ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash - Random Angle Ranging From Value 1 To Value2?
Jun 26, 2011
I want a random angle ranging from - let's say - 10 to 80 (degrees). I got some code but there seems to be a bug inside of it. It calculates a random number (working) between 10 and 80. But when I paste it into the other variable (astAngle1) it's generating a random value not higher than 56(???)
Code:
var randomNumber:Number = ((Math.random() * (80 - 10) + 1) + 10);
trace(Math.round(randomNumber));
[code]....

Flash Tranformation Matrix via JsFL. I have to write a JsFL script that creates a text on my Flash scene, and rotate it with a random angle. Imagine I want to create and rotate a "Hello World!" at 45 degrees, my code looks like that:
rotateAngle = 45;
//creates my new text at x:0, y:0 coordinates
fl.getDocumentDOM().addNewText({left:0, top:0, right:10, bottom:10});
fl.getDocumentDOM().setTextString('Hello World!');
var mat = fl.getDocumentDOM().selection[0].matrix;
[Code] .....
The problem is : the rotation applied to my text is 58.3 instead of 45. I have to admit that I'm kind of noob with matrix... so I used the "matrix transformation for rotation" here : [URL].

I have a pendulum that swings infinitely. I'd like to set the maximum angle to a random amount to give it a sort of "blown by a random wind" effect. I'm not great at code, so I can't figure out how to randomize "maxAngle" without making the animation jerky. Does anyone have any ideas on how to do this? Here is my code and FLA...

trying to implement a "wheel of fortune"-like activity in AS3.Here is what I have so far: [URL]The script for this spinning mc is super simple:
Code:
var speed:int = 10;
NoPolicy.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, wheelRoll);
function wheelRoll(event:Event):void
[code]....
What I would like to do is have the rotation run for, say, 2 seconds and then slow down and stop at a random angle.

I'm trying to create a loop which generates a single series of sine results ranging from 0 to 1 based on 100 loops ( ie 0 ,0.011 ,0.1111........up to 1 in a single run)The results I want start at 0 and increment in a series up to 1 and then stop. I suppose this would be one half of a sine wave I have tried the following but it goes from 0 to 1 ,1 to 0 , 0 to 1 etc whereas I want a single straight run of 100 values from 0 to 1
I tried :
for(var i:Number=0;i<=100;i++){
trace((0.5*Math.sin(i)) + 0.5);
}
This does not work.

What I've done so far is using your mouse you (click & release) you shoot a ball off in that direction using radians. Now what I'd like to happen is when the ball hits the wall it bounces off in it's reflection angle. Eg. if the ball hits the right-hand-side wall travelling at in a radians of -0.65 it should bounce back in the radians of about -2.5

I'm working on an interactive animation for a university assignment. Here in this scene the user is able to turn a safe dial left and right either using on screen buttons or keyboard keys. The trouble I'm having is trying to write an IF statement to detect the angle of the safe dial so when the dial == an angle of rotation the scene goes on to play the next frame of the animation.
Code:
import flash.events.MouseEvent;
import flash.events.KeyboardEvent;

I have a rotation value in degrees(0-360) and a value for magnitude, ie (1-10 pixels per second).
How to apply this information to determine what to add to an objects x and y values to send the object off in a given direction at a given speed ?

I want a movieclip consisting of a dynamic text box that, from the time it's loaded onto the stage, loads a randomly selected text string from an array, and continues to loop until the clip is removed from the stage. I also want the text strings to appear in the text box for random intervals between 500 and 3000 milliseconds.
While I've found tutorials here and elsewhere on loading one element from an array, usually triggered by a button, I don't know how to combine/alter it with the other elements.So I want this movieclip on the stage randomly flashing phrases from an array, some for a barely perceptible time, and others for a readable time.

I'm using Flash CS4 Pro.In Motion Editor, the way that the blur works, it allows you to blur an object on X and/or Y axis.That means you blur horizontaly or/and verticaly.I would like to make a blur motion at another angle, by example 30 degree.

I have a carousel built and it works fine, but there is an angle on it that I want to get rid of. When the images move along the carousel, I want them to always stay the same on the X axis. Here is the code, I have tried mangling it in every possible combination, but it is outside my AS3 knowledge on how to get the angle changed.
import mx.utils.Delegate;
var numOfItems:Number;
var radiusX:Number = 1150;
var radiusY:Number = 50;
var centerX:Number = Stage.width / 2;
var centerY:Number = Stage.height / 6;
var speed:Number = 0.002;

how to get angle of mouse its very simple.use this Script (copy and past in your file). A sample file which runs only on CS4 is attached.

// Make a line (o-----------------------) and take its left side as center named 'mcArrow'
mcArrow._x = mcArrow._y =200;

I'm at a bit of a coders block, and I'm sure it's quite simple. I tried using the following:Code:((angle-180)%360) + 180But for angles < 180 degrees, it works just fine, but after that it get's a little funny. I know why it's doing that, I'm just looking for a way to fix it.

I need to limit an angle so it fits into a segment. I have drawn and links to a diagram below to better describe what I am after. I am trying to calculate this for a computer program, where I have an angle (slope), and a point (the mouse pointer). The distance does not matter to me, just the angles. If the point is within b1 (green area) then that's fine. But if the point is within b2 or b3 (red or orange) areas, then the angle should snap back to the limit of the green area (along the line s).
The main problem I am having in figuring this out, is snapping the angle to the correct side e.g. If the point is in the red area, then the angle should snap to the angle s on the red side and vice versa. I am also having trouble because s could be any angle, so I am being tripped up because I can't just do something like this:

I know 3D rotation is well documented on SO and many other sites, but despite reading countless explanations I still haven't figured out where I'm going wrong. My background is in art and design, not math and programming, and I'm never really certain if my angle of attack (no pun intended) is the right one. Rather than paste a patchwork of my dismal code, I'm including an image describing my problem. What I'd really like is a step-by-step worded breakdown of how to solve it. Pseudo code is useful, but I will learn more if someone will just aim me in the right direction or point out common pitfalls.
