I imported the file into flash and exported it as an html file.
The movie worked great online, but then I was asked to save a copy of the movie on a CD to send it to a client - I saved all the files in a folder. I tested it on my computer and I was able to view the movie, but when the client loaded the html page, all they saw was a bar (that has the volume & play buttons) and a green line that scrolls across it. Here's what it looks like
Some people can load the html file and view the movie and others cannot (on their desktop). On some computers I tried updating the flash player (I removed the existing one first), but it still did not work.
As much as I'd like to be, I am not a Flash developer - I just use it to the extent that I must (the nature of my job) Did I provide enough information for someone to be able to tell what the issue is and how to resolve it?

It works fine when the publish settings are set to iOS, but when I switch to publish a "normal" swf I get the error.
Flash :: Why Can't Log A User Out Of Facebook In An AIR Desktop Application
Sep 23, 2011I'm building an AIR desktop app with facebook support using Adobe Flash builder. So far it's working alright, except for one detail, once a user logs in, that session stays open, even if the logout button is pressed. My logout code look like so:

I set APP_ORIGIN to "[URL]". I checked Adobe's documentation and they say: appOrigin:String (default = null) ” (Optional) The site url specified for your app. Required for clearing html window cookie. But I don't know what that means, what is the 'site url specified by my app'? Where do I get it? Sorry if this is a noob question.

Oct 22, 2010Flash Movie that works using Firefox and Safari on my (iMac) desktop, but not after I upload to my website.
I started with an flv video, imported it into an fla document along with a playback skin then published it creating an html file and two swf files. I've checked the html file, and it looks fine. The flv file is only 17MB and I've uploaded all 5 files to my site on:

but all I seem to get is the control skin's "sending data" pole turning.The movie never arrives. I can get much bigger mpeg and wmv movies up on my screen very quickly.
I'm running Snow Leopard on my Mac (OX 10.6.6). I've tried using different videos but nothing seems to work.
